Cersei Lannister and Olenna Tyrell speak about Loras Tyrell and the Sparrows. Game of Thrones S05E06 "Kill the boy" DISCLAIMER: I do not own any footage or audio. All rights goes to HBO (Home Box Office)
I can imagine in afterlife, Tywin make a neverending lecture to Cersei and Jaime as their punishment like: "I can't believe both of you are responsible for The War of 5 Kings because you two are producing inbreed! Not once, not twice but thrice!" "So, Ned Stark was right the whole time! I'm so embarrased to see my family legacy ruined because of you two!" "That dwarf Tyrion is still alive and he's the tallest Lannister now!" "You, Jaime, is this the reason why you don't marry? Because you're in love with your twin? What is wrong with you?" "And, Cersei. Where do I even begin? Fine! You are spoiled princess who's been dreaming for a long time and only likes to drink wine! Power is power? No, my dumb daughter! You need knowledge to gain power! That's why I was always studying in every aspect to learn every enemy and their history. All of this happened because of a properchy that haunt you since you were a child that a younger woman will defeat you? And one more thing, you are not a good mother because you were spoiling Joffrey too much and you forgot your 2 other children!"
@@Max_Da_G Tywin's sister told him that but Tywin didn't want to accept it. Tywin wanted to believe his "golden twins" were his true heirs and Tyrion was just a little misshapen monster. He did not want to believe Tyrion was his true heir and the golden twins were a disaster in the making.
@@ComradeSlice To be fair, Jamie wasn't a disaster in the making. He had decency and fairness, which unfortunately were missed due to him being also fairly arrogant regarding his fighting abilities and refusing to disclose reasons for some of the more controversial things he had done. But Cersei indeed was. An arrogant smug woman that learnt some tricks of trade, but had no idea when and how to use them.
Cersei is so inept. Tywin used this intimidation tactic 1:10 only on people over whom he had full dominance, he never used it on any of his rivals. Tywin himself spoke charismatically to Olenna because he understood full well that she herself is a powerful woman. Lannisters might be stronger than Tyrells, but it's not a house the Lannisters can defeat without a serious cost.
@@madzerincognito9732 Yes, he was doing it precisely in Tyrion's presence to show how little importance Tyrion has and how Tywin holds all the power. It's a classic intimidation tactic. Very efficient when used correctly but very pathetic when used incorrectly 1:09
I always took it as he was drafting the order to put Loras in the Kingsguard - he made the threat of it, then basically picked up the quill again and asked "should I make the appointment" or something to that effect, to which Ollena took the quill, complimented him for actually living up to his reputation, and broke it to signify she was on board
"The famously tart-tongued Queen of Thorns." "And the famous tart, Queen Cersei." You're never going to win in a verbal sparring match with Olenna, Cersei. You might throw a decent burn every now and then but she throws back wildfire.
I'm pretty sure it's "tart" because it (tart) has multiple meanings; in addition to the way that Olenna used it(sexually provocative or "slutty") it can also mean sharp tongued or flamboyant, sarcastic.
She picked up the writing or pretending to write tactic from Tywin. He's shown multiple times writing or do something else to show the person he's speaking to is barely worth his attention as a way of displaying dominance and of course Cersei thinks of herself as "Tywin with teats". Neat little detail.
Even better, olenna knew about that bullshit already. And she was right, cersei had nothing important to write, cersei even stopped when olenna left the room.
Cersei’s mistake was thinking she, the Queen mother, had the same power/importance as the hand of the king. Olenna saw right through that fake display of power.
and Tywin was always right about Cersei -- he didn't disrespect her because she's a woman. In fact, Tywin never showed disrespect to women -- he refused to allow Joffrey to humiliate Sansa, he enjoyed Arya's company and treated her with more respect than any of the other men in the kingdom. He disrespected Cersei because she thinks she's smarter than she is. And right here.. . she is so sure she knows what will happen. She knows nothing.
Yeah and that’s what makes it funny. Tywin legitimately had important things to write down and was drafting/passing legislation because he was actually smart and had responsibilities. All Cersei took way from that was a tactic that Olenna (who also is smart) saw right through. Tywin was right about his daughter, she always thought she was smarter than she really was.
Lady Olenna gave her the 'that's why I'm the one who killed your son, stupid ass bitch' look at the end when Cersei thought she'd won the argument. Lol.
@@bt3376 You say that like Cersei’s bloodline is still alive 😂😂 She hates Tyrion so she wouldn’t even care that he was alive 😂😂 I love how this comment mirrors Cersei’s tunnel vision, thinking she one upped someone
Cersei is using a quill to write but she never actually dips it in ink apart from the ending. She actually was only pretending to write cause she wants to be like Tywin.
That is why Cersei could never outright kill Tyrion. Tyrion was more like Tywin than any of them. Tywin hated Tyrion b/c he saw himself in a drunk whoring dwarf.
Cersei was a singularly dangerous character in Game of Thrones -- Smart and clever enough to be a serious threat, but shortsighted and foolish enough to see her plans routinely blow up in her own face.
@@scottw8737 she was clever and some what new where she stood. But like her father said she thinks she far smarter than she is. She thinks things will just go her way. At far worse she acts out of emotional impulse for any slight.
Olenna didn’t pay back shit. She dealt the first blow (Joffrey) and Cersei clapped back so hard that Olenna lost her entire family. She was even caught alive, and only spared a gruesome end because it was Jaimie who found her.
@@klown839 Cersei's plan blew up in her face though. She was arrested and had to do the walk of shame thanks to the very same religion fanatics she empowered. Her kids also will all die (golden veils) meanwhile last we heard, Loras Tyrell is still alive. House Tyrell may pull through after all, but in the books, even Tyrion could die. The Lannisters are likely doomed, mainly thanks to Cersei.
I do like the arc of this scene. Cersei "play acting" Tywin even down to his mannerisms but failing badly in even understanding the short sighted self destructive approach of her actions. Her writing obviously just to show off was the perfect look back to Tywin. With one move she lost close to half of her military support and made an enemy out of her most important ally. Cersei was dangerous like a thug is. Cruel and able to do anything but at the same time too stupid to lead anyone or anything. She would have been a great master of spies with Tyrion as political leader.
Cersei is so blinded by her desperation to somehow "protect Tommen" from Margaery that she thinks House Lannister can somehow stand on its own. She makes enemies out of allies and has a habit of turning her greatest assets into her enemy's assets.
1:09 Olenna opens the sparring match with brutal uppercut to gain advantage right out of the gates by tricking Cersei into forgetting about the writing charade by calling her a Tart and proving that she was right that Cersei was faking while also delivering a savage burn about Cersei’s well known promiscuity 😂😂
The quote Olenna told Cersei about Tywin than they should work with each other rather than destroy is right. Cersei was so brutal and evil that it was impossible for her to rule for a long time without being killed at some point, like the mad king was
Cersei is trying to play at a much higher level than she's capable of. The only thing she has are resources. She doesn't have the skill or strategic understanding to properly deploy them.
"House Lannister has no rival" I think Tywin might have said the same in that situation. But the difference is that Tywin acted in logic based on reality while Cersei acted with emotions though she can grasp the reality. She did learn her father's skills to handle people perfectly but she missed many things behind that.
@@TeeAiDee tywin wasnt stupid tyrell was rich in harvest manpower and wealth sure the lanister have the advantage in military power but even tywin admited that the tyrell probally had more money.
Well the only people who hate them are, most of the north, the whole of Dornne, the reach, the Erie, the Dragon Queen, Tyrion, most of the people in Kimgslanding, the faith militen, the high sparrow, and every single pesent in Westoros. So..... I guess a few people dislike them.
She said "House Lannister has no rival" - Much different meaning than no enemies. In Season 1 she even says "Everyone who is not us is our enemy." ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yXezu8yxEn8.html
You think you can smell it from 5 miles I can smell the bullshit from KL across a screen God is Olenna absolutely amazing she and Varys, Littlefinger and Tyrion and are just beautiful
I loved her pathetic attempt to emulate her father at 1:09. When Tywin did it, it meant something. When she does it, it makes her look childish, petty, and foolish.
Only Diana Rigg could get away with saying to Natalie Dormer “get some rest dear you look appalling” That said, there are little cues of fatigue in her voice and the way she is carrying herself that were clear choices. Margaery is as sharp as ever but we did have to bring in the ringer for this one. 🥰
@@pyromaniac709Have you seen pictures of Diana Rigg as a young woman? I’d say she was about as good-looking as Natalie Dormer herself. Not only that, her character is particularly gutsy so that statement that could be harsh is not inappropriately harsh coming from her xD. You just take her as “yeah she’s probably right”
@@MalloryNewcomb yes and it's also the familiarity with which a mother/grandmother will speak with a daughter. No male family member could have gotten away with saying that to her.
The difference between Cersei and Tywin is that he would’ve kept on working and not faked it until ollenna left because he was confident in his decisions and wasn’t gloating over pulling one on olenna tyrell
😂 😂 I love this part. When Cersei Try to be charismatic when she writ nothing. that's show us how Tywin was smart and he rely was wraiting somthing imbortant. when cersei just playing.. Tywin was right when he said" you are not smart as you think you are"
@@fatemakadhimahmed576 English is not my mother tongue. I am trying to learn it now. And through your account name, I can say that you are an Arab, just like me😑
0:10 me predicting the fate of season 8 when they announced it was the final season have only 6 episodes and there were still so many major storylines to wrap up
Every time Tywin wrote something they always made an effort to show how Tywin was genuinely writing. So this is how I know that Cersei is imitating her father lol.
The moment Cersei lost was when at the “As I said” line. It showed she was losing her grip on the conversation and was on the defensive. The tone of voice said it all, how she was trying desperately to project authority.
Yes. Cersei said that she always listened to him. But she failed to see that he put his feelings aside for the better of his house. Without Tyrells House Lannister would crumble into nothing long ago.
Better yet, Tywin knew who he could screw with and who he couldn’t. Anyone beneath him got the treatment of him doing something else as they tried to get a conversation from him. But Olenna, a fellow equal in the gift of gab and necessary ally, wasn’t one to be put in her place. She was an equal player on the negotiating table, requiring the respect and caution required. It was how Tywin allowed jabs at him during the verbal skirmish and still win. Cersei, on the other hand, didn’t seem to get the memo that she was dealing with a strategic powerhouse….or rather several. The one person she shouldn’t have treated as lesser on the negotiating table and she did it without a second thought, showing her narcissistic view. Of course that was after she started picking a fight with the Tyrells in the open where as Tywin did so with subterfuge.
This scene is interesting when you look at it from the perspective of what each Lannister child received from their father Tywin. Jaime got his martial skill, Tyrion his wit and intelligence, and Cersei his ruthlessness. These things together made Tywin an apt politician and player of the game, yet apart? Well it becomes rather clear through Cersei how ruthlessness alone isn’t what made Tywin as successful as he was.
Cersei was always so inept when it came to the zealouts that she tried to weaponize for her own ends. Useful tip: Never create a weapon that you cannot control or disable.
Cersei thought she was so clever arming the sparrows and setting them on the Tyrells...but its so satisfying watching it all backfire when they start looking into her shit😂
I understand that season 8 had many dialogue and plot issues. But like.... how did King's Landing become a desert. Look at all the trees around it here. In season 7 the trees weren't there either but at least there was grass when the Unsullied assembled outside the walls. In 8 there were no trees, not even stumps. So you can't even argue they chopped them down for firewood for the Winter or to keep the trees back so enemies can't use then for cover. Very odd.
Look, best I got is that Drogon was chasing butterflies just before Missandei’s beheading, maybe he got carried away? He is a behemoth after all I agree, stupid continuity errors by Dumb and Dumber.
Olenna: I want loras released. Tywin: .... continues writing... Olenna: I said . Tywin: I heard what you said. You want what I want. A mutual understanding of circumstance. You want loras. Hiuse tyrell provides the throne with wheat and men plenty enough for the campaign amd are dependent upon them. The faith dictates their affairs as they see fit. As such affairs interfere with iur happy alliance.. it is in our best shared interests that he be released. Signed... hand of the King.. *puts the pen down*... Would you like me to add anything else Lady Olenna... (Cersi could have pretended to be ally and friend)
Idiotic choice? She is a way more interesting & complex Villain than most of The one from The Show. Definetely The most well acted and also well-written (This one for The first 6-7 seasons). She is understimated by others but also she overstimated herself and This itself makes an affascinatinh dualism that lead to unpredictable actions, choice & more from her. You don’t know what she might do and it makes you have some pre-thinking and critics (clapping for her, think what she will do might be cool, rolling The eyes thinking that it might be a stupid thing) and then she surprise you by either doing the opposite of what you thought or did exactly what you had in mind but bigger and with a plot-twist/easter egg that leaves you mouthgaping.
@@crackshipsarelifeI am pretty sure Tywin dies in the books. (I'm only in book 3) but they could have done things slower and had that conversation with Olena. D&D were the worst thing to ever happen to GoT.
Hahahaha! I just realized that Olenna had to know Cersei wasn’t writing anything from the start, because Cersei didn’t have any wax melting to actually seal the letter.
@@looneyburgmusic maybe that was another one of the gates to enter the city, remember the city is huge and has many gates, also I think having crops and trees around the city makes more sense to feed it's habitants
@@carlosg2541 Except you can see the entire city in one shot - it's got water around one side, then all forest. We should have been able to see the desert as well.
Interestingly, Cersei is quick to accuse Olenna of making underhanded comments, which were actually very blunt, Then she herself does exactly that; "House Lannister has no rivals." What she's actually saying here, is that she doesn't see their house as being challenging enough to consider them as a valid rival. Notice, Olenna picks up on it, doesn't say another word, And instead, almost decides right then and there to plot her revenge on Cersei. Besides, if Cersei doesn't see her as a threat, she will never suspect it. Sure enough, she doesn't.
Of all the tangents that GoT took, I hate what they did with Loras the most. There was no reason to make the church persecutingly homophobic and have Loras arrested and tortured for it.
Imagine if _Dynasty's_ Joan Collins and Stephanie Beecham joined the show as rival dynastic matriarchs up against Diana Rigg. Olenna even has the shoulder pads.
Although Cersei made this happen olenna is basically telling her 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend'. Cersei thinks the faith are her allies but olena can smell it 5 mile away that they will eventually betray and sure enough......
Even as recent as season6-7 the stories of the other dead characters had an impact on the story. Now I'm season8 no one remembers littlefinger anymore...
Cersei behaves like a girl, and I don't think we can expect anything else, she grew up as part of one of the most powerful and rich families in Westeros, unlike her brothers, she has no idea what difficulties are, always protected by his father and his last name. Cersei tries hard to be smart, but she really has no idea how to act, she has a power that was given to her just for being her, but she doesn't have the ability to use it to her advantage and ends up hurting herself. . . She doesn't tolerate frustration when her plans go awry, she doesn't want to take the consequences of her actions because that's exactly how she grew up and was raised. Damn spectacular character, I love you Cersei.
