Many thanks for your informative video, just make sure anyone attempting this has the correct sized Torx driver and a nail file to remove the dried glue. My Mum was stressed last night she had broken it, all working again now - thanks again for taking the time to make indispensable videos like this.

Thankyou, this is a very easy to follow and understand instruction on how to repair what appears to be a design fault by Gtech. I called the tech help line and They wanted to charge me £40 + pp for a new body/motor claiming it was an unrepairable fault with the motor. In stead I found your brilliant instructions and enjoyed a couple of hours in the garage/workshop. 👍

Lifesaver thank you !! Was about to buy a replacement battery but then saw your video. Easy to take apart, scraped the solid glue off the green bit and lightly sanded down. Re-assembly was a git tho. The black and white cables have to run down the slots and the main casing has to slide in via the grooves which is where i was going wrong...now back together and working fine...cheeers...x

Oh my god!!!!! My gtech handheld has been broken for ages and I didn't dare throw it out because it was working one day and then just stopped for no reason!!! I tried to find a solution but couldn't find any info other than it's completely knackered and there's no fixing it!!!!! And tonight, on my last ditch attempt at finding the answer I happened to come across your video and it's working again!!!!! Thank you so much for your awesome, easy to follow video! You've brought my gtech back to life! 👏🏻

I'm glad I found this video as I was able to fix my sister's G-Tech thanks to your help. I suspect the green plate is suppose to be glued to the base as mine cracked slightly pulling it apart and left green plastic on the clear fin assembly. I'm almost certain that the cause of the red lights is one of the rotating grey fins catching on one of the 3 screw holes in the green cover as you suspected. You can hear this on your video when you rotate the fins that it is catching somewhere. (I took a photo but you can't upload in comments). So I used some 400 grade wet and dry paper to remove the sharp edges of the 3 green hole edges and also the tips of all the grey fins that might catch on the holes. I did not check if you can do this without removing the motor completely or 'breaking' off the green cover - maybe you could do a video 2.0. There seemed to be a bit of play on the motor axle which seems to allow the fins to catch which maybe due to wear over time. Either way it's working now and you've saved a bit more of the planet and help avoid wasted money on unnecessary spares.

Just watched this as my Gtech was doing the same thing. Rather than taking it apart I removed the filter and housing so I could see the top of the fan, through the round grill you can see the fins that should spin. I then got a small flat headed screwdriver and tried prying it behind one of the fins, it made a little crack and spun freely, job done, saves taking it all apart. 👍

Brilliant Was just about to start looking for a new battery which I assumed was the problem when I came across your vid. Must admit I was sceptical even after reading so many positive responses. Dismantled it with no probs following your clear description of 'HowTo Do'. Relieved to find that it was indeed 'snotted up', as they say in my part of the world🙂 Scraped off the lumps, fine sanded and polished the surfaces, re-assembled, switched on and Bingo. Perfect. Like others , I did have a bit of difficultty putting it back together, mainly caused by the wires stopping the motor cover sliding down into position. Repositioning 'em - with a bit of difficulty - solved the problem. Anyway, can't thank you enough. Kind regards. S.H.

Really helpful video. I’ve always taken things to pieces if they have failed in the past. It’s so good to have a video of someone sharing the same problem with a piece of equipment. Really well done and thanks for taking the time out to help others. Mine is also back working now. Hardest bit for me was pulling the connector block apart as there isn’t much room to work and you don’t want to damage the wires. Used some long nosed pliers and a thin bladed screwdriver in the end to prise it apart whilst holding the locking part open with a toothpick wedged in! Keep up the good work. All the very best.

Hi, Thanks for the video. I had this issue and because of the video it is now fixed. But before I found this video, my machine was still under warranty. So I phoned Gtech up at 1600 hrs the day it broke and spoke to a very nice person on their customer service team. I told them what had happened. Straight away, they said they would send out a new motor base unit. It arrived at 1400hrs the next day. I have hardly ever had customer service this good from any manufacturer. So hats off to you both.

Super helpful video, thank you, I had exactly this problem, and wouldn’t have understood the cause of the problem nor how to fix it without this. Putting it back together in reverse order is a bit tricky because you need to align things exactly- I found a fine knitting needle or similar useful to line up the screw holes and get the right alignment. Also make sure the wires to the battery connector are properly seated in the grooves so they don’t interfere with the line up.

I was quite dubious about doing this the first time, for me it felt like I had to break the pieces to separate them with quite a bit of force, I can’t say how hard as it depends on how much has melted, if you can get something in between the fan blade and the green casing to pry them it may be the best, but please be careful as it isn’t the strongest plastic. If all else fails you can contact G-tech and they may send you a replacement unit.
@johnparsons9930
@johnparsons9930 5 месяцев назад
Finally managed it with inserting two screwdriver and very carefully prising apart. Quite hard. Took a lot to get the melted plastic off. Finally resorted to a small woodworking chisel and then coarse sandpaper. What was frustrating was the small screws kept getting attracted to the magnet on the motor. Still only cost me £7.98 for a pack of torx screwdrivers. Thanks for great video!
@jerryritchie9068
@jerryritchie9068 10 месяцев назад
Many thanks for a very helpful and clearly articulated guide to resolving this problem. By way of additional information, all the screws can be removed with a torx T10 driver except the two locating the switch PCB which require a T8. For me the worst part was clearing the hardened 'glue' - which originally caused the fan to jam - from the the inner surface of the fan housing base and the fan rotor. I found that very careful use of a scalpel did the trick and a then polishing both surfaces to smooth them out will hopefully avoid any further contact between the moving parts. I used a mildly abrasive cream for this (Jif kitchen cleaner in my case, but something like Brasso or T-Cut would probably do the same) and then wiped off any residue with a damp cloth. HTH
