Again, wonderful! It clearly shows why every single former signalman I knew had back problems by the time they retired! What a hardy and friendly bunch they were. Incidentally, all the staff at Galway were very friendly. I was once given the special hook end of a shunter’s pole that was reputed to have been used by a relative working at Galway! I still have it! Best wishes, Rob
Great video. Galway box looks as big if not bigger than Mullingar. A load of levers in both! The video would be 1994 at the latest as that was when the TPO finished. I saw one of those carriages at the sidings at Connolly in Dec 1994.
Excellent footage. Was the signal man learning the frame in the video? He kept going for levers that were locked. And the foot up on the lever to get a better swing. I don't think I was ever in a signal cabin that that practice didn't happen! I did it once in Bewdley North box on the Severn Valley, I was almost ran out of the place!
The TPO and GSV appear to be coupled to the Mk ll set. Is this correct, and if so, how do they couple? (Mk ii: buckeye couplers, and the older stock have screw shackles).
