Wow! Worked like a charm, 1st time too! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video, my Galaxy tab is now super fast, even though its from 2014!! It was so slow with Android 4! Amazing, and a great way to stop older tablets going to landfill. I really appreciate the time you took to make this video! Awesome! :-)
This was brought for my dad who has dyalisis 3 times a week ru-vid.comUgkxhCuDBrUituw2nsXGvNEQnKy8UaTIxd8Y and is regularly admitted to hospital. This has definitely saved him from bordem whilest having his treatment. He’s watched loads of great films and fount himself learning more each day
Thanks Marcus! This worked BUT with some hiccups which I cover here: 1) Make sure you put the gapp and lineage zip files onto your tablet's SD card at the root level. I had to do it manually. Also make sure to get the ARM not ARM64 version, 7.1, pico. 2) When removing KNOX, you must restart your tablet FIRST or it will simply hang while running SU to delete KNOX and won't do anything. 3) After uploading TWRP to the tablet completes, I didn't get a green box, but it did complete. 4) When you restart the tablet with the intention of running TWRP, you must hold down PWR, HOME and VOL UP and you must keep holding it after the samsung splash screen shows up and disappears and reappears again. If you release it before the splashscreen reappears, you will just boot into samsung instead of TWRP. This was the part of the video where Marcus said he missed showing us the splashscreen and I guess forgot to explain that.
Hello from Costa Rica today on 2023. I can say that this is th only one video that could guided me on root and install a custom rom on my old tablet. I'm very appreciate your help! Like and suscribed!
For those of you who got stuck at Downloading screen when booting the "TWRP". When I booted the TWRP with Odin, it took a few minutes for it to say "PASS" but on my device it still stuck at the "Downloading, do not turn off target" screen still. I left it there for like 5 mins then hit the power button to turn it off and it restarted fine. And if you're running into error 64, that means you downloaded the GAPPS "64 arm" file. You need to redownload the one with just "arm".
Thank you for this HOW-TO video. It took me half a day (lots of other info out there). But all pieces fell into place. GIVES THIS OLD TABLET A FEW MORE YEARS OF LIFE.
thank you so much !!! I've been searching for guides all day and this is the only one I could follow. I have succeeded in upgrading my Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 using your guide as a template, with slightly different files for my specific device. Also thanks to all the people who work on this.
@@SoffyEstrada I'm so sorry, it's all a bit of a blur now...I had a look at my old bookmarks and one thing I can see is that I used download.exynos5420.com/LineageOS-14.1-Deathly/v1awifi/ instead of n2awifi as linked in the video. This is specifically for Note Pro 12.2 instead of Tab Pro 10.1. I think everything else I followed this guide as is.
Update: I managed to unbrick my tablet by loading official rom using Odin. Make sure you use the latest version. The official Full Factory Recovery ROM. Mote you will need to load AP, BL and CSCfiles into Odin. Note that the AP file may take a while to load so be patient. Then flash the tablet and you should be set to go. How to install Lineage OS. 1/, Do not use CF-Autoroot as it does not work for all models. Best to download SuperSU and install your self. First thing you need to do is install TWRP via Odin as per video. 2/. Put SuperSU, Lineage OS and GApp nto a micro sd card and put it into tablet. The version of Gapp is x86, 7.1 and choose whichever variant of Gapp. use "full" for example 3/. Install SU using TWRP 4/. Reboot and run SuperSU. you can check if you are rooted by nstalling a root checker from the app store 5/ Turn off and go into TWRP again. this tiime install Linage OS and GApp just like shown in the rest of the video
props to you because you are clear and to the point.... also because you are actually talking, not typing on a notepad or having a heavy Indian accent. LOL
This is what i found Chainfire had the KOT49H.T520XXUANAE firmware build number running on the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 SM-T520 tablet when he created the rooting file (CF-AUto-Root) that is available in this guide. That firmware build number is one of the updates available for Android 4.4.2 KitKat software updates. You do not need to be running on the same firmware build number as him when you follow this guide. You just need to make sure that your Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 is running on Android 4.4.2 KitKat and does come with the SM-T520 model number.
Thanks a lot, appreciate the work you put in - I saw Wolfgang's web page and it was a bit sketchy on the details so I had to come here and it was useful. TWRP had some issues backing up but otherwise everthing worked fine.
This was the best tutorial for upgrading my SM-T520. Easy to follow along. Did have a couple of problems but I took care of them by wiping it many times. BTW the camera work right away once mod was finished. can't recommend this mod enough, got a new tablet now
Bro this was amazing thank you so much I love how we went through step by step and show us everything most creators send you to a website but you show us everything. Thanks again
Thanks so much. You're a life saver! I couldn't have done this without your video. My son had been asking to play a new game but my Tab pro still had Android 4.4 and it couldn't run a lot of google store apps. Thanks to you he's been able to play today :-)
SUCCESS!!! Took some unplanned reboots (disabling KNOX for example) but got there eventually. I would recommend watching the entire video before actually starting. Some things need to be done like putting SW onto the microSD card, making sure you have a microSD card installed before doing a backup, etc. THANK YOU Marcus!!!
Great Video, very clear instructions. I found hadd issues disabling KNOX, a restart sorted that. Once Installed I found I had no keyboard. Reinstalled LineageOS and Gapps, restarted and all fine. Its a bit buggy, but with persistence this works. Great Video, great knowledge and info Cheers
Very cool! Now I can download Zoom! PS: After my initial flash of the GApps, I went back to get a set with more native apps. I desperately needed the Play store as an app!! Thanks iQ Android!
Thank you for the tutorial. I was wanting to upgrade my Samsung GT-N8000 to a newer version of Android. I had watched other similar videos on RU-vid and found them to be rather confusing, but, they did help with finding the proper software I needed for my upgrade. Your tutorial was much easier to follow and substituting your software with what I had did the trick for me. My Samsung GT-N8000 is now useful again. Thank you so much.
Thank you very much for those great instructions! My only issues were that SuperSU was stuck deactivating KNOX and I had to restart the tablet and to start SuperSU again and the TWRP backup had to be done with TWRP 2.8.7.0.
Worked like a charm. Thank you so much for the tutorial!!! Hard part was figuring out the right GApps to download, but after pausing the video, I can see the zip file you got was the following: arm 7.1 pico
Thanks for the clear tutorial. I just completed the update today without a hitch and it's given the tablet a new lease on life. Lots of steps to follow but pretty straightforward. The comments have been invaluable as well especially the tip to use an older version of TWRP.
TWP version described in this video has a problem which causes reboots, i had the same problem, use an older version such as 3.0.2 which does not reboot
My man! I've had a few hickups during the installation, not any of your fault, but I am going to name them here for other people. People don't bother (like I did at first) finding the exact same LeneageOS date, the latest version (link sends you to it) works just fine. 1. Google chrome didn't like some of the downloads, so I had to do them with edge. 2. Getting the device into twrp. Push the 3 button's, and let go the power button when logo appears. Hold on vol up + home button till logo disappears. And then trwp will show. 3. error-7 in trwp (not listened to you and only swiped once to clear) so do at least 3 times swiping to clean 4. when rebooting it takes like ages (on my device) for lineageOS to start up. And then after filling in my internet pw (says no internet connection) and seems to get stuck on updating. Just let it rolll. And THERE IT IS!!!!! DAMN. STATUE FOR YOU MAN! THANKS A LOT!!!!
Currently (end of 2022) you need TWRP 3.5.0 (newer versions are larger than dedicated partition size) for the recovery partition and Magisk for rooting. When booting into TWRP recovery it only shows "recovery is not seandroid enforcing", but just wait a bit and it will continue. Tested today on SM-P600 (codename lt03wifi (old) resp. n1awifi (new), P600XXSDRI1_P600BTUDRI1_BTU = Android v5.1.1 Germany) with Lineage OS 18.1 v1.1, Odin v3.10.7, Samsung USB Driver v1.7.59.0, Magisk v25.2, GApps ARM/11/pico and it works beautifully! :)
Great clear step by step instructions. Had a bit of trouble with the tablet rebooting itself during the TWRP install (using 3.1.1-0) but 3rd time lucky :-) Can now control my sonos from the tablet as it wouldn't work with KitKat. No thanks to Samsung for in-buiit obsolecense. Many thanks to you and all the folks who developed Lineage :-)
Hi, which version of twrp you used? I am not able to get backup complete and it restarts. There is no option to uncheck the re-boot option while transferring the twrp. Appreciate your help.
@@shajiabraham2386 Other comments have mentioned using TWRP 2.8.7.0 ... for my part I was unable to get the tablet to reboot into recovery TWRP until using 2.8.7.0.
Thank you so much!!! It works like a charm and now my parents can enjoy a like-new tablet. This tutorial still works in 2021. I would appreciate if you provide a bit more information on wich files to get in your video discription! ; )
Help!!!!! Can you update/redo this video. I have have the same tablet and had to replace the battery and lost all the updates it use to have. Some of the files you say to download have been updated and not sure what files to use now since this video is over a year old. PLEASE HELP !!!!!
To be honest I wasn't expecting this to actually work! I did have the error 7 problem but i managed to fix it. Glad I discovered this video. Thanks dude!
@@KeplerJohanes there's a video on youtube showing exactly how to fix this. You'll have to extract the files, edit a file and remove a few line, archive it again and upload it to your phone and start over.
@@SoffyEstrada This is for the 10.1 inch version. You will need different files for the 12 inch. Check TWRP twrp.me/samsung/samsunggalaxytabpro122exynoswifi.html
you really saved the planet, samsung, apple and the other companies are just repeating slogans! Planned obsolescence !! Thank you very much! Work fine, with very good battery life! Installed when RU-vid was not working on KitKat 4.4.2, you save m'y money too !! Thanks!
Worked really well on the two SM-T520s I have, thanks for such a brilliant video. The only problem I had was that the tablet rebooted whilst doing backups, but I think this may be an ageing battery problem. It's made them much more responsive giving them a new lease of life.
Installed lineage, works a treat! Few issues along the way, great help from Marcus to get it working. Recommend this guy for any issues you have with your hardware.
thank you very much for this video ! my tablet SMT 520 is upgraded now and much better i hope that red cross in the batery logo is gone now but this is awesome :)
Worked perfectly - eventually! TWRP has a bit of an issue on this tablet because it thinks it is overheating and shuts down. Unfortunately it did this mid flash killing my tablet, or so I thought. Left it somewhere really cold and eventually got it to boot back into TWRP then you have to move quick. The actual ROM flash is very quick but even then the CPU temperature was reported to have risen from around 50° to nearly 80° . Put it to cool down before you flash the GAPPS package and it should be good to go. Well worth doing because KitKat 4.4 is ancient. Better battery life too.
I'm a late gamer, just stop by to give a thumb up, actually both thumbs up for this vid. Great job iQ Android! It works, it simply works. Great instructions.
Thanks! There were a few hiccups and issues along the way, but after some trial and error, I have a modernised and usable tablet that prior to this update was obsolete :)
Thank you so much for this video. This has breathed new life into my old tablet. It has made my wife very happy. Sucked that it was stuck on Android Kit Kat. Not now though. And also it has helped with the diminished battery life that it had.
Looks like my Galaxy that Marcus upgraded, notice the two black tapes on the face near the home button, to identify the location of hidden buttons. The upgrade to LinageOS worked well, much better than Android. Sadly 1 year later the hardware failed, not related to LinageOS. Yes, I would do it again.
Yooo Thx Marcus! I got Lineage installed. Now I just have to figure out how to download the OS to get Google Play because it wouldn't let me install the pico or stock version of the OS. Edit: Lol realized the tablet was a running on a 32bit chip, not a 64bit. Thx for the tutorial again.
Excellent worked in the end but had issues throughout: TWRP 3.1.1 didn't work for me but luckily saw someone else comment about using 2.8.7.0 and that was OK to a point, using 3.1.1 the tablet kept rebooting part way through the processes so used the older 2.8.7.0 and no reboot issues but had a problem when trying to upload the new files to the sd card as it wasn't showing in my available devices on my laptop so had to stick the sd card direct into the laptop to upload, then it wasn't showing the files on TWRP 2.8.7.0 but was on 3.1.1 but then couldn't fully install without it rebooting, was about to throw the tablet in the bin but went back to 2.8.7.0 and suddenly the files were showing so I uploaded lineage and then Gapps, but then mistakenly followed the final instructions on 2.8.7.0 where it says this tablets root isn't locked do I want to lock it so I said yes, big mistake tablet wouldn't reboot past the battery charge level icon but re did the whole process again, deleting all the files and reinstalled and this time said no to locking the root and all is fine, took an age to reboot at first but now boots up very quickly, play store working fine, managed to download all the apps I wanted that wouldn't with the old android. So thanks for the tutorial as it's saved me buying a cheap £160 new Android 10 tablet.
This Guide still holds up 2020, just make sure to enable developer options before doing anything. And use Samfirm to recover your original OS if you happen to soft-brick like i did. Thankyou iQ
PROBLEM: A very important problem that I encountered! I was perfectly able to use the instructions of the video to unlock the bootloader and root the device with CF-AutoRoot and afterwards I could flash TWRP 3.1.1-0 without a problem. But from then on you need TWRP to make the backup and to flash the custom ROM, however here I ran into the problem that TWRP 3.1.1-0 only keeped working for exactly 3 min and 45 seconds after which the recovery rebooted or the normal android system rebooted. With other words, it is not possible to do a backup or flash a custom ROM when your device reboots during the process. When you would flash a custom ROM and the process is interrupted halfway it will make your device unusable!!! SOLUTION: I did the steps with Odin again, but this time I tried with other TWRP versions on eu.dl.twrp.me/picassowifi/ and I found out that TWRP 3.0.2-0 didn't had this problem ( eu.dl.twrp.me/picassowifi/twrp-3.0.2-0-picassowifi.img.tar.html ). All more recent versions had the same problem or other problems.
Thank you so much, excellent instructions and great that you show all the steps necessary. Could possibly be improved with explanations of what each step actually does, but that might on the other hand make the video an hour long so... eh :-P
