What's the Gambler 500? It defies conventional categorization. We hesitate to use the word “race” in describing it, as the preferred nomenclature is “rally.” The event’s taglines are “fun is greater than rules” and “don’t be a dick.” We think those are pretty self-explanatory. No, the Gambler 500 isn’t a cosplay event like the Mad Max-themed Wasteland Weekend, nor is it a balls-to-the wall adrenaline dump like the Baja 1000, nor some hackneyed demolition derby where cars and property are intentionally destroyed and abandoned. This is an exercise in automotive adventure. So what do two Crown Vics, a ’70s Javelin, a ’90s Mustang, and a “boat car” have in common? They all participated in the 2018 Gambler 500 race. We brought together teams from Noveske, Sig Sauer, and Salient Arms to see how their vehicular selections held up traversing the back roads of rural Oregon. See how things ended up and which team went home with bragging rights.

Id love to take the amc javelin to a junkyard and put in a dana 44 in front a 60 in back both on leaf springs, rip a LS motor out of pick a GM vehicle and then from their it's check the wiring, the frame, and roll cage it. Maybe $2500 total in parts (if you don't know somebody, $0 If you do) and then go again next year.

Please ignore if this comes up later, but that javelin clearly has a blown head gasket. Look at the puddle on top of the radiator when they have the power stearin issue. Brown as mud. Coolant+oil is a no bueno combination.

I ran the gambler in a Dodge Ram 50 a few years ago with the Mitsubishi 2.4L. Ended up loosing all compression in cyl 4, when I pulled the head later it was warped up like 8mm at the back compared to the front. Godbless

If anyone is considering running the gambler in a RWD vehicle though, my best tip for ya is just to weld the rear diff. I would say 90% of the stuck I have seen are due to an open rear diff. It takes 30 mins and will get you out of some really shit situations OR. People stack $1200 with of tyres on a $500 car with an open diff and spin tyres all day anyways. I got sick times with a welded diff and 6 year old general grabbers (with no tread) even though I lost all gears past second. Running the thing hard in second for two days @ 7k RPM was probably what killed my venerable 4G lmao.

Hey guys. My friend and I are wanting to participate in the Gambler 500. We've been on their website and there's not much information on starting locations or if there's any type of registration process. Can you help me out with dome info? Only information I could find on location was North Klamath County and thats it. No actual information.

Demo derby's are stupid, you spend WAY more than you would a gambler car and you get one or 2 uses out of it. You can daily drive a gambler car and you can gamble it as many times as you want
