An epic scene from HBO's Game of Thrones Season 2 Episode 1. Robb Stark confronts an arrogant and cocky Jaime Lannister only to reveal his true weakness, A Direwolf.
"I trust them with my life, just not yours" "You insult yourself kingslayer" "You've been defeated by a boy, you're held captive by a boy, perhaps you'll be killed by a boy" "No... but he's starting to know me" "It's better than 3 defeats" Robb was simply perfect
@@MagisterVeritas Yeah, because here he is tied and chained. He is terrified here because he can't do anything against the giant wolf meters away. In the Battle of Highgarden even after seeing the might of the dragons and seeing an army burn to death he still tried attacking Daenerys because of his foolish bravery 😂.
Such a show! Gréat writing, directing, amazing symbolism in the scenes, magnificent casting and acting.... All of it... and so much more! all down to 'She is muh kween"... how the mighty have fallen.
This is by far one of the best shot and most powerful scenes in the entire series. Even though I love Jaime, I really enjoyed him getting his threats thrown back in his face. He's a much better person now, but that doesn't eliminate the horrors he committed before. Oh Grey Wind...how I miss you.
Jaime was always a great person and character, dude sacrificed his honor to save millions of peasants.... I'm not entirely sure Ned Stark would have been able to slay the mad king given Jaime's pre-existing conditions. This scene is absolute brilliance. Two of the strongest characters who are both trying to be "good" converse over a war that is inherently evil, and it's brilliant
@@Ekleaz read the books, Jaime is portrayed as being horrible due to perspective writing / ignorance by the reader + mysterious motives and sarcastic demeaner.... you don't get a good look at the world from his pov until book 3 or 4 ( I think it was storm of swords) but dude he's about as morally straight as ned stark or the hound. Circumstances force decent people to do indecent things in asoiaf. When he tries to kill bran in the first chapter/episode... it's either kill one boy, or kill his sister, all three of her kids, himself and quite possibly doom his father and brother to roberts wrath as well. I think we'd all choose to kill a stranger (even an 11-year old boy) over sacrificing our entire known family.
@@soccermtb13 Dude I've read all the books and none of that came about until the mighty lions was HUMBLED by getting his hand chopped off. He was a cocky dick until life came and busted his ass with karma
Man, Robb was such a boss! Those comebacks man, One of the few people to say something to the smug Lannisters that they couldn't rebuttal, granted, it is Jaime, who isn't the sharpest in his family, but still, it's great. One of my favorite scenes.
Jaime has the sharpest tongue of any Lannister. Once he lost his hand, it became even sharper. His book chapters wherein he's sent on diplomatic missions are some of the best in the series. ... he said, on an 8-year-old comment. Holy shit.
@@zafferung4440 Robb just led his men into battle where he defeated Jaime’a forces;he’s brave enough. Here he never gets violent nor does he even yell when Jaime’s saying his smart comments. He just responds with witty rebuttals of his own.
@@zafferung4440 My regret in this scene is we didn’t get to see how Lannister soiled himself. But he knew Robb had gotten the better of him on a number of fronts.
This is honestly my favorite Robb Stark scene. His confidence is so perfect, it's literally like a wolf looking down at what's supposed to be a lion yet right now is just a little rabbit.
When Jaime learns Robb has married Jeyne/Talisa from Roose Bolton , Jaime feels sad for Robb ( Won on the battlefield, lost in the bed chamber Poor fool). He knew how great a Military commander Robb was. He sensed Robb would die for this Folly and then Red Wedding happened.
Two of the best characters here; Robb has such a tragic arc, although early on it is so satisfying to see him go from victory to victory on the battlefield, using ingenious war tactics; Jaime has an incredible arc as well, where he learns what it is to be powerless and becomes more empathetic as a result. Some of the courtier characters like Margaery and Littlefinger are also lots of fun, but they never have to face a sword in their face for all the shit they do, unlike these two.
I love this scene because it's the first reveal of how HUGE and menacing the dire wolves have grown to be. While at the same time showing Robb at his strongest point. I also like the fact that he scares Jamie shitless with Grey Wind!
@@rozz_synthclair too bad. I still like the new jamie but I also liked him before. My favorite scene off is when he attacked ned stark in the middle of the street in season 1
As a fan who's read all the books I gotta say I'm so glad their making the Direwolves grow to their proper size. When I first saw this scene I couldn't help but grin. so awesome. Their doing a great job sticking with the books, there are some changes of course but nothing to major.
I love the little nod Grey Wind gives Robb before he looks at Jaime 1:29 Sniffing his feet like "Oh its my owner" It really gives character to the Wolves and I love it.
Oh my god, this scene is beyond amazing. The feelings, the dialogue, the tension, the musics, the actors, the storytelling. Everything is great about this scene. By far, one of the best scenes of entire show.
Hell yeah, this scene made Robb one of my favorite characters. Here he proves that he can be very intimidating against someone he sees as an enemy. And also Robb proves that he is very smart. He quickly connected all the events by that point, the "fall" of Bran from that tower, the execution of his father for "treason" and the reason behind Stannis claim of the throne. And that he is a capable leader and tactic since he had no experience of war before the one he started and yet he managed to win three battles in a row He clearly is the finest image of Ned Stark
"You insult yourself Kingslayer. You've been defeated by a boy. Held captive by a boy. Perhaps you'll be killed by boy?" Gods the dialogue was so good in the earlier seasons!
I love the moment when we can no longer see Robb but his voice still hangs powerfully over the scene. We've got Greywind's pov, who is his other half...and Robb's voice, so effective.
From the wiki: "In Season 2, real wolves were used to portray the adolescent direwolves. Using a variety of camera tricks and techniques, the shots were augmented to make the wolves appear larger, and then composited with the background and actors for the final shots. The result is that in Season 2 the direwolves are played by real-life wolves that have been super-sized in post-production."
so true. The Kingslayer might not fear death, but as a carbon-based lifeform there's no such thing as a not flinching when a massive predator bares its teeth in your face. This was the best scene in the episode. "It's better than three defeats" was the best line of the episode.
Such a good scene. Love Jamie as a character, but Robb is my absolute favorite. This scene is so masterfully crafted. Jamie beats everyone, both at fighting and at trading verbal barbs. Here, he’s been beaten in combat, taken prisoner, and Robb even beats him mentally here. Also, one of the ONLY times where Jamie was legitimately scared. He’s easily one of the bravest people we see in GoT, runs headlong at a dragon to kill Dany, puts his life on the line to save brienne, loses his hand for it, even tries to fight his captors with his bad hand, while in the mud. And of course, had the bravery to kill his own king to prevent the death of every person in Kings Landing. But a dire wolf about to eat your face when your chained up and defenseless? He cracks, and though he’s not shittjng his pants and crying, we see through body language that he is trying his BEST not to lose his shit right there.
The only time I saw Jamie so frightened was when he saw the army of Dothraki. It took a whole army of Dothraki and a Dragon to get him as frightened as when he saw a direwolf
They killed Robb and his wolf far too soon in the series. It was powerfully and memorably done. Every now and then the Red Wedding makes an appearance in my nightmares - but I wanted more of him.
Robb was one of my absolute favs &’ honestly had so much potential. It was his first war &’ he had already been crowned King in the north &’ was about to win this war. Unfortunately for him, love became the death of duty. If he really wanted to, the young wolf could’ve conquered the 7 Kingdoms.
When Jamie realized how dangerous the Starks truly were. Robb matches Jamie’s quips tit for tat, and then Grey Wind comes in… The Lannisters may call themselves Lions but it’s just a sigil. Gold is their one and only strength. Gold and no limits. But the Starks… the starks ARE wolves. And all men should fear wolves.
Every time Greywind is around and moving like Robb wanted makes me think Robb just wargs into his direwolf to do his bidding while still conscious. Like he uses this power to attack Greatjon when he draws his sword and here to intimidate Jaime. Greywind moves exactly like a extension of himself.
Robb should have been more serious about Jaime. He should have told the Lannisters that they had X amount of time to return both Sansa and Arya or he would kill Jaime. If they didn't take him seriously the first time, he sends them a part of Jaime's body ( a hand or ear, etc) as a final warning. If they continued to stall, he realizes they weren't going to comply regardless and he sends them Jaime's head.
then the lannisters could send Sansa and Arya(cuz they think they also had her) in pieces as well. Then the head. Theyre girls too so if the lannisters want to torture then u know what men can do to girls
Robb was the best Stark hands down... he had undefeatable strategy and wit sharper than Tyrion Lannister's....his rage made even the most strong men quiver..... his only weakness was love... just like Ned's was honor.... and Rickon's was innocence.... and Caitlyn's was compassion and desperation....
In the novels, it is shown that Robb Stark had a telepathic connection with Grey Wind and would follow commands even without Robb uttering a single word.
In the books, Jamie fought bravely before capture in the battle of Whispering woods. In the thick of the battle, when he recognized that he was outsmarted and ambushed, and the battle was lost. Jamie rallied the troops around him, while screaming Robb's name cut his way through stark banners to get to robb
In this scene, show-Robb got more closure than book-Robb ever did. Book-Robb died (spoilers) believing he was rebelling against Robert Baratheon's heir, not a Lannister bastard.
He still crossed the line in killing an innocent child. Someone in that same situation who isn't evil would try any number of ways to get out of that situation, such as try to bribe him, or even just threaten him. Also Bran is only 10, and his word against the word of Jaime and Cersei wouldn't mean much, especially if Jaime had've asked someone like Tyrion or Sandor to give him him an alibi, which they would have done. But instead he kills an innocent child, which cannot ever be excused
In a Variant Universe, the white book would say: Ser Jaime Lannister, considered to be the greatest sword of his age, he was defeated, captured, and killed by a boy and his wolf."
I wish they milked more moments of Rob and Greywolf in the series before the red wedding. There was so much more potential for action, strategy and gore from the Norths victories but they wrapped it up so fast...
It’s because during the early seasons the budget was no where near as high so all the battles would happen off screen, if only they had the same budget as they did in season 6-8. Only positive that it made it more dialogue/political central, unlike the later seasons which was more about the spectacle. I think they still could’ve interwoven it well if they had 1-2 big battles on screen during Robs reign.
I love the books. I am almost half way done with A Dance with Dragons. The only thing that utterly pissed me off was how Robb Stark was killed off. Other than that, I think the books are amazing.
Robb is not a POV character in Clash of Kings, nor is Jaime. There is no proof that Jaime was NOT interrogated by Robb. As many people have pointed out since the very first ep of GoT, you "CANNOT" have a page-by-page transition of a book to a show. People were pissed when we saw the arguments between Varys and Little Finger, because "it wasnt in the books." When you have a book that ONLY shows parts from a few peoples POV, your not seeing everything :/
At least there is the benefit that other characters begin to step up and become good, decent people, even as others fall or fail. The fact that Jaime and Brienne become so damn awesome makes me happy.
The first scene in GOT that taught me everyone’s pretty tough until there’s an angry direwolf in their face…actually I take that back I forgot when Nymeria bit Joffrey.
There are good intentions and bad intentions,l also you cant say Joffrey and Ramsay were not evil. Also selfish acts to make only your life better not caring if you destroy others in the road is evil. Lying and manipulatuion is evil too.
