Big thanks to EllaSketch :). In this video, you'll design your own 2D video game character. Learn everything from conceptualising your creature with shape language, to tools, layers and the free software Krita. Try out another tutorial and learn to animate in GameMaker: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Sp0TXl6a0Ck.html Follow Ella: - instagram.com/_ellasketch/ - ru-vid.com/show-UCm-OUaymjsMMKjUm6ZgkDZg Free Krita download: krita.org/en/download/krita-desktop/ Free GameMaker download: opr.as/DownloadGM-YT
It's a good tutorial, short and well explained (plus choosing the open source option instead of Photoshop make it accessible for most). I'm not using GameMaker but i really appreciate the contents uploaded these last months. It's interesting and focused on many different aspects of video game development.
I wasn't expecting art tutorials, this is a pleasant surprise. I hope there will be more on things such as drawing your own tilesets for a platformer or for an RPG top down view. I do prefer hand drawn digital art than pixel art. I feel it is very attractive and makes you want to play the game.
Hi :). I watched both videos with this little monster. Hoping someone is still around to answer a question. I want to draw pics and import them. I see you moving individual parts of the monster, how do you select those individual parts. Or how do you separate them into layers so you can move them around easily. Link a vid? I appreciate any answers :)
Each individual part was created on a separate layer, allowing you to edit, move, and transform specific parts of the character without affecting other layers. So, with this monster, everything was made on separate layers from the beginning. To break down already existing images you import into Krita, you have to use the selection tool (L); select the part you want to separate, and then right-click and select "Cut Selection to a New Layer." Your image will be broken down into layers which you can edit, move, and transform. I hope I answered your question. :)
@@ellasketch wow hi :). These two vids has been most helpful getting started. So cool you took the time to answer thank you! I got that far after paying close attention to the vids. When I my scans into layers and they look like I should be able to animate, I get a thing that says “not pixels present.” Ideas? You’re the best!
@@RickCrabtree oh, no problem! I'm glad they were useful to you :) Perhaps you're on the wrong layer? So when you clicked to move it, there were no pixels on that place. Just a thought, not 100% sure
@@Niko_3D I actually find 8/16 pixel sprites to be much harder than higher resolution sprites. Being able to downscale art to 8/16 or just doing pixel art at low resolution seems like a totally different skillset than normal art.
