My dream GK4 would be a follow up to the 2nd part: FMV, with Dean Erickson either reprising his role or being a sidekick to a younger Gabriel. It could also be set again in Germany, as we have many places and forests where the "Walpurgisnacht" and witches are celebrated, for example the Harz mountain region.
Dean Erickson is currently a very deranged man. He also seems to hate even being associated his part in GK2. It's sad, back then he did a good job playing the part.
@@AdventureGameHotspot of course. Witchcraft and yeah Gabriel Knight I 20th edition graphic style is preferred by fans i guarantee. I liked GK2 also but part of me at the time wanted it to be like the 1st. The 3rd was terrible
@@davonc7973GK20's graphics, voice cast, and puzzles are all vastly inferior to the original and that a pretty common sentiment in the fan community. It's a much more fun speedrun though
@@CripplingDuality The 20th Anniversary edition does not have worse graphics, but yes the charm of the original's graphics is gone for sure. But no way it has technically worse graphics.
I am just highly optimistic. If witches or witchcraft, either go to Salem to have Gabe return to the states for the first time in decades or maybe in Spain to touch on the inquisition
There already has been an hint about the next game being about witchcraft. I'm talking about the comic that they released a few years ago, which really left me wanting for more. Let's keep our fingers crossed!
My thoughts of GK4 always was a story like GK1. I don’t know, for me is the best of the 3 GKs. After the GK1 remake, I think GK4 gameplay should be as this. Ghost or witches, I don’t care, It will always be a pleasure to play a new GK game.
Expending on the short comic that was released when the GK1 remake dropped would be interesting. Von Glower is there, talking to Gabriel. Is von Glower actually there, or is Gabriel going crazy??
I've loved point & click adventure games since the late 80s. But Gabriel Knight - Sins of the Fathers really made me a die hard fan of this genre 30 years ago and I've remained one to this day. There were good games before that, but with GK1 the genre grew up - in terms of content and also technically. In addition to the exciting story and well-written characters, it offered a really well-composed multimedia experience. Not least because of the good voice cast. From today's perspective, I find the user interface of the original annoying and it's a shame that a CD-Rom didn't offer enough space for a complete high-res version. I also really liked GK2. Because of the exciting story and the point & click sequences. I liked it despite the jerky film sequences, the unfortunately mediocre actors (my mother tongue is German, which makes it even worse...) and a main character who didn't convey the GK charm of the first part at all. GK3 also had a very, very good, exciting and well-researched story and well-written characters. The complicated controls and the disgusting 3D graphics, with which Gabriel and his friends fell deep into the uncanny valley, made it extremely difficult for me to enjoy the game. I thought the GK1 remake was surprisingly well done, even if it didn't quite have the warm, cosy atmosphere of the original (no FM sound and no pixel art) and I would have preferred Gabriel to have had the look and hairstyle from the original (which I would describe as a mixture of David Bowie, the AHA singer Morten Harket and Conan O'Brien). The voice cast was also very respectable. So how would I imagine and wish for a Gabriel Knight 4 game? 1. Definitely as a point & click adventure and not as a 3D game (neither FPG, nor TPG, nor VR) and certainly not as FMV. 2. With modern pixel art graphics (also in higher resolution). For example, I prefer the wonderfully atmospheric and dramatic visualisations of Ben Chandler from Wadjeteye Games (e.g. Old Skies, Unavowed, Blackwell Epiphany, Shardlight, Technobabylon) a 100 times over any rendered graphics. 3. The voice act from the remake would be perfect. 4. In terms of story, I can live with Witchcraft. Which suggests a storyline in New England, "Old England" or Ireland, for example. The ghost theme would also fit. As would ancient oriental demons, devil worshippers, the antichrist or a Lovecraftian scenario. I'll take almost anything if it's well realised. 5 However, I'm undecided on the question of "when". Should GK4 be set right after GK3, i.e. about 20-25 years ago? Or should it be set in the present day? With a Gabriel who is in Wolfgang Ritter's age and who perhaps already has grown-up children with Grace, including a Schattenjäger apprentice? Both scenarios have great advantages and disadvantages. If in doubt, I'm more in favour of the former, because a younger man is needed for the classic GK charm.
I liked everything I heard in this: It would be made in a similar style as the GK1 Remake, awesome! It's going back to the Ritter family roots, of hunting witches, awesome! I just hope they return to the dark dynamics of the story that made GK1 (and 2) so great. GK3 just... lost so much edge to me. It's like if Batman just started walking around in the daytime, and was spotted at the local corner store buying some odds and ends. That's how weird and out of place it felt in the series. If they ever remake it, I think this could be totally fixed, even if they keep the same boring story where they trick you into thinking it's about vampires, only to briefly show you one in the final cutscene. - Oh yeah, and the origins of the talisman? Yep, JESUS! Sorry St. George, you're OUT, Jesus is IN! He also apparently didn't resurrect after all, if... you know, they had his body in that casket at the end... Oh God, please just rewrite that tragedy of a game. It's like "The Last Jedi" in Gabriel Knight form.
Hi, I think the GK4 should be a classic point and click story/puzzle/research driven adventuregame. But! I think that you should make the game a hybrid flatscreen with a vr version. The vr version should only differ in immersion. I mean it should still be a 3rd person point of view (no first person stuff) and not braking the fourth wall (edit. I actually had forgot how much Tim Curry’s comments were breaking the 4th wall at least in GK3. I think being in vr with Gabriel or Grace and having them ”talk” to you would make it feel even more personal 😅). You would just feel like tou truly are inside their world. Kind of like how the game series Moss 1 & 2 are made (exept that its a platformer game). To be clear I dont mean a version where you look a flat screen of the game in vr, but are inside the same 3D space as the caracters and can look around etc. You just use the vr controls to point and click in the world as though would in a plain adventure game. (If it was a gk3 style game you could also move in the 3d space as camera). I think that hybrid flatscreen vr style would bring the adventure genre to a new age at the same time enhancing the best things of adventure games (which IMO are the immersion, atmosphere). It would still be completely playable and a excellent game as a flatscreen version but rightly implemented the vr version could be an enhanced version of the game and could even move some vr headsets and matbe invent a new modern form of vr adventuregames. ❤️
Passion is what really matters imo. If it is just done with the mindset of soulless profit yeah they'd be bad and banal. But if there is a real passion involved then I welcome branching into other formats. MCU was a great addition to the comics for example, it started with passion and it gave so many awesome moments to fans. Once they started dishing out content for profit with no drive, they started to suck.
Yes. I'm happy to wait but I believe it could work. There's a strong resurgence of older IP's right now and it would be a lost opportunity to not have one of the best series come out for an encore. So, we're talking Witches huh? What about Japanese/Chinese witchcraft wth the historical aspect WW2, set in Hawaii.
@@AdventureGameHotspot there were horrific events during that time, yeah, look it up. Maybe Jensen can find some redemption for them in it. I think the Japanese/American thing could give a more personal angle for Grace.
3D could be good but in that case they should work with a team who know how to make non-action 3D exploration and interaction interesting. These days there are plenty of examples of that, especially if you look at indies.
