Cobra commander: got away. Firefly: killed by roadblock. Zartan: killed by storm shadow. Destro: remain in the maximum security prison. Storm shadow: snake eyes and jinx let him go.
These cheeky bastards really went and made "COBRA, RETREAT!" look badass. Cobra Commander powerwalks his way through an active battlefield to his escape helicopter despite being an incredibly conspicuous high-priority target, then doesn't even flinch when the Joes try to shoot him down because he knows they can't stop him.
Honestly, this might be the best version of Cobra Commander. Much better than the show. In the show, he has the demeanor of an angsty teenager, always throwing tantrums. Here, he's calm and collected, and you can really understand why he's considered the most dangerous man alive (which he is supposed to be). What does he do when the Joes ambush him and Storm Shadow betrays him? Does he scream out "retreat"? No. He keeps his cool, despite all the gunfire and chaos, and orders Firefly to retrieve the case, which manages to keep his plan going, if not for Firefly eventually losing the case. You also get the idea that he was very well respected, as even after his imprisonment, MARS still rebranded themselves as Cobra, and saw him as their leader. It's a meaningless and overall easy to miss little quote, but there's that one random soldier who says it's "good to have you back, sir." Despite being mainly a scientist, he still manages to inspire a deep, almost zealous, respect from his forces. Whereas with the show version, it's honestly a wonder he was ever accepted as a leader to begin with. I never quite got the hate for this film. Sure, it wasn't great, but it was just a nice bit of fun for a couple hours. Much better than some of the action films we get these days.
Cobra Commander successes 1. He took over MARS and transformed it into Cobra 2. He owns many corporations and industries 3. Had Zartan take over the U.S. 4. Established Cobra's presence in the U.S. 5. Decimated the Gi Joe and killed Duke 6. Destroy the world's nuclear weapons 7. Establish a strong military presence across the world. I agree with you that many MARS agents are loyal to Cobra Commander and did all the work for him in creating a strong presence for Cobra across the world. Cobra Commander, as the Doctor, gained so much loyalty without Destro knowing is amazing. I think the reason why Cobra Commander abandoned Destro is that he is essentially useless because MARS no longer exists as it became Cobra now. Despite Destro's loss, his family's legacy and anger towards the world are unknowingly inherited by Cobra. It is likely Rex Lewis was tired of the status quo of society and wanted to create a dystopia where the world is in peace under Cobra's rule. What is interesting is that many of the Cobra soldiers are from the U.S. military which shows how much loyalty Cobra gained. It is likely Cobra Commander stopped relying on nanomites. Despite losing, Cobra Commander already won by establishing his Cobra Empire in the shadows of society.
I never really got why people hated this movie. I also didn’t understand why MARS just accepted that Rex/Cobra Commander just usurped control from Destro, Destro wrote their paychecks, and Rex was a mad doctor with delusions of grandeur. I think it may be because Destro’s reputation may have been ruined at that point, so becoming Cobra was a method of self-preservation. If I am wrong, someone explain it to me.
@@carsenmaxwell3336 Rex is the reason why Mars is successful and plus he is a visionary. People just want change in the world (corrupt governments) which is why many chose to follow Rex who became Cobra Commander. Destro is just a businessman who profits from conflict and it something people look down towards. The Cobra soldiers in GI Joe Retaliation are part of the U.S Army and hated how they were forced to serve a corrupt government as its foot soldiers.
@@ryankwon8785 another thing to note is that cobra commander actually treats his minions with respect, while other villain such as vader would be rude and never appreciate whatever his henchmen do
Cobra only wanted world peace and to achieve it they needed to unite the world under one banner. They also got rid of nuclear weapons and threats that their presence brings to this world. GO COBRA!!!
The fort used at the end is Fort Pike in Louisiana. It represents Fort Sumter that lays at the mouth of Charleston Harbor. There are noticeable differences between the pair, namely, Pike sits on the mainland next to a railroad bridge. Sumter sits isolated in the harbor. It takes a thirty minute ferry ride to reach Sumter. Both forts saw service during the Civil War. Pike was taken over by Louisiana militiamen from Federal authorities in 1861, but abandoned the Fort when New Orleans was lost. Taking over the fort, Union troops used Pike to stage raids into rebel territory and to train United States Colored Troops, regiments comprised of black enlisted men and white officers. Sumter was the site of the first shots of the Civil War. The garrison surrendered without losing a single man. However, following their capitulation the fort was allowed to fire 100 blank shots as a salute until a pile of cartridges exploded from an errant spark, mortally wounding two men. In September 1863 the federals sent a landing party to retake the fort. It failed and most of the landing party was killed or captured. The fort remained in Confederate hands until the end of the war. Following Lee's surrender. The fort's original commander, Major Robert Anderson, returned to Sumter and raised the same US flag he took down four years ago over the ruins of Sumter.
If they ever do a GI Joe reboot they need to not change a single thing about this version of Cobra Commander. He's honestly just about perfect in this. And get Glen Powell as Duke..
I never watched these movies, but I assume Cobra Commanders personalty is based off his comics counterpart as opposed to the bungling, cowardly, egotistical, incompetent, tantrum throwing buffoon of the 80s cartoon.
It's funny how much Cobra Commander in the 80s cartoon is just a human Starscream. Not only because of the voice either. I guess that makes Serpentor Megatron. Even though Serpentor always seemed like a dipshit. THIS Cobra Commander in this movie is absolutely amazing..
Parece que tuvieron en cuenta las criticas del diseño del comandante de la primera pelicula y decidieron hacerlo tal cual a la serie. Y lo lograron, quedó perfecto para mí
Fun fact: Cobra Commander is elected to his position. Cobra holds an election every 4-5 years and he won the last election. Of course, this being Cobra, one has to wonder if the election was actually fair! LOL.
Storm Shadow must must of called Firefly for backup. Cobra is a large group of people who worship snake like they're gods. GI Joe captured their Cobra Commander in 2009 but he escaped in 2013
9:58 The other gun that snake eyes has that he didn't fire. That belongs to roadblock where did he get it and what happened to the other gun he had the one that matches the gun he was firing?
