Hey! Due to some audio errors and a grammatical typo within the last video, I had to re-upload this video. To help justify that, I also took the opportunity to add more of the non-Clone Republic military ranks and tidied up the navy rank list. Like I said in the last video, Separatist ranks are next. 👍
Your math is wrong, lieutenant commander 37 plus themselves. Meaning captions command 148 not 144 because you need to add the 4 lieutenants which means the commander would command more the 2304
Honestly the most detailed and easiest explained video I've seen about the republic ranking structure. I never heard of the pips or knew how much freedom clones had over colors and such.
@@SYLOStarWars oh never thought about the cis but i bet that'll be intersting. I remember a droid in the clone wars getting cut down by yoda saying "but i just got promoted!!"
Yep. Unfortunately, there are a lot of errors/inconsistences regarding the navy officer badges throughout the shown due to the animation process. This is due to the animators copy and pasting 3D assets and forgetting to change that little detail. Fortunately, they have since been better avoiding doing that for Rebels and Bad Batch.
Nice, really respect the editing. The exponential knowledge and the fact you went back to correct some stuff shows how much care for authenticity. Very well done soldier!
Despite what we are led to believe, it is bits of lore like these that show us how badly the clones were treated. The fact that the highest ranks within the GAR were always "reserved" to non-clones/jedi is only one of the many examples of this.
Not at all. It shows that the republic is weird as hell. Palpatine makes sure that the Jedi are given powerful positions so that they will be blamed for the massive tactical errors made by them and their clone units, meaning that massacres and havoc caused by the clones and foolish errors on the part of a young inexperienced padawan (as seen with Ahsoka losing some of her squadron because she did her own thing instead of following orders) that reach the public eye would be blamed on the jedi more than their cloned soldiers, since most reasonable citizens already regarded them with discontent.
(With voice of Guy from 'Galaxy Quest'): "If I am not expendable, then what is my name, huh?!? I DON'T WANNA DIE!!!" - every generic clone trooper, at some point
Yea he messed up Major and Commander, but Canon decided to make things confusing by not having Battalion Commanders, Regimental Commanders and Senior Commanders, in Canon the ranks are: Cadet Private Corporal Sergeant Lieutenant Captain Major Commander and ARC Commander Marshal Commander In Legends it is as follows: Cadet Private Corporal Sergeant Sergeant Major Second Lieutenant First Lieutenant (Lieutenant) Captain Major Battalion Commander Regimental Commander Senior Commander Marshal Commander With the Legends rank structure the main source of confusion is on wether Battalion Commander and Regimental Commander are equal in rank or if Regimental Commander is higher due to Regiments being larger than Battalions and containg Battalions.
@@TylertheCC1010fan battalion commanders are of lower rank as CRC-09/571 was promoted from battalion commander to regimental commander and was given aditional responsability to lead a corps.

Can you make a video explaining the Galactic Senate's roles? Like: senator, diplomat, senate guard. And last question: Jedis Generals are above the admiral in the Navy, so the Jedi Commander is above and below which of Navy ranks 8:01?
@@SYLOStarWars Ahhh, I got it. You helped me a lot. I am creating a group in a game platform (roblox to be specific) and there we have ranks and trainings, promotions etc... It is the Republic, kind of roleplay, I created it some weeks ago, and I am working hard to it grow. Your video helped me to create the Army ranks based in canon, now also in Navy 😁 (I am the Supreme Chancellor). Thank you very much.
Interesting thing is why above the rank of Major the clones were given the Battalion Commander, Regimental Commander, Senior Commander and Marshal Commander ranks instead of the Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier General and Major General ranks?
Not only is GAR structure different from real-world militaries, but the rank of General was reserved for Jedi and only Jedi. No clone was given any rank above Marshal Commander.
it's because only non-cloned officers had a chance to reach those specific ranks (Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier, etc). Clones are mere tools that follow orders.
It is implied that Rex was in command of the entire 501st Legion, but refused the rank of Commander so that he could stay with Torrent Company, but the Republic compromised by letting him still be a Captain and directly lead Torrent Company, but is also in command of the entire 501st and has the authority of a Commander, Canon has a less detailed rank structure, and lacks the more specific ranks, but the Legends rank structure is more in depth, while in Canon Rex is a Captain with the authority of a Commander, in Legends Rex is a Captain with the authority of a Senior Commander.
That is Commander Ponds man. I understand why someone..... less educated in who was paired with who, but Yoda wasn't paired with a legion or commander. Gree serves with Luminara.
@@alberto2141 At one point in the battle on Geonosis, Commander Ponds was on the command bridge of a SPHA-T walker, directing efforts with a Clone Captain on the walker's bridge[2] after Yoda ordered the artillery walkers to focus their attack on the nearest Separatist core ship, successfully bringing it crashing towards the surface.
@@SYLOStarWars I see, well you should do a more realistic rank video if you haven't already, as in the clone ranks they should be. Because while these ranks are "canon", clone ranks were never really explored at all in canon content, this is why they don't make much sense (major over commander?) and aren't fleshed out. A more sensible ranking system based on legends and how real life militaries work, would be Clone Trooper/CT, Corporal/CPL, Sergeant/SGT, Lieutenant/LT, Captain/CPT, Major/MAJ, Battalion Commander/BCDR, Regimental Commander/RCDR, Senior Commander/SCDR, Marshal Commander/MCDR, and realistically if Jedi weren't in the picture they would have higher ranks to lead sector and system armies. However these could be debated on what they'd be called, Grand Marshal Commander, ARC General (kinda canon kinda not), General, Lieutenant General, to name some examples. That's just my opinion however, I think going into more realistic and plausible ranks would lead to a better video as they really don't do clone ranks justice in canon
This video used all of the current canon material and knowledge at the time to craft the rankings here. I agree about having major over commander is odd, but that was taken from the Complete Vehicles book. However, the info since hinting to them to being at higher rank than they should seems to have been removed in the updated Complete Vehicles book (that funny enough came out not too long after I made this video), so it's hard to say for 100% at this point. But to be fair, I can see this easily being interchangeable, with Commanders above Majors, and vice versa, at least until we get further clarification.
Actually that's not true the highest ranking clone can ever achieve its arc general which is equivalent to Jedi generals but just clones there's only ever been tow that ever existed as I believe. you have to first be a ARC Trooper to order to achieve this rank it's the highest achieving rank that a clone can ever dream or achieve and it's also my most favorite clone ranked of the Grand Army of the Republic
This is good, however a Clone Major is lower than a Clone Commander. They have the same authority as a Captain, and also lead Companies. It’s like this: Lieutenant Captain Major Commander Marshal Commander Also, the rank name difference between what unit a Commander leads. If a Commander leads a Battalion, they’re called a Battalion Commander.
Canon really didn't need to change the rank structure, the more specific ranks in Legends helped clear up a lot of confusion, for those who don't know or need a refresher the Legends rank structure is as follows: Cadet Private/ Trooper Corporal Sergeant Sergeant Major Second Lieutenant First Lieutenant (Lieutenant) Captain Major Battalion Commander Regimental Commander Senior Commander Marshal Commander Really only confusing thing with the Legends ranks is if Regimental Commander is higher than Battalion Commander or if they are equal in rank. In Canon it started out as: Cadet Private/ Trooper Corporal Sergeant Lieutenant Captain Commander/ ARC Commander And Marshal Commander Major was added to Canon in 2018 by a reference book and only the reference book and only is on like one or two pages of said book.
I'm going era by era, so yes eventually I'll go over the Empire ranks (which are super long). To answer your question, yes Moffs are a higher rank than Admirals.
