Mystra is lying about "Karsite Magic" being a corruped, half-born magic. When Karsus slew Mystryl and absorbed her portfolio with his Godslaying spell, the sudden influx of power was too much for him, and killed him. When he died, his body turned into stone, and the Weave ripped apart. In this moment, Shar was able to steal a piece of the Weave for herself, which became the Shadow Weave. When Mystryl reincarnated as Mystra, she reconstructed what was left of the incomplete Weave, and blocked mortal spellcasters from casting above 9th Level spells, which became known as "Mystra's Edict". Karsus' heart had petrified into a stone that bled Whole Weave magic, which allowed spellcasters that harnessed it to cast powerful pre-edict spells. This is the *original* whole Weave, which is what Mystra is referring to as "Karsite Magic", and why she's terrified of it. When Mystra was slain by Cyric which caused the Spellplague, Mystra's Edict was temporarily lifted. However, almost no spellcasters knew above 9th level spells then, asides from a few ancient Netherese liches like Larloch.

Karsus was a genius, and an utter fool. He created the most powerful spell in history, to defeat his enemies, who FEED on magic. Had he chosen ANY OTHER god, he would have prevailed. But no. He had to chose the god of magic; he was unable to do anything to them anyway, he couldn't sustain the Weave, and in turn he couldn't sustain his very own spell. 25 INT, 6 WIS.

@@WexMajor82 Facts, Y'know the death of the magic goddess made the weave go haywire right? Then told karsus to fuck off. Its what caused all magic to fail and everyone to die. It took the reformation of the next reincarnation of mystril, mystra to fix

@@JohnDoe-xv9du It also created a huge wave of problems, the flying cities all fell (except one), the magic users got ill en masse, magical being latched on the shadow weave to survive and got corrupted. A great result.

Am I the only one who thinks Mystra is kind of an asshole? Let's not forget she sent Elminster to tell Gale essentially to off yourself to be redeemed in my eyes. Then she wants him to hand over the Crown of Karsus instead? Like damn she's doing my boy dirty here.

No, you aren't the only one. Maybe I am misremembering things, but as far as I can recall, Mystra took an interest in him since he was young (Gale was a child prodigy). And then, when he was old enough, took him as a lover. Kinda comes across as child gr**ming to me tbh.

@@yellowbeard1You know how in Divinity 2 the gods are dicks who eat your souls for more power? It's the same in DnD just over a longer period of time. The difference between a lich and a god when it comes to sustenance is that at least the lich is honest about it's desire to eat your soul.

I have different dialog with here. I think i will have good ending for Gale without his obsession of this crown. Thank god, what I've seen looks sad. Don't want this fate for Gale

@alphahunterd told him every time when he try convince me to restore the crown - that's a bad idea. I'm not supporting him with this plan. Thank, before Mistra, I told him to apologize and ask for help with orb. And he has different conversations with her, more respect and humble. She promised to help if he could bring her the crown. He agreed

If we play him as an origin character i am sure he has an "evil" ending. It will either be the same as the other characters with him siting in the throne and enthralling everyone becoming the new absolute or maybe something else special to him...

Kind of, but it is bittersweet because the goddess of magic has many chosen ones. he's more of a pet than an actual lover to her.

This really isn't true, she has multiple avatars, as a greater deity she can literally be in many places at once and fully commit and be present in those moments, if you've seen the movie Her it's the same thing@@serronserron1320

Yes if you play as Gale you get an end scene where you have the crown and another audience with Mystra. She then asks what you want and you can try to become a god, get back together or ask to be her champion.

@@someguy3104 but if you ask to go back together she tells him to “be patient” and if you say you will become a god she gets angry and it’s hinted that she kills him

Well this is an interesting development it's fascinating to see how jealous and power hungry Gale is at the core of things.... How after it's revealed that what he stole isn't her weave that what it is is actually a danger to all magic in general and thus herself... Not to mention the rest of creation after everything is consumed... But his first thought is o "h you just don't want me to get it". One could be forgiven for being suspicious that Gale truly intended to return the magic he stole to Mystra the first place... But it's clear by the way she's phrasing it that despite everything she's been giving him the benefit of the doubt.... While at the same time making it quite clear why she dumped him. He could have just trusted his goddess that she would collect him and protect him after the orb went boom and thus ending his mortal life... Which wouldn't have even been a thing if he hadn't gotten a little too greedy and ambitious.... And she hasn't just outright smited him like many perfectly reasonable deities would have for walking around with what's essentially a. live nuke in his chest. Gale is being given every chance to redeem himself.... But seems to be flubbing them all. At least astarion is honest about being a vampire... Once you confront him anyhow.

Greedy and ambition is not a bad thing, and I see nothing wrong with trying to learn how to control something the gods think is impossible. They're not infallible, and do make mistakes. I'd like to see the end of the road here, personally. I think he could manage it.

@@Adanu191 unchecked greed and ambition leads to self-destruction with significant collateral damage to any poor soul who happens to be in the vicinity along the way. The gods May indeed not be infallible but they sure as heck know a lot more than your average mortal.... A new enough not to mess around with the forbidden magic that Gale in his jealousy and hubris tried to claim. At the end of the day, Gale isn't doing what he does for mystra...or the Art...he's doing it for Gale. And he's doing it and away that's going to get an awful lot of people killed should he misstep. And quite possibly get even more people killed if he actually succeeds. Gail thinks he is a good person he tries to put out the image of being a good person. Gale is deceiving himself.

Id take Bhaal over Mystra sure Bhaal is evil but you know what your getting. Mystra is a manipulatior and cares nothing for her worshippers. Worse than Shar even tbh

did anyone else notice how the quality of this scene is a little off? Some of the content in act 3 is a bit jarring when you compare it to the stuff we had in act 1. Don't get me wrong, act 3 is a 9/10 imo, filled to the brim with amazing content and a lot of it IS finished and polished, but then you get stuff like this scene, it feels noticably cheaper/rushed.

@@MrAkeron Yeah, that is a screw-up on Mystra's part. Killing the Absolute too soon makes everyone infected with the tadpoles - those "True Souls" - turn into Illithids. And while there's no Elder Brain to control them, they still have their hunger for brains and mind control. Maybe she didn't know that'd happen, but it's a costly mistake.

An opinion many would agree with and understand but think of it this way; unlike in our world where (depending on your beliefs) gods don’t ever take a direct approach, in the Forgotten Realms the gods have a vested interest in maintaining order over chaos because their lives and fates are intrinsically tied to the fate of the world. They kinda have to step in when things get dire and things are certainly dire.

@@JenocidalTendencies I think they're trying to force "My God" thinking on a world where EVERYONE'S God is just as real...look at our own world for example. We actually have multitudes of deities....but obviously "those other" people's gods aren't real (for example).

1. Vlaakith isn't a god 2. you don't actually meet Myrkul, only an avatar 3. the dream guardian isn't a god 4. Shar and Mystra are only met if you either A. have Shadowheart and Gale in your party and do their companion quest or B. you're playing AS Shadowheart or Gale.
