Finally some one adresses the issue with screen brightness outdoor. I feel sometimes while recording video with this phone it dims down automatically and hard to make out whats being recorded
Cases please. There are hardly any good cases for s22 ultra. Worst the transparent cases are expensive and start turning yellow in less than couple of months.
I've had my S22 Ultra for 2 months now, and I am in love with this phone. It can do anything you want without one bit of lag. I have been multitasking with ease and the S-Pen really comes in handy at times when I have to write stuff down or just take notes. Overall the best phone you can get at the moment.
i can't explain my happiness with s22 ultra, its my first expensive purchase of life, i was so scared after purchasing it, but now i am so happy with my lovely s22ultra, you saved my money from iphonophobia,
@@TheTehkman don't know what you mean by payment apps to unlock developer options... it's built into the OS, and many videos showing how to unlock it... and dropping animations down to .5 instead of the default 1 makes the S22U just as snappy as an iPhone 13 PM... my phone absolutely flies, and it definitely moves faster than what he showed on his video. That's the thing about a Samsung(and Droid)... you have to know or investigate these things, and average users just aren't going to do that...I just appreciate the fact that Samsung(and Droid) realize that a market exists for us that will explore.
I was going back and forth with my iPhone 12 pro max and my z fold 3. Using them both. I traded in my z fold for my s22U and I haven't put my chip back in my iPhone since I got my s22U. Going on 3 months now. Love it!
I'm happy with my S22 ultra, yet I'm still pretty upset with my 2 month pre-order delay 🙄. Just wish Samsung could make it easier, like Apple, to purchase in America.
@@OT4Tech how come tgis phone is in shortage in US but in places like SA you can get it by just going to Samsung store or 3 days after ordering it online?I thought US is a place where it all starts
I've had mine since launch and it's been an awesome experience. It's my first full flagship phone (my previous phone was an S10e). It's definitely worth the extra cost compared to other phones.
Ive had this since release, and the updates have definitely curbed most of the "app breaking functions" (which are rare anyway). The camera has been phenomenal, and the screen brightness is definitely the brightest ive ever seen or used (cant speak of Xperia).
12:15 Now that sounds like a good idea for the S-Pen, a built-in microphone inside it. Samsung should make it more dust-resistant and water-resistant on that S-Pen if it comes to that.
Just picked this phone up after finally having enough with pixel 6 pro and I couldn't be happier, I was worried that I would miss how amazing the 6 pro camera was but this camera to me is almost neck and neck with it. Easy to say that it beats that phone in some shots and vice versa
I've been extremely happy with my S22, I also added the recommended apps and have been enjoying the experience more. Thank you very much for the videos.
This is isn't directed towards anyone. But it doesn't do much to show a an example of the audio. Because it will in the end depend on what device people are watching it on
Updates have improved camera lag, but the phone still runs hot and the mic is tinny, making voice for video unpleasant. Those are my chief complaints. Thanks for your honest review.
I live in the UK and I bought the Exynos variant. Im so much happy about my decision to go with the S22Ultra. The overall experience is so amazing. The fact that we can give the device newer looks in terms of customisation is a big hit. The camera though its Exynos, is amazing. Portraits are fun more than being perfect. Its so much satisfying. The ExpertRaw feature is an industry leading thing. Overall Happy being a Samsung user after using Huawei for nearly 4 years. But still I miss my Huawei P40 PRO. 😅
I got the S22 and tried it as my main driver for about 3 months but the lag and freezing got the best of me so I went back to my iPhone 12 Pro. Use the S22 as my back up personal phone as it is still a beast in many ways!
Peak brightness wise I feel as if Samsung's auto brightness is really the best in class... Never have had to fiddle with the brightness, though to get most brightness make sure that the extra brightness and similar toggles are enabled!
I always like your content. As for the dust between the cameras, the cases I use generally have the individual camera cut outs which eliminates that problem. Again thank you so much for your content.
I switched from many years of iPhone to the Samsung 22 Ultra just a few weeks ago. I am well pleased. I'm not saying the the iPhone was bad. It has just gotten boring for me. I like having the newest products I can get. My new Samsung watch 5 Pro arrives tomorrow. I'm excited. Your videos did a lot to win me over. Thanks
S22 ultra the 🐐, this phone has been great. After 4 months I still can't keep it out of my hands I enjoy using it. Best phone on the market in my opinion. Great video by the way...
Picked one up just a couple of days ago, battery life wasn't as good but oh man, that's camera is incredible. I haven't never seen any picture from a phone that looks this natural and not just good, it's really feel like I am shooting with a mirrorless DSLR instead of a phone camera with the usual computational photography. The manual and 108mp mode is especially impressive
I absolutely love my s22 ultra. The only thing I miss are good cases. My iPhone 12 has a shelf full of cases but on s22 u hardly anything looks good. Worst I can't show off my green colour :P
I have the note 20 and I'm about to get this phone. The fact that taking pictures of the moon and starts with my phone or beats all other phones. Trust me people have tried to it do mine with apple and a couple others. I'm extremely excited about this one because it's a100x zoom which mine is 50 so if my space pictures look this good now I can't wait to see it on this phone. Thanks
My only 2complaints with this phone is the battery life when actually being used and the speaker quality. Also, I use icon packs from the Play Store all of the time. I'm not sure if it's because I use Nova Launcher and there are a few steps to apply those icons to both Nova Launcher and the stock Samsung Launcher.
Been using mine for around 2 weeks now aftee having my S20+ for about 2yrs and i love the S22 ultra for sure. Feels way different and more premium. Will be using it for a really long time definitely 😄
Thank you for this positive review on S22 Ultra. Unlike lot of Apple biased reviewers infested RU-vid you are the one gave a much positive review of S22 Ultra. Also I am happy to see Sony 1 IV comparison and you are the only one I think using a Sony flagship. I ordered S22 Ultra and waiting for the delivery. I hope I enjoy much with my phone 🤠 thank you
@Jonathan Casey First let me say I'm a huge fan. Your videos are awesome it give the point of view from a regular user. Secondly I am a Samsung/android user for a long time. I had note 3, 7, 9, 10, 20 ultra and not the S22 ultra(aka note 22 ultra). I live them all. And I totally agree with everything you mentioned. This is by far the best of best, and you can't go wrong picking one up. If anyone has it knows exactly what I'm saying. Keep the videos coming! Sean from DC.
I'm still using my burgundy S22U in 2023 and loving it...I must admit the lavender S23U was calling my name because shades of purple is one of my favorite colors. I'm trying to hold out for the S24U that should be an ULTIMATE BEAST OF A SAMSUNG DEVICE 🔥💯🔥💯🔥💯
Jon, You can import themes from the play store, you just might need to use a launcher. I'm not 100% sure if it can be done on the original home, because I never use the original home since I like creating my own themes. I recommend Nova launcher though.
Yeah some people still had the TouchWiz trauma somehow. 😜 You can import icons from Play Store with an extra step that is with Theme Park. Been 4 and a half month with my S22U and i don't have much issues aside from the phone getting quite hot if i watch videos outdoor for too long but then again i live in Malaysia so i just use power saver to throttle the CPU to 70% and my battery temp is able to stay below 40C that way.
I love the s22 ultra. For me I don't mind the little flaws because it's a device....even expensive cars have flaws. I just enjoy my phone. It's reliable and the cherry topper for me is that I was able to pass my galaxy s8 to my daughter and my galaxy s10 to my mom. These Samsung phones last a very long time! I still use my gold galaxy s7 at home. I love Samsung! ❤️
11:40 - You can actually use any icon pack from the play store, but you need to do it through Theme Park (Good Lock module). Create a custom theme there and just change the icon pack and apply. You can use any.
Love the videos Jonathan, thanks for all the continued insight! On a seperate note, I'm a huge android fan and am also using the S22 Ultra. Although, while I am also generally a PC fan, I have continued to struggle with Windows and my Dell PCs, currently XPS 13 9310. So much so that I have considered switching to an Apple laptop which I have never owned... Without being able to take advantage of the ecosystem, isn't worth switching laptops? Thanks for you input! 👍
I don’t own an apple laptop , have been very seriously thinking about it though, as a long time android and pc boy , and now an iPhone and apple iPad user for about 1-5 years , i absolutely hated iOS for about the first two months, but it grew on me the more I learned how it works, and the more I use it the more i like it. It’s not perfect , and there are some things I still miss from android and even windows , and I was worried there would be things I can do on my pc I can do , that I can’t on the iPad or the iPhone , but I’m finding , the more I look , the more I find and there is not much at all in my daily use (which I must admit is fairly basic )I can’t do , and I’m finding some subtle things in the ecosystem that do really impress me. For example I had my phone on charge in another room yesterday, and my iPad Air a wireless model next to me while watching the telly, and out of the blue a phone call came through on my iPad which turned out to be very important , I took the call no problems . I can’t say whether an apple laptop will fit your use , it might be worth a look though mate , just perhaps do a little homework to see if the things you want to do are available on the apple device you want. I’m pretty confident I will also have an apple laptop or a iMac in my life in the not to distant future. Good luck with your decision.
I switched from Windows laptops to Macbooks years ago and I plan to never come back lol. I love them! My windows laptops used to run so slow after a while and they got problems easily. Never had a single problem with my 8 year old Macbook. I must say though, using an Iphone with it is very convinient, because you have airdrop etc.. but I have ordered the S22 ultra now so we”ll see how it goes.. 😊
I have note 20 ultra to my son and upgraded to the s22 ultra and I do love it outside of no memory card but great phone great cameras and I love the brightness in direct sunlight
I know this has nothing to do with the video, but I'm paying RU-vid premium so I don't see ads. I still see ads. I guess I'm just have to cancel premium services. Anyway, great video! I got the "note" 22 ultra 512 version. It's a great phone but I'm still using my iPhone xs max 512 as my daily driver. Call me dumb.
Great video. I have the s22 Ultra. I agree that while it's not perfect, it's damn close. I think most comments about "lag" and "bad batteries" are from people who don't have the phone and are just parroting some RU-vidrs who used the phone as a review unit for a few days without the updates and the phone getting acclimated to their usage. Hope you made it off that wall safely. It looked pretty high up 😂
The only downside that I have heard a lot about the new Samsung s22 series of phones it’s the battery optimization! For the size of the batteries in these phones they don’t last long which does not make any sense! They need to fix there software too with there hardware more!
Brightness on this phone - with Extra Brightness turned On, & Adaptive Brightness turned Off - its brightness is stupendous! However - this will be throttled by the phone if it gets too hot. This threshold is quite low (throttles quite soon) if the phone is actually charging. This threshold is reasonable if the phone isn't charging - but - it will throttle at about 38°C internal temp (I think the internal sensor technically only reads the battery temp - but it provides a direct correlation).
Mr. Casey, I had a question about your last video. I thought the purpose of GOS was to restrict power imbalance on your phone of the SD8G1 chip by optimizing apps. How does turning it off make it better if apps are going to, what I assume, run at higher power? 🤔 doesn't make sense to me. Did you test 2 phones side by side before to prove GOS is a battery drainer?
GOS is a power throttle app that reduces the performance of games to save battery life, to make the S22U seem better than it is. Samsung pushed it to the kernel meaning we could not turn it off, so no access to the full power of the SD8G1. This made the SD8G1 less powerful than some SD888 phones. People were rightly outraged that Samsung did this, hiding the poor thermals of the chip (made by Samsung) and limiting consumer choice. In S Korea it was seen as unacceptable and Samsung temporary lost many sales, and had to give half-price carrier deals along with a full apology. Now we can turn it on or off. It was badly done by Samsung and they got a lot of flack for it in S Korea. Not in the US due to the super fans here that praise Samsung and excuse them for anything.
I love my S22 Ultra but I do have some issues with the camera every now and again, battery life is hit or miss but feel like I need to go back and try my Pixel 6 Pro again just to see what the updates have done to that phone Also congrats again dude
11:37 Look for an app on the Galaxy Store called Theme Park. It allows you to change the colours of One UI and import custom icons for the standard One UI Home launcher.
Really enjoyed the phone I agree with all the stuff you mentioned in your review I think battery could be improved If factory reset after update But I am lazy to do it since I got too many apps and photos to transfer Nice video ,, really liked being spontaneous
I've had the phone since launch with no screen protector been dropped a few times as swell and I still don't even see any micro scratches even in bright sun light every other phone I've owned had at least a few scratches at this point but the screen on my s22 u is still pristine ..for now
What do you think about samsungs external storage device they released recently for mobile devices using usb typ-c. I might need to order one in the near future given that my S22U has no expandable storage.
I like this phone but recently it has been over heating doing basic things like scrolling Instagram and that slows the phone down a bit I also think my S21 Ultra is smoother than this phone, other than that I have no complaints I am glad I got this phone
S21 Ultra is indeed much smoother. I have the S22 Ultra and it feels a bit choppy..also volume isn't as loud either and 1 camera feature is unable to enable it on the S22 Ultra. 😭
Yes, sometimes the screen auto brightness is not doing a great job. Is it the screen that reflects too much? Is it the screen being in shadow and you sitting in the sun? Or just Samsung trying to save some battery? I don't know.
I'm absolutely torn between the s22u and the 13 pro max. They're both solid phones, with obvious trade offs. Anyway, I really like your coverage on the s22u!
I‘m an Android user for more than 10 years (mostly Samsung) and switched to the 13 Pro Max. I love the experience. The 13 Pro Max is an amazing phone. You cannot go wrong with any of these devices
Do what I did and get both 🤣 I use my iPhone 13 pro max as my personal and my Samsung s22 Ultra for my work phone. They both have their pros. If not for how user friendly apple is and it’s ecosystem, I’d probably be strictly Samsung.
I am happy with my s22 ultra after July patch. Overall is good, except 108mb camera mode which I feel it ugly and blurry photo than normal camera mode, sometime it looks good and sometime it looks so bad.
I have S21 and the brightness doesn't feel right, when it's sunny day and the sun is not shining directly on the phone it's pretty difficult to see anything I think Samsung doesn't let you manually use the max brightness For me there is no difference when I slide between 70% and 100%brightness. Only auto brightness will make a real change and you need sun shine to hit the sensor
My experience is VERY different from yours. I've had it for a while as my new phone now, and honestly, the speakers are crap (Pixel 4a is better), the screen aspect ratio is quite dumb (shouldn't be that tall IMO), the glass back annoys me the most though because why would you want a brittle glass back instead of just plastic. We all use a case to protect that glass, why do we even have it when we never see it? My previous phone (Onpleus 5T) was as fast, battery lasted equally long with my use and the metal back was invincible. Honestly when I was looking for a new phone, there wasn't anything on the market that actually made me want it. It was a necessity to get a new device and it sucked. The market is so huge and yet there is no phone that fits my very basic requirements (highest spec without any dumb stuff).
I don't enjoy this phone anymore. Too big for one hand use. And near impossible to use after a case on. But you gotta keep the case or you will be sorry if you drop it . It drags my pant down with its weight. Texting/typing experience is bad. It overheats quite a bit while charging it and prolonged use. Snapdragon 8 gen 1 is a terrible chip. I doubt it will last like 3-4 years. I wanted to use this phone for content creation like the promos and ads were suggesting. But the built in photo and video editors are very basic and not anwhere close to the pc version of editing programs. you gotta buy Picsart pro or adobe photoshop pro subscription for advanced photo editing. And Capcut is a good option to do some decent video editing. But I could've done all those thing in a much more cheaper phone. Except for the good camera lenses it didn't bring anything extra for content creators. If I didn't get over-hyped about the moonshot and nostalgic about my old Note4 I would have never purchased this phone. Iam probably gonna trade in this phone for a smaller S23 or whatever pro iPhone comes next year.
Use mine quite heavily every day, battery life been great to be honest, around 7 hrs screen on. You need to take the time to go into the settings and put all those useless apps that use background services in the "deep sleep" category so they aren't running using up all your battery for nothing.
I normally iphone users and since i seen my friend take photo of the moon i fell in love with the s22 ultra . Been a week and i can say i is the best decision iake to switch from iphone
5:00 Here's hoping the S23 Ultra, the one I'll upgrade after the S22 Ultra by trade-in, I hope it won't use the camera design of the S22 Ultra, but it'll use the S21 Ultra's camera design. This will reduce the annoyance of dust build up on the back camera.
The curved edged make it impossible to get a screen protector, thus making the screen easier to break. I see you list the whitestone dome glass in the description, but it doesn't work well on curved edges. The adhesive starts doing a crazing effect under the glass in the curved areas, plus the fingerprint sensor isn't guaranteed to work.
