I recently had an ASAT Classic S (alnico) made to order through Music Store Live and I am blown away by everything. It looks, plays, and sounds fantastic. And the best part is that this custom guitar cost about the same as an American Professional Tele.

I have a G&L ASAT Classic-S its a 3 pickup Tele, In my 35 years of playing guitar, and I have owned hundreds of guitars all the way from the original 50's guitars to brand new, custom built PRS's. The G&L ASAT Classic-S is my "ALL TIME" favorite guitar EVER. I have owned 59 Gibson Melody Makers, 60's and 70's Gibson SG's, 60's and 70's Stratocaster's, custom shop Les Pauls, and Stratocasters, and custom built PRS's. To be better then all those guitars really is saying something. I know alot of it is a subjective thing. But some guitars, just become an extension of your body, and your soul. My G&L does that in spades. To clarify though I have done some custom work to it, I have shielded the whole body cavity, and added Joe Barden pickups and deluxe locking tuners. This guitar will SMOKE any Tele that I have EVER played, and I've played hundreds of them.

Mark Maxon I bought a 50watt Music Man combo in 1979/80. It's served me well over the years and continues to do so. Sounds SO sweet with new tubes! I run a 1990 G&L ASAT through it.... what a great match. I'd originally bought a brand new Fender American Standard Tele, but traded it for the ASAT within a week of buying it. Big difference! :0)

@@tonypoore440 North American Swamp Ash that's been seasoned and dried properly at A5 quality is incredibly expensive. It is far more expensive than pine. remember the wood is worth nothing if it isn't properly kiln dried and seasoned for at least a decade for it to stabilize properly. You can do it yourself, but good luck building a large enough kiln to bake the wood and then finding the time to have it dry for a decade before you start your project.

Made in California by Californians, many of whom trace their roots to Spanish speaking countries. The greatest vintage necks ever made were made by Tadeo Gomez in the 1950s. His children and grandchildren, Californians all, are proud that his name brings such honor to their family. Great players prize hand craftsmanship. Californians are particularly talented at this.

i agree, I bought a traditional plus les paul for the same reason, it has the 50's style chunkier neck, but when I used that & then the mexi, it was a bit weird.. it was a tapered style? not sure if that is the term but it was flat /wide, prob good for tapping, but I am not a tapper, I am more classic rock, jazz, funk, & blues ..and I had a 91 usa strat I loved but was forced to sell , so now I have the 2001 and I was like ok this is cool.thanx I will def check them out, they sound like a deal.

If you ever get the chance to compare an off the rack Fender next to a G&L it's so obvious how much nicer the G&L is. Fenders are great no doubt and of Leo's designs I own 4 of them sadly not one is a G&L. I'm fairly certain a current Fender can be as good as a G&L but it'll need a proper setup. The guitars coming out of the old Fullerton plant are the shit. I'm fairly certain a Legacy is in my future.
@GlennMichaelThompson
@GlennMichaelThompson 9 лет назад
jack orion I had bought a Fender American Standard Tele; within a week I traded (upgraded) it for a G&L ASAT. The MFD p'ups, having a choice in the neck radius, the bridge with a hex key to tighten/lock it, all the attention to detail just make it such a better instrument. Also had a custom see through blue finish on the ash body. Absolute beauty in looks, sound, and playability.
@jasoncarpenter7108
@jasoncarpenter7108 7 лет назад
Get the Legacy. They are great guitars. The only thing I would change on mine if I could go back and custom build it would be to change it from S/S/S to H/H. But that's just me liking the sound of a humbucker at the neck. There is nothing wrong with S/S/S at all. Certainly a classic look providing a classic sound.
@TPCrisis
@TPCrisis 11 лет назад
Take a trip to your local guitar shop and check out the Classic Vibes to make sure you'll be happy with the necks because at least on the CV Strats they are a bit on the thin side. I personally prefer a beefer neck on my guitars so this was my one gripe.

@jnelson1600 5 лет назад
Well, saying the CV’s are “better than a MIM” is a bit of stretch. Saying they are close would be closer to the truth. A MIM Strat or Tele is the standard by which all guitars are measured. The diminishing returns of the higher priced instruments pale in comparison.

G&l instruments, totally surpass, miles ahead, any Fender custom shop master built creation, thoroughly equal, or even surpass any Tom Anderson, Tyler, Suhr (I think former G&L nitro finishing guru, was transferred to Suhr), Grosh, Prs private stock, Thorn, and come too close to D'Pergo, Stevenson, and Gustavsson, guitars. But, there are some museum grade G&l instruments out there, that kill any of the aforementioned makers with the exception of truss rod less D'Pergo, by which they keep hand to hand or extremely close...

The best G&L guitars were built between 2003-2008, mostly 2003-2004. I know seriously, what I' m talking about... They are some of the finest electrics of all ages... My 2004 G&L Comanche, sporting 1 piece museum grade birdseye maple neck, only found on Teuffel guitars, surpasses my Tom Anderson Drop Top, with Madagascar rosewood fretboard, any Don Grosh, PRS private stock, Tyler, Detemple or Suhr, and completely exterminates every Fender custom master built, with no mercy, taking no prisoners...
