Gaither Vocal Band - Let Freedom Ring (Live) | Reaction 

The Gaither Vocal Band was formed by Bill Gaither and has had many members over the years. These four are (Left to Right), David Phelps one of the best tenors on the planet, Russ Taff (raspy voice, used to be the lead singer for the Imperials in the 70s and 80s), Guy Penrod (Gray long hair, usually sings lead, and is a phenomenal singer himself) and Bill Gaither (sings bass and the founder of the GVB). They sing (and have sung, and continue to sing with various members) traditional Gospel hymns and such with the typical 4 part harmonies that make Gospel music what it is. Bill Gaither and his wife Gloria Gaither have also written hundreds if not thousands of songs over the last 40-50 years. They are treasures and pillars in the Gospel music community.

Anthony Burger on the piano and possibly the best piano player ever! Unfortunately he died at only age 44 .

This was in NYC, Carnegie Hall, in early 2002, just months after 9/11. It had been planned long before the tragedy, it was just providence that they were there at that time, singing songs of love and encouragement.

The Gaithers have been so influential in creating so many contemporary Christian arrangements for churches. I grew up on a lot of their stuff.

This performance was to honor 9-11 in NYC.

David was on fire on this night. This performance was powerful and emotional as it came off the heels of 9/11

I have had the pleasure of meeting David Phelps on a couple occasions and my wife and I got to spend about 20-30 minutes talking to Guy Penrod and his wife after a show in Albertville, Alabama a few years back. Both of these gentlemen are the real deal. The nicest, most genuine guys you could ever want to meet.

David Phelps has the most amazing voice!! "Hide Thou Me" will chill you to your bones!

The guy with long silver hair is Guy Penrod, long time GVB member.

For you singers out there towards the end that is a C#5 that David Phelps just snatches out of the air and let's it fly. Also if you watch closely when he hits that note a guy standing behind him (Jason Crabb) gets the most surprised look on his face.

I always enjoyed how they hype each other up & genuinely appear to appreciate their gifts.

This was performed at a Gaither event in New York as in appreciation of the first responders of 9/11. Bill and his wife wrote the song. The choir backing them is comprised of members of some of the best gospel groups in the business.

Oh my...I'll tell you that the GVB is always bringing the spirit of our wonderful creator into any environment you listen in. As others have said, over the years some of the members change but it doesn't much matter...if you want to feel the spirit moving in you, the GVB will surely help set it in motion!

Just to Guy's left. David Phelps: High tenor. On the far left. The GVB has had many lineups over the years, and Bill is still singing (and em ceeing at their concerts) today at 85!

I've been to several Gaither concerts and even got a selfie with David Phelps. He's no longer with the vocal band but I still listen to them. David Phelps is my all time favorite ❤

Being raised First Church of God ,the movement the Gaithers come out of, have always been so proud of this. Sandy Patti also come from our church. Our church is centered on missions. The Gaithers are true missionaries!

Bill Gaither ( the guy with the gray curly hair at 4:19) is an amazing singer/ songwriter who has been writing music since the 1950's ... They do a lot of traditional / southern gospel music , check out their website/ Wikipedia for more info . The Gaither Vocal band has had many different members over the years including Mark Lowry , the creator of the song "Mary, did you know? ' you should check out some more of the Gaithers ( search ' Gaither homecoming') and then Check out some of Mark Lowry's Comedy from the 90s

You should definitely check out Ernie Haas and Signature Sound. “Oh what a Savior” is one of my all time favs……”Get away Jordan” is also a barn burner….

David Phelps is the high notes - everyone loses it from him and he’s in his own league - gifted Russ Taff is good Guy Penrod is good too It’s southern gospel quartet it’s supposed to be traditional sounding & show off at the end !! I got to tell you the guy with the long gray hair is also a bad ass singer. You need to watch videos with him singing as well. Of course, David is David. Everyone is a vocal beast in this band, but those are the two to watch like the most often.

The Gaither Vocal Band has been singing for many years. A couple members have come and gone, but they are always excellent! Mark Lowery, who wrote “Mary Did You Know” was a member. They have some great songs out there. So happy to see you dipping into classic gospel! If you’ve never watched a Gaither Homecoming video, it’s a must!

I have been listening to David for years, over half of the gospel music industry is sitting behind him, some has gone on home to sing for the Lord. But watching this video that I have watched thousands of times before, I got more enjoyment out of watching you. Starting around 9:03 when David hits that note, it hit you, I seen it in your eyes and you just about come up out of that chair in which got me shouting. Thank you for educating us so beautifully on singers abilities it really has help me understand how difficult doing this is, you are a talented young man, may God keep his hand on you throughout your journey. I love to watch the Holy Spirit come down. Bill and Gloria Gaither brought many singers together and cut tapes, the best of the best are in them, and Bill Gaither had the Gaither vocal group in which David sang with them a few years. This concert took place a few months after 9/11 in Carnegie Hall.

The list of songs and awards that Bill and Gloria is very lengthy and can be found on Wikipedia. The most impressive to me is 2000: Christian "Songwriter of the Century" (with Gloria Gaither): American Society of Composers and Publishers (ASCAP)[11] I did not even know there was such an award. The group is incredible! It blessed me greatly watching your reaction to this song! I listen to this one a lot! God Bless you!

The beautiful idea behind the Vocal Band is that the members each are some of the greatest performers in the Christian music industry by themselves, but then together they make an all-star "quartet" with incredible tight harmonies with feature verses & songs that are out of this world. Eventually they added a fifth member to tighten the harmony even more... but having David Phelps, a mega-tenor, to "bat cleanup" as Bill Gaither calls it is just not fair. He is one of the greatest male vocalists EVER. Looking forward to some more David Phelps reactions, can't wait to see which one you do next.

Bill Gaither once commented that this song "belonged to David" and he'd never perform it, again, unless David was singing with them. To my knowledge, Bill has held on to that comment and has never done it without David.

That is Guy Pernod (long hair) David Phelps, Russ Taff and then Bill Gaither is the one on the far right singing bass. He and his wife Gloria started Gaither Vocal Band and produce a music for a lot of the groups individually! They are amazing! I’m 42 years old and went to my first concert when I was 7 or 8 yrs old!

I've been to one of their concerts...and it is unbelievable. Bill Gaither, the older man is the one who gathers the singers (he himself if the bass) to form the band. Through the years the members have changed... but Bill, David and Guy are always there. I love them.. great reaction!!
