Ian Beattie is such a nice man. Shows what a great actor he is. His vocal and physical characteristics in the show are so different from how he is outside of the show. He truly brings Meryn Trant to life through fantastic acting.

Totally hate Meryn Trant, totally love Barristan Selmy, totally feel for Lancel. Which means these are 3 of the finest actors.

Great panel. All three of these remarkable actors are equally engaging as speakers. So intelligent. I really feel bad for Ian McElhinney that the show-runners didn't find a better way to break it up to him - that Ser Barristan is offed. I didn't like that scene one bit, though I agree it is better than some cheesy 'Ser Barristan is invincible Bruce Lee or *cough* Dorne' type scene. Ian Beattie is a charmer. He goes to great pains to let everyone know how, as a person he was horrified by what his character had to do to the point he wept in the bathroom (!), and yet equally grateful for the opportunity to do it... To shine as an actor (and he did, even though he is very humble about it). Plus he is so genuinely a fan of the show and the books. Thanks for posting this, love your interviews.

I wanted to see Barristan Selmy lead the cavalry charge against the Yunkai in the most epic fashion, but nope, shanked by random harpys with no skills as swordsmen, in an alley with no armor on for some reason. And we need Dany to be angry about it for one episode and kill random meereen noblemen. For one episode; and forget about him.

+Travis Lassa I think his death fits perfectly with the ASOIAF universe. It's place where Drogo dies of infection and the Red Viper gets his head squashed. Also an agining knight being outnumbered is actually more realistic than what you get in your cliched fantasy where a named characters can survive any encounters with randoms

baddogonline I read the books, I don't think even the most diehard purists would consider putting Tyrion in charge of Meereen instead of clowning around with Penny a bad move.

I thought it was a travesty that they killed off barristan, it was a huge disappointment to me because I was excited to see the kingbreaker chapter acted out in the show

+Marcos Barrera I get why they did it, they wanted to bring Tyrion in early and have him lead Meereen instead of Barristan, but I would have liked them both there, with Barristan handling the military and Tyrion the civilian politics, and they would get to have scenes together which would have been great.

I'm going to make a guess here and say Winds of Winter is going to come out soon before the show. The show is pushed back to April when it's usually in March... and putting the show out before the book would piss off the readers. So hopefully in a couple months the book will be released

It was a shame they killed off Barristan. I like to think there was some reasoning behind it at least, perhaps it was just a dead-end resulting from their divergence from the books.

Mainly budget and story reasons. Knowing how many new characters were introduced in season 5 and 6, they just had to get rid of some of the old ones. Tyrion came to Mereen so they decided to "replace" Barristan with him, because there probably wasn't enough story and budget for both.

They really shouldn't have killed off Ser Barristan. I am getting the feeling that the writers are trying to finish the series quicker rather than make it great.

They are making it into a cliche , GRRM makes everyone both good and bad with flaws yet jon snow is flawless nearly in GoT just like all the rest of the Starks which I hate and they fucked up dorne

I really like to think Syrio picked up a sword and fought off all the guards except for Meryn, who cowardly ran away and let Forel escape, without telling anybody about it ;) :D

Syrio is not dead. When the scene changes and Arya is leaving, you hear a _steel_ sword hit the ground. Syrio knocked his ass out with a wooden sword and transformed back into whatever face he pleased, probably Jaqen. SO THERE!
