I absolutely love it when Helen talks about when she was a little girl. My grandmother has been gone for almost 15 years now and when she was alive I didn't appreciate the things she could've told me. I was younger, living my life, not understanding how important it was to really value our elders. I'd give anything to have her back listen to all her stories. Her name was Helen, too.

Oh that fried chicken dinner looked so good my mouth was watering! That homemade macaroni and cheese was the bomb! And I was excited when Cody came home (so tired) and enjoyed that delicious meal. I was looking for Georgia style cooking videos and I found you and I love the way you talk and giving you a shoutout from Birmingham Alabama and I have deep southern Macon Georgia roots and come from a family of good Cooks and I think I'm one myself but I'm always willing learning to learn more and try somebody else's recipes and techniques

Miss Helen, sounds like me when my kids go back to school. Empty nest again. Glad Cody is a normal young man. Trying make his way in the world and find his place. Hard for us mamas and grandmamas to adjust to, but its a normal and natural phase of life. We will adjust with the Lords help. Thanks for the wonderful recipes. You don't see home made meals from scratch very much now days. Most are just warmed up canned or box foods . Even the Tea from tea bags & not powdered or bottled !! I've not seen anyone cut a whole chicken up either since my Mom decades ago . Your grandson may have to look far & wide for a woman to cook like you

Im not looking forward to being alone if my husband goes first, he has cancer but so far its under control (if there is such a thing). we are in our early 60's and building a home near the ocean. our sons live 200 miles away and we all stay in touch but i miss them so. I am praying the Lord blesses me with some good christian friends and our sons move here soon. Helen, you are a blessing and so many people love you out here in youtube land.

Me and my kid's LOVE you Miss Helen!!! I am a single mom with 3 kid's home and out of school until this crazy virus thing goes away and they open their schools back up. So we got a lot of extra time on our hands now! My kid's don't have grandparent's and you are exactly what the good Lord aligned up for my family to enjoy! So thank you for just being you 100% of the time!!! We spent our day outside planting wild flowers in our backyard AND we hung a bird feeder! You should have seen my 9yr old son when he saw a bird on the bird feeder! He was SO excited!!! Made me think of you and your love and passion for your garden and the birds that come and visit you!!!

My Grandson stays with me also and I love it, he can stay with me forever! My Angelo is a lot like your Cody, but is even pleasant in the morning. Lol

I remember my grandmother wringing chickens necks for our supper when I was a kid, but my fondest memories from the "good ole days" was watching my pawpaw brand the cattle with the local farmers. We'd sit on the top rail of the cattle fence and watch. Anyway, it's always a pleasure seeing you and watching your videos. Thank you for this one. So if it all the same to you, ide love to hear about your youth and what you'd eat, your meal times , mothers apron , what you'd wear , if you made your own clothes, what jobs did your dad do , beauty routines . Reminds me so much of my Mama cooking for, and helping to raise, some of my nephews. She was never more happy/content than when she was in the kitchen cooking up something for her loved ones to eat. There were 8 of us kids and I'm the youngest, Mama and Daddy have been home with Jesus for years and all but 1 brother and 1 sister have gone home too. Mrs. Helen, I am crying. I feel the same way you do. My son needs a job. I want him to have one. June will be 2 years since my husband of 26 years of marriage passed away. I miss him everyday. I don't want my son to go anywhere. He just turned 21. Love you Mrs. Helen. Prayers for you. I can cut up a whole chicken. I have killed and cleaned and plucked chickens. Did hogs, cows and did came syrup. People came to our hour from miles around to watch us make came syrup. This was in the 1980's.

Everybody let us all pray for Cody and his new job and his future employment. If we all send prayers up and positive thoughts it can help the Lord know we want him to bless Cody to find his place in this world. I miss my grandmas so much! There are so many fantastic memories that both of my grandmas and I shared. They both passed years ago when I was in my 20’s. I’m 66 now. That is why I love watching you! They were happy and positive woman and religious woman, just like you. They were so much fun to be around! When I speak to the Lord, I ask him to hug them for me. Their Love was so grand. Helen, Thank you so much for this video. You showed me how to cut up the chicken, make the fried chicken, make the sauce for homemade macaroni and cheese and how to make the biscuits. I never had to do any of that before. (Well, I did try a recipe I found on line for mac and cheese.) LOVE it. So sorry you are missing Cody so badly. Please remember you are NEVER alone. There is a whole army in heaven routing for you and cheering you on and a guardian angel at your side and the Lord just waiting to talk and Cody can always use your prayers - especially in the tough line of work he has chosen. We all enjoy hearing from you and it seems you perked up as you talked into the camera because you know we will watch and care and post back to you. Cody looked exhausted. Hope he gets a good nights sleep and you make him laugh before he falls asleep. He is training for a tough job and will need your support! He will see some ugly sides of humanity. My brother in law is incarcerated right now and we miss him terribly. But he’s doing ok there and we do get letters from him and we write back to him often. It’s not a place we wish anyone to be in but it’s necessary to have some peace knowing that those who commit crimes are locked up for everyone’s safety. It’s not an easy job Cody but I think you’ll do well. My brother in law is sick with mental health issues and got lost along the way sadly. He’s a great guy when properly medicated and they have him doing different jobs inside the prison. He tells us he’s found Jesus which we are so thankful for. You seem strong and capable to be a correctional officer Cody, I think you have the right personality to accomplish the tasks that will be brought upon you and compassion for others which will help as well. Your grandmother is very proud of you and so are we! Looks like you’ll be sleeping well after eating that scrumptious supper! Thanks Miss Helen for sharing your kitchen secrets today! I was raised saying supper. I've felt awkward saying that around people that say it's dinner time. It was always breakfast, dinner and summer in my house. Dear Helen, it sounds like you need a pet. They can bring such joy to our lives. But I do commend Cody for being such an awesome grandson to you. I can relate to what you were saying about the chicken killing. You're gonna get busy finding something to craft, I imagine. It's been so cold though. I finally made something pretty. A bowl I filled with cement, made another bowl from that, and put blue sequins in there, and top coated it with glue to see how it looked. You got the good coating stuff to make it right though.
