You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - the most famous of which is "never face the Dothraki in an open field," - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go in against a Clegane when death is on the line!"
Have you guys seen this (from around September 2017 when Princess Bride was coming up on it's 30th (!) anniversary): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z4e3PO1SmjE.html Filled with famous people geeking out and quoting lines from the movie. Jake Gyllenhaal's impression of "Valerie" is sublime.
When N & S said some nice, hopeful things about Robb Stark just before the Red Wedding, I could almost hear thousands of us smiling, crying and facepalming all at the same time.
I went "Oh no...". But he was one of my favourites too, I really liked him in the book and the series. And I found out that knowing what's going to happen and really seeing it makes a difference. 😂
Remember, Oberyn wasn't really there to save Tyrion. He wasn't even there just to kill The Mountain. He wanted to prove that Tywin had ordered his Sister's and her children's deaths so he could exact justice on him. He needed the mountain to confess before he died or he would never have the proof he desperately needed.
That character definitely made an impression. I don't think the actor Pedro Pasquale was given enough credit for the incredible job he did bringing that character to life with such little screen time. I cant think of any one in anything I've watch that I've been so invested in in such a short time. I was heartbroken for his death. Mostly because it was the mountain that did it. I do hope Dorn will get its revenge later on down the road.
Yeah in the books Tywin lies to them and says that it was this guy named Amory Lorch (the guy that killed Yoren in season 2) who killed Elia and her children. In reality the guy only killed Elia’s daughter, who he stabbed like a dozen times so he’s just as much a monster as the mountain
To me, it's simple. She is in a quest for safety, and each time she comes closer to it, it wanes away from her, vanishes through her fingers... I believe that's why she laughed. Kind of a mental break down!
I think you guys missed that Jorah stopped sending information to kings landing after season 1. He was fully devoted to Daenerys but he never told her about his spying.
Oberyn died because he was too good at fighting XD He has never lost a fight in his life which resulted into overconfidence, he could have cut through the arm & leg tendons of the Mountain while he was down then ask for his confession.
This was the death that hurt me the most and I had already read the books, so even though I knew it was coming I was still depressed for 2 weeks. Pedro was amazing.
Did you notice how close Arya and Sansa were to being reunited? Sansa is in the castle while Arya was just right outside at the gate. But just like Arya almost meeting up with her mom and Robb; and Bran almost meeting up with Jon, it wasn't meant to be and so they'll each go their separate ways again.
The point of the trail wasn't to kill the Mountain but to have him confess on who ordered the murders or Elia and her children which he succeeded in doing but at a cost.
Exactly as Bronn sad: "I'd be a bloody fool if he didn't frighten me. He's freakish big and freakish strong, and quicker than you'd expect for a man of that size. Maybe I could take him, dance around until he's so tired from hacking at me he dropped his sword, get him off his feet somehow...but one misstep and I'm dead." Like he was describing this battle :) BTW, I do not think that Jorah was sending anything past the attempt on her life by the wine merchant. By then she already gained some respect in his ayes, and possibly love already. Culminating with the unburnt scene, and after that he was both amazed and truly devoted to her. They got info about the dragons and the Unsullied via different sources. It's not like she was hiding that. Lot of people saw both the dragons and the Unsullied.
I agree. Also, Jorah already had his pardon, so there was no reason to keep spying on her. But he stayed instead of returning home. That speaks volumes
Arya was laughing hysterically because wherever the Hound brought her, he never got there in time to collect a reward. You can actually see on his face the disappointment.
S4 has some of the most beautiful visuals: Oberyn in the torchlight, Sansa in the falling snow at the Eyrie, the wide shot of Theon carrying the white flag, the Bolton procession approaching Winterfell. Gorgeous! And more to come YAY!
Another Actor Note: The last scene Pedro Pascal shot as Oberyn was out of sequence with the show, but he went out like a Boss at Spring Break. Here's some context, the filming was during a hot summer in Croatia. Pedro's last scene to shoot was during his walk in the garden with Lena Headey. As soon as the director called a wrap for the scene, Pedro stripped down to his boxers and jumped in the bay. Meanwhile, Lena needed to stay in costume under several layers of robes.
Arya was laughing hysterically because the hound thought he was going to get paid. Sansa is finally playing the game of thrones. FINALLY! That scream from ellaria chilled me. Oberyn was a brilliant character and I actually really liked him. He'd have killed the mountain but he started monologuing. Great to see another vid from you guys. Keep up the good work! 👍👍👍
You guys realise Jora stopped spying for Tywin a long time ago, Varys said it himself at a small council meeting. Tywin sent that pardon purely to cause problems. Arya is laughing because the hound can't seem to get his ransom for arya cos everyone dies before he gets there. Also this was the moment Sansa took her future into her own hands. So many subtle moments in this season that aren't obvious at first viewing.
My heart breaks for Theon. Having your very identity stripped away by force and torture, and then being forced to serve the man who did it to you, is one of the most awful fates in this show.
Varys' little birds have been feeding him entail from across the narrow sea. Jorah, bless him is a good chap and has been devoted to Dany and her cause since he didn't accept Robert's pardon in S1 and he saved her from being poisoned by the wine merchant. Someone has probably already said but Jorah is one of my faves, so I felt compelled to defend his good name :D Thank you as always for the effort and time put in to dish out 3 reactions a week. You guys are the best!
yeah, jorah only fed robert info in the first season. varys has birds everywhere, jorah, for a little while, was one of them, till he fell inlove with dany. i think she was abit harsh, she had already sentenced him to the friendzone and now she banishes him??
@@mog5388 ah but even if I agreed with you wholly I would say that there are many characters to which GOT fans could and do defend who may be morally corrupt sometimes etc. I mean how many characters have a clear conscious as such and are 'innocent'? Not that many, and none are to be seen so black and white. Jaime is good example of this. Most characters could be defended for some of their actions despite also committing crimes or doing some shady deeds. Their complexities are one of the joys of this show. Side note, the 'villains' can be some of my favourites anyway. Tywin is bloody fantastic. Evil or not I don't mind, it's fiction.
Check out DARTH SANSA You can tell a lot about Sansa's mindset from her clothing & hairstyles. In S1&2 she emulates the southern women in King's Landing with elaborate braids, updos, and gowns like Cersei's. After she befriends Margaery, her hair comes down and her gowns are softer & more youthful in fit/color. Now she's wearing darker northern clothing again and her gown is feathered like Littlefinger's mockingbird & the Arryn falcon sigils. Sansa seems a simple & straightforward character but there's always more going on beneath the surface.
She also switched Dragonfly necklace for something more telling with her version of a needle. People see a Non action figure and think she has no story to tell..Wrong! She's also not wearing the Lannister ring
Sansa also sews her own clothes. It's been mentioned from the first season onwards, and actually the reason Arya called her sword "Needle". So Sansa's fashion choices are always political and very well thought through.
Oberyn's sister and her children meant the world to him, he probably couldn't have controlled his rage even if he tried. Imagine how long that rage has been festering, because that incident happened a loooong time before the trial by combat. And there he finally found himself within polearm's reach of both of the people responsible for his kin's death.
Jorah only betrayed Dany up until some time in season 1 when Robert was still alive, but she took it very hard because she and her brother had to flee from assassins their entire lives and Jorah was probably the first person she ever trusted.
The reason why Arya was laughing was based on "bad luck timing." She was too late in being able to save her father. She arrived too late when she was taken to her mother and her brother. She is too late with going back to Winterfell because it is burned down. Now she was too late in seeing her Aunt. Man, she can't catch a break. So, let's just laugh hysterically!!!!! 💔😬😵😂
I prefer to think she was laughing at the Hound, who has spent all this time and effort dragging her all over the country trying to claim a ransom, only to be denied again and again.
@@Mayhemm007 If you look closer at the scene when she begins laughing it was a pure outburst. _THEN,_ she turns and looks at the hound. Two episodes later...you see what happens.
@@veot.2869 “When I was doing it, it was more a reaction to The Hound. This whole time he’s been giving her such a hard time. He’s so in control, and he’s this tough guy, saying he’s going to take me to my aunt in the Vale and ‘I'm going to get my money and I don’t care about you, I just want my money.’ And all of a sudden this happens, and Arya completely loves it." - Maisie Williams (Arya)
Remember when Ser Barristan joined Dany, Jorah asked him if he sat on the Small Council for King Robert. If he did, then he would know Jorah was originally spying on Dany. But he didn’t so Jorah knew his secret was safe (until this episode). Jorah stopped spying on Dany in season 1 after he fell in love with her.
Jorah only spied on Dany until that first time she tried to get poisoned by a wine merchant and he stopped him. At that point, Jorah chose to betray King Robert and his homeland to protect Dany, which is why it upsets me that Dany sees it all as a betrayal against her. You can't betray someone if you were never on their side in the first place. Jorah betrayed his formal allegiances _for_ Dany...
What? Betrayal doesn't only concern "formal" allegiances, and Jorah was an exile who was travelling around with them since he met her/Viserys in 1x01 and helping them. She trusted him and his word, and he was spying on her to obtain a pardon. He gave a man that wanted to kill her the information to motivate him to do that and kill her child. That's betrayal.
RustyShakleford Pretty much spot on. The last three seasons get progressively broad, for lack of a better word. Motivations and politics go out the window and things get oversimplified. Instead of the intricate depth of the books it becomes fairly generic TV writing, just writing to create "badass" moments instead of being true to the characters and the realism of the world. So much of the later seasons goes against what Martin was trying to create.
I didnr reveal any spoilers, dummy. And just because 'most of the world' likes the recent seasons doesn't make them great. Its because theyre pandering to the lowest common denominator.
Any time any friends say they are going to dive into GoT, there are a handful of pivotal episodes you can't wait for them to experience. This episode is near the top of the list. Along with Ned's demise and The Red Wedding, this is one of the craziest episodes of the series. I hope you guys are enjoying the ride!
Aw guys!! Right when you said Oberyn was becoming one of your favorite characters, my heart sank. Nikki’s scream broke me 😭 RIP Oberyn, one of the greatest
I feel like you guys must know by now that Jorah stopped reporting danys secrets the day he stopped her from drinking the poison wine. He had received his pardon right before then and chose after he read it to stay and protect her. Tywin in an earlier episode decided to create his own bit of chaos after hearing selmy had joined her as an advisor and decided to send HIM (selmy) the copy of the pardon as to divide her counselors for now. He knew selmy would never let jorah stay with her if he saw it.
Arya thought it was hilarious because the Hound has spent so long protecting her and travelling all over the country to try and collect a ransom for her, only to fail. AGAIN. Not to mention Lysa had only just died.
For book readers, this was the on-par with the Red Wedding in terms of schadenfreude deaths in GoT. I never fail to feel giddy seeing people react to that whole scene, knowing the rollercoaster of emotions I went on reading about it. A true masterpiece.
Hey Guys! Great reaction as always! Just to clarify on Jorah. He did send letters to Varys back in season 1. He is pardoned by the crown and is allowed to do as he pleases. He took his pardon and chose to stay with Dany and fight by her side. He truly believe in Dany and believes she will be a great ruler. Yes of course he also loves her. He then saves her from drinking the poison wine. From that moment on, he did not betray her. Varys has little birds everywhere and by word of mouth and rumors of the great Dragon Queen, Varys was able to gather information about Dany's armies and her dragons. If you remember when they were in Qarth (The greatest city that ever was or will be), the woman with the full face mask asked Jorah if he would betray her again and he said Never. So yes, Jorah did betray her in the beginning but he changed his ways and has been just as loyal to her as anyone else has been. Keep it up you two!
P.S. Congrats on getting to witness The Mountain vs. The Viper. It's a shame. Oberyn was one of my favorite characters. I loved his attitude, his passion and his fighting style. RIP Oberyn Martell "The Red Viper".
Arya didn't even have to see the look on The Hound's face when it melted as he realized he wouldn't be getting a cent for delivering her to The Eyrie, hahahahaha 🤣
Best reaction so far, worth the wait :P And just as I expected, Nikki screaming and looking away and Steven leaning forward, wide-eyed and not blinking so as not to miss a single second.
MartydoomX I’ve seen the episode a few times like you, rewatched it recently, and I still can’t bear to see his actual death. I have to avert my eyes. On a show that can be unceasingly brutal, I think they outdid themselves there. Oberyn was too beautiful for this world.
I still haven't actually seen it... I put my hand up to block the screen as soon as his eyes get touched. I knew it would be gruesome and I am too squimish for that. I dont look again until Ellaria screams. Poor Oberyn! Gods I loved him from the moment he appeared. Such an amazing performance... TTnTT
"I still haven't actually seen it... I put my hand up to block the screen... " Same! For some reason I started doing that from season 1 on. I did it a bunch of times. So there are several moments (8 maybe?) in GOT that I stilled haven't seen after multiple rewatches.
Awww man one of my favorite episodes "the mountain and the viper!!"" Been waiting on this one.. the dread I felt after this one.. excellent as always guys keep it up y'all!! One love from Tennessee!
Jorah stopped being a spy around mid-season 1, where he knew that wine-trader wanted to poison her, and instead protected her. The Lannisters just try to remove her valueable advisors, and in my opinion, Daenerys is a fool to not notice that. Sure she can be upset, but I think it's a lack of empathy. Changing sides, risking your life and protecting what was proclaimed to be an enemy to the realm doesn't prov loyalty any less than it does the way Baristan Selmy found his way into her service.
Oberyn's death is one of the most difficult to watch in GoT in my opinion. Not quite as difficult as the Red Wedding but still pretty harsh. That end of that fight scene unfolds almost exactly in the same way in the books, right down to Oberyn's teeth getting knocked out with a mailed punch to the face by the Mountain.
Oberyn was full of RIGHTEOUS RAGE. That was really shocking to me. I wish he did not die. He had bad things happen to his family and just wanted justice and revenge.
Pretty sure Jorah stopped spying on Dany when he got his pardon in season one, when he stopped the wine assassin from poisoning her. He was definitely behind her 100% once the dragons were born. The rest of the info made it back to Varys through his spies in Astapor, Yunkai and Mereen. Its also possible the Masters of Slavers Bay were feeding info to Kings Landing in the hope that Tywin would help take out Dany
Pedro is such a good actor. GOT was my introduction to him. This death scene was so brutal. But Sansa playing the Game of Thrones was the second best part of this episode. Very impressive.
Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson plays The Mountain in GoT. He is the first person to have won the Arnold Strongman Classic, Europe's Strongest Man and World's Strongest Man in the same calendar year (2018). I read that some doctors and scientists think he could actually do that to a human skull. And to think he used to be a pro basketball player!
Brilliant Reaction as always guys. Oberyn’s Death was Extremely Shocking. Lol. But just to let you both know Ser Jorah Mormont has devoted his life to Daenerys and stopped sending Letters to Varys ever since the end of Season 1 when he saw Daenerys rise from the Burnt out Fire Unhurt with 3 Baby Dragons. And in Episode 6 of this season 4 before Tyrion’s court Trial at the Council meeting Varys told Tywin about Jorah being Devoted to Dany and then Tywin asked Varys if one of his little Birds could find their way into Meereen.
I'm a wuss, I cant watch the Viper die again. Out of all the deaths we've seen thus far. Oberon was the one I have hated, I'm with Steven he became my favourite character in such a short period of time.
