Oh yea, the old school fix. This 3 step process helps every time, any all has an issues. Always a solid fix equivalent to a factory data reset but per an individual app.
My Galaxy S20 Ultra used to take great pictures all the time. After some or another update the portrait photos were all out of focus. I've been zooming way out to get photos that were at least in focus for the past 10 months or so. Following these three steps fixed my camera completely! Thanks GregglesTV!
Hooray! After a year of struggling with the focus on closeups, its fixed! I take photos of products i sell online for a living and this made made my process so much faster. Thank you so much.
Soooooooo much better for my Samsung S20+! That was driving me crazy!!! I could only get a good focus in the single take which is not what I wanted! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Thank you!! I use my close up camera for my nail art page and was basically incapable of focusing at close range. I used this video and now I am having no issues!!! THANK YOU!!!
When I hold the camera icon there's no "info" just camera or video then below that select or remove. That happens a lot when I look up how do do something. It'll say go to settings, open such and such, then hit "info", for example, there'll be no info to hit! And I can't even get a screen grab for this issue, of course, but I'm thankful for folks like you that makes video teaching us idiots how to do things! I'm a 50something widow. There are things around the house that I don't know how to do! I've installed a new garbage disposal, digital thermostat and a keyboard on my lap top with the assistance of RU-vid, to name a few! I hope you're as blessed as you bless us with your knowledge! 🙂
Omg!! Thank you, Thank you, thank youuuu! Ever since I first got the phone I've had a problem with the focus and it has been driving me crazy to the point of wanting a new phone even! This has literally solved the problem completely!
Thank you, this is a huge improvement. The camera is always hit or miss but it was horrible today and now it's working better than it ever has. Not saying it's too my expectations for a phone that cost more than a decent laptop but it's much better.
THANK YOU so much! I had previously messed with the Pro settings and used Reset to get rid of my mess. But then I also lost the max zoom feature I used to have, and the focus was also useless. I tried this fix and not only is the focus great again...but I got back the max zoom feature. So thanks so much! GREAT info!
Worked great! Tremendous help. I did not have the same response to tap and hold on the camera icon to get to settings. I had to do Settings>Apps>Camera>Storage to get to the Clear Cache option. I did not have an issue with getting to the wiping the cache screen with the instructions provided here. Hope this helps someone else as well! Thank you.
It worked! Thanks so much. Still annoyed we have to do it in the first place and I'll be changing phone manufacturer for the first time in 10 years due to constant camera issues with Samsung. No longevity!
this reset my phone to factory settings. i didn't do anything wrong and just did "wipe cache partition". 100% sure nothing else. So now, everything is gone, including important data. thank you very much......
Ditto, this worked for me too! What baffles me is Samsung could not come up with this on their own. What the hell do their engineers & techs get paid for???
Oh my goodness! This actually worked! Thank you so much! The camera was virtually useless for closeup shots and even after the update it wasn't fixed, but this did the trick!
GOD BLESS YOU GREG!! I lost so many moments because my phone wasn't working right. I tried this and it worked! I am so thankful you posted this and I hope it helps everyone!
well this fix worked initially, and I don't know if my phone received an update, but now it's having the same focus issues again. It looks like this might be a repetitive process unfortunately. But at least I have a way to fix it no matter how many times it reoccurs!
This seemed to help my front camera focus, although it didn't really make it it as clear as my S9. With that, I can see every pore on my nose/individual eyelashes etc. On the s20 fe, it just looked washed out and unclear/not sharp. I don't even have beauty filters turned on after update. BTW, I had to plug it into my laptop to charge before this trick would work. Otherwise it would boot up normally.
Before this video, every single thing i tried to focus on from more than 20 ft away was so blurry you could only see the colors and no shape. I just took a bunch of lovely, up close pictures of text, and you can read every word! thank you so much!
Thanks! This certainly helped to improve my camera quality. Was living with the terrible blur, and eventually I switched to using the normal 3:4 (without the 64MP) on my S20... But the autofocus on the 64MP camera seems to have improved after following the 3 steps!
omg thank you so much, I have been having focus issues for a very long time but was never bothered looking into a fix.... finally I cracked the shi7s and found your video and clearing settings worked.. thanks
Guys if you are one of the people were you've tried everything and it still doesn't work, there is one trick that works. You might be sceptical but just trust me, i was too until it solved blurry images that didnt work with any other method. All you do is smack the phone camera hard quickly onto something like your hand (hand is soft so it wont break dont worry). So you want camera facing down towards the palm of ur hand, do that and your auto-focus should be fine after that.
Thanks! I was about to change a phone because of that, now I will change it because of other reasons. Im glad that pictures and videos are better now and focus issue is solved.
My problem is selective focus. If I'm trying to focus closely on something (like a poster), I'll tap and everything turns into mashed potatoes. Its so aggravating since I spent all this money when it first came out
The solution seems to work for me too. I tried to reset the app and its cache and it doesn't solve the problem. I don't think to wipe the cache into the Recovery mode. Just after this tip, I try to take some pictures at 2x zoom and my photos are now very clear and sharp. Beside I noticed that it's much clear in the gallery than in the live preview. Also, I tried in interior with artificial light. I can't wait to try outside during a sunny afternoon... Not very easy in the north of France in November 😄 Thank you for this precious tip.
Thank you very much. Just the first reset solved on my S20 5G not focusing any more! I can wait to buy the Galaxy Flip :D and I will save a lot of money keeping my actual mobile still perfecty working!
So I finally got my update this morning for my Ultra ( unlocked on T-Mobile) and my camera is working perfect. So I did a couple of things different (not meaning to) but it ended up working out perfectly. As always great video.
No changes. I installed the latest update today. It seems to have a slight improvement but, it's still slow to focus. It doesn't seem to hunt as much unless your in lower light conditions. The focus still adjust suddenly but seems to stay in focus. Might be acceptable for still shots such as posing where you can take your time. But video is still jumpy. When you move from a distance focal point to one closer in, like from beyond 6 feet infront of you then move your focal point to a spot like only two feet or less it jumps, sometimes hunts goes a second then locks on subject. It still needs improvements. The iPhone pro max and my older Note 9 is way wsy better. You don't even see those cameras focus, it's just there. Come on Samsung fix this crap or this $1400 Flagship is gonna sink. They might as well name the phone the Titanic. If Samsung doesn't fix it to equal their rival Apple IPhone pro max or even other Samsung devices, they're gonna lose a lot of sales and the S20 Ultra is gonna be failure for Samsung. They already pissed me off.
Exactly! Well said my thoughts also. My note camera is currently better then my ultra Called Samsung care no help they told me to take it to their repair center I said we're on lock down and can't. They can't do nothing.
Thank you very much. I purchased a refurbished phone from amazon. I was very disappointed with the camera focus issues. I followed the steps you have shown. It worked 😀..
Damn Dude! Thanks! I've been having focusing problems for months. I think the "wipe cache partition" did it. Man, I hope this holds. I was ready to trade in again! Really appreciate your post
[TIPS If you're not able to go to recovery mode] Connect your phone with your headset, and it should work. This happens when your phone is on One UI 3.0. I think my camera is now better, thanks!
Thank you so much! You’re an absolute star! I was going to return my phone because I couldn’t find a fix and was so annoyed at the camera. Thank you!!!
Been using the Google camera apk since I first noticed this issue. It stopped working and crashing recently so I had to go back to stock camera. This video saved my sanity. Thank you so much for making this.
It's intentionally programmed this way, to encourage new phone sales. Over time ur cam quality will get crapier, and new phone camera will always look better.
I just noticed that when it's set to 4K60, it won't start focusing until I tap the screen first. When it's set to 4K30, it works normally. I think 60fps might be the problem.
Thanks a lot man. I have been dealing with this problem for years. I don't take a lot of close up photos but when I did this focus issue was a pain. I wish I found your video two years ago.
Didn't work on my phone at all (S20+). Focuses fine in 1X mode, but once I tap the 3X mode (telephoto), it immediately drops out of focus and won't focus or even attempt to focus on anything. Same for portrait mode! No focus or even any attempt to focus!
Still didn't work. This kind of sucks I just can't believe there's like really know autofocus I compared my Galaxy 5, my Galaxy 6, and my S7 to this autofocus when shooting up close one of the things I was trying to shoot was a penny I sell coins and stuff and all my other phones focus better than this one I don't get it
1) For those who cant wipe cache partition, please connect your phone with type c cable to your laptop. This is a new step required after this video was made. 2) This method does not work for me. I still need to hit my phone camera to make the zoom focus correctly. 3) For now, another method that i try to work around is to set the zoom to 0.9X (1.0X to 4.9X are all very blurry) and change camera setting mode to start camera in the last used mode, so that i dont need to change the zoom every time i close the camera. Hope this helps with other users who face the same problem as me. Have been samsung note user for so many years, this problem make me rethink if i still want to continue using samsung phone.
Just tried his method, several times already, shut down the phone, pressed the high volume key and the power off button, waited for 5,6,7,8,9s and failed to get into the 'bios' menu every time, I'm affraid. So it didn't help me one bit..
I wish I could add a picture to show the improvement before and after. I knew there was a way to fix it because I was using my magnifier to take close up pictures that were clear but the colors were awful. Snapchat works fine it's just my actual camera sucked for close up. The focus seems much faster and a lot better for close up thank you
Wow I cannot believe that this worked. The autofocus on my new S20 has been horrible and this made a big difference. I almost didn't try this because I was so sure that it wouldn't work.
So does that mean that if I don't use the 64Mp I can avoid these focus issues? Can I also ask when does the zoom get really bad? Apparently the 30x and 100x isn't good I was kinda hoping 30x would at least be good.
@@CatBat90s same here, but have you tried taking a picture directly on whatsapp chat....its just no option there, you make the snap and boom blury as hell...so, there is where i want a fix asap.
Taufik Lama Thanks very much for replying to me, Thanks for the heads up with the WhatsApp I’ve just bought the Note20 as my area doesn’t cover 5G feeling excited hope all goes well. I bought off amazon.
Thanks man. Couldn't focus on the moon. I had already tried to rest the camera and cleared the cache but it didn't work. Until today when I wiped the cache partition.
If you can't go to system menu, just connect your s20 ultra to your pc with type C, than you will be able to do it. If this 3 steps did not fix your problem as me, than when you want to take a photo shake your phone hardly, or hit your phones screen or back with your finger every time... I had this same problem with my galaxy S8 and than I bought s20 ultra, still get this, looks like something wrong with me...
That's promising to hear. Before I try that, could you please confirm that it doesn't wipe out all app login data and such? Would I have to go back and log back into all the apps (or at least non-Google ones)?
@@IllusionSector I can only speak for myself and my experience but it did not wipe out any of my app data or logins when I did this on my Samsung Galaxy S20 5G.
This has made the camera a bit better but only marginaly. Still not as good as Huawei p30 pro camerawise. Also when clearing partition cache you need to connect earbuds by USB to get the menu
Unlocked on t mobile..I just got the phone yesterday..when I was setting up the phone one or 2 update came..but not sure if its is the camera fix..auto focus in my ultra is terribly bad..hope I haven't got the update yet..can anyone send the screen shot of the update pls..
Will try this. In my case, I notice when shooting HDR video (somehow still in "labs" all the way on the S23 series it seems 😑) 7 times out of 10 it does not auto focus at all. Annoying when in the S10+ this sorted itself out after the first few times.....
I can't get to that blue orange screen where it says clear partition. Just keeps turning on the phone as normal as I've followed the steps several times.
My S20 Ultra camera is always blurry. If I zoom out to 0.9X it's clear. If I zoom past 4.0X it's clear. Anything between that is constantly blurry no matter what. This happened to me and my friends phone right when the Galaxy G21 was released. Pretty frustrating to not have a functional camera on such a pricey phone.
This solution is way too involved, phone shouldnt be going to those depths - Id be tripping out. A solid update / patch should be able to fix it not going through this crap
This is android/Samsung. If you can't be bothered to do stuff like booting into recovery then there are other non pro devices that are way more user friendly. Not saying this specifically towards you but just in general. This is my favorite thing about Android (the tinkering and making shit work the way it should for me). Granted the ultra should have been QA tested and this patch shouldn't have to happen.
Its sad because a leader phone like this thats a direct competitor to the iPhone should be better than this. ESPECIALLY THE CAMERA . I went from a s1 to a s5 now the s20 and I will say this phone is only a solid 7/10 . My s5 lasted almost 6 years . The s20 even freezes a little on page searches. This is unacceptable.
Some of you are going to think I'm crazy when i say this. But try shaking your phone or hitting it against the palm of your hand. Its only a temporary fix before you have to do it again but it works.
Of all the Samsung phones I have had over the years, the S3 had the best camera! This camera in the S20 for photos for lack of a better word SUCKS! Video, it's great! I did your fix and it still doesn't take crisp clear photos! As a photographer, this is what sends us back to our DSLR's the cameras in these phones are great for snapshots or capturing a moment, but for fine intricate photos with detail, the S20 doesn't cut the bacon! For the price of $1,750.99 Canadian this phone should be able to at least take a photo of the moon with detail but all it takes is a white disc in the sky. But I will say this, it DOES take great night photos! Funny how it takes shit photos in the daylight and great at night!
