In the books, MANY Targaryen's throughout history didn't always have the silver-blonde hair. Many Targaryen's married into other noble houses so they didn't always look like Targaryen's. Jon just took after his mother Lyanna's looks. So the Targs didn't always marry their siblings, it's only when they did that they would have the silver-blonde hair and purple eyes of their people. Oh! And fun fact! One of the main reasons Robert Baratheon became king was not just because he won his rebellion but also because his grandmother was a Targaryen princess, so that was his "true" claim to the Iron Throne. :)

I continue to believe that Liam Cunningham (Davos) should've been nominated for an Emmy just for that one scene with Melisandre and Jon Snow. Emotional and powerful. That's just great acting right there.

The writers and actors did a behind the scenes of this episode, where they explained that in the scene where Cersei looks over Tommen's body, they were trying to show that something had died inside her. Its almost like a resignation. Shes so cold and hardened now, that she isn't capable of mourning him. Its not that she never cared for her children, its just that everything thats happened to hear has left her empty and hollow. She really just has no more fucks to give

Even if he has dark hair, he can still be a Targaryen, because Targaryen blonde is a recessive gene, that's why they married brothers and sister in their family, because they wanted to keep their purple eyes blonde hair trait pure. Since Lyanna had dark hair and eyes, it was a big chance Jon would have inherited her hair and eyes.

The theory of R+L=J have been around for a very long time... the readers of the books have waited for this theory to confirm for 20 years!... wow

Well, the confusion was normal for both of them. Why? Because they are in the show without spoilers and watching it at one go whereas we all were spoiled by numerous R+L=J theories over the internet.

If you actually think about it, the entire series revolved around Ned Stark. Think of all the favors and help given to Ned's family strictly because of him and his honorable reputation. All the favor given and trust bestowed upon his children on the strength of his name and who he was. There wasn't a season and damn near ever episode his name was mentioned. Yeah the show totally revolved around him. He wasn't there, but he was there.

It is possible for targaryens to have dark hair. It’s just uncommon. Blonde is recessive and it’s not explained much on the show but in the books the Targaryen line is very incestuous. Sister-brother, cousin-cousin, niece-uncle etc. Since all carried the gene all pure blooded targaryens have blonde hair (like Daenerys, viserys, aegon, aemon, etc). So if a Targaryen has children with someone who is not (Baratheon/stark for example) where they are primarily dark haired, the recessive gene is likely to be taken over. So yes, Jon can be a Targaryen but have dark hair. It is a bit confusing to get your head around though.

Three ideas for you to ponder: 1. Barristan Selmy: " [Rhaegar] was the finest man I ever knew." 2. Robert loved Lyanna; does that mean Lyanna loved Robert? 3. When reviewing history, ALWAYS consider the source.

My take on Cercei re: her kids...I sensed that the moment Cercei realized she lost Mycella as she watched the funeral barge coming to shore. She understood the fortune teller from her childhood was right. I feel at that moment she began to emotionally distance herself from Tommen. And then Tommens manipulation by the high sparrow and subsequent decisions further alienated their relationship. She remained protective of Tommen, but i think you can see in the acting choices when Cercei and Tommen interact after Mycellas death, a growing reserve in Cercei's affection because she knew she would be losing him too.

Jon is Rheagar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark son. So it means Daenerys is his aunt. It is not a spoiler. Everyone knew that from that point :D And Lyanna didin't want Robert to find out about this child because Robert wanted every Targaryen dead. In the end it was Robert Beratheon who started rebellion against Targaryens because Rheagar kidnapped (from what we know at this point) his wife to be - Lyanna.

If Jon was Robert's kid, Lyana wouldn't have said "don't tell Robert"... think about it.

The spectrum of people picking up clues continues to fascinate me. For example, my mom (who's smart but isn't very observant when she's watching TV or movies and often falls asleep) declared, "Jon's not going to be Ned's son" in Season 1 during the conversation between Ned and Robert about Jon's mother. On the other hand, my boss (who has a PhD in a STEM field) didn't even deduce from this episode's beautiful editing that Lyanna's baby is Jon. When I went into work that Monday all ready to discuss this to death, she was like, "Wait! What?! Really?! I wondered who the baby was going to be! I thought it might be Daenerys." Talk about wanting to facepalm :-D

10:34. Now, go back and watch episode 1, the scene where Robert and Ned are sitting in the field having lunch. That conversation is now completely different! In fact this revelation changes alost every single scene with Ned Stark in it!

If you go back and rewatch season 1 there are numerous hints: When the Royal family visit, Ned doesn't allow Jon to sit with the family during the feast like he normally would. Jon says it is because Catelyn didn't want to offend the Royals, in reality its because he didn't want Jon near Robert. Ned never calls Jon his son, his last words to him are "You may not have my name, but you have my blood". When Robert asks Ned about "your bastards mother" he immediately shuts him down and states that he will never tell him who she is. Throughout season 1 Robert shows an irrational hatred of the Targaryns because of his hatred of Rhaegar, he even says "I'll kill any Targaryn I get my hands on". Ned quits as Hand of the King because Robert orders the death of Danerys and her unborn child. During the actual rebellion Ned fell out with Robert when he discovered that the Lannisters had killed Rhaegar's children with Elia of Dorne, he wanted Tywin Lannister punished for it but Robert refused. Ned realised then that Robert was quite capable of looking the other way over the murder of children and that any Targaryn would always be in danger while he was on the throne. When Jon is considering leaving the watch to fight with Robb, Maester Aemon talks to him about duty noting that love is the death of duty. He asks Jon if your father was faced with a choice between his honour and a loved one, what would he choose. Jon just says that he would do whatever was right. Later on Ned shows that he will accept personal dishonour to protect Sansa and lies about Joffrey to save her life. In the books (sorry) he is thinking constantly about Lyanna when weighing up this decision and keeps hearing her voice "promise me Ned". It even mentions some where that this "was Ned Stark's curse, when he gave his word, he kept it". There are some videos on line that show the hints, and discuss Rhaegar. I suggest you have a look at them.

Everyone complains about teleporting Varys, but his meeting in Dorne was some time after Cersei kills everyone since that’s why Olenna is there, so the episode is definitely non-linear. There are Dornish and Tyrell sails in Daenerys’ fleet too.

Daenerys is Jon's aunt. As for the White Wolf: The Stark sigil is a gray direwolf on white. In heraldry, bastards usually invert the colors of their house and so Jon's personal arms would be a white direwolf on gray, instead of the traditional gray direwolf on white. As for Dorne: yes! If you look closely at Daenerys' Armada, you can see the sigils of both House Martell and House Tyrell among the ships, with Targaryen and Greyjoy sails. I don't know how you think it's Robert's child. If it was Robert's, why wouldn't she tell Robert it was his kid? Robert never slept with Lyanna. Remember, Robert wanted to eliminate every Targaryen he could, no matter how young. Remember that Ned objected to Robert trying to kill Daenerys, as she was just a child. Jon is Rhaegar's son, and there have been Targaryens with dark hair as there are Dornish Queens in the Targaryen line. Dorne entered the Seven Kingdoms by marriage, not conquest, and Queen Mariah Martell Targaryen bore some dark haired sons. We don't know about Dyanna Dayne Targaryen, wife of Maekar I (Maester Aemon's & Egg/Aegon V's father) but it's entirely possible she has dark hair too. The genes are in there. Jon's dark hair is because of Lyanna. It could be that the dark hair is a recessive gene, and he has a double recessive because of Lyanna. Rhaegar's first child Rhaenys was also dark haired.

Season 6 was the best season up until now in my opinion. That 'King in the North' scene gives me chills up to this day. How did you guys manage to avoid ANY spoilers about Jon's heritage? Think about it: If Robert believed Lyanna conceived a child from Rhaegar raping her, he would not want that child to live, hence Lyanna not wanting Ned to tell Robert and ultimately protect her child from Robert

It's actually so sad to realize this when you think about it. Cat hated him because he was the product of "Ned being dishonorable." And that wasn't the truth. Job was hated and seen as a bastard when he actually wasn't. And Neds reputation was blemished all to grant his sisters dying wish to keep Jon safe from Robert. Everyone suffered because of this secret.

I love this part: [10:33 "Oh, we're tying up all the loose ends right now?" "It feels like it". So they see Bran return to the Tower ofJoy and maybe think, 'well, yes there was something weird going on with Bran here', or maybe they remember that Ned was looking for Lyanna and they think they are going to show us how she died, you know, to tie up a loose end, so no clue at all about the great significance of that scene. And then they repeat a couple sentences of Lyanna's that don't make much sense, and then they hear a baby cry... a tentative question ventures on: "Is that Jon?".... wait for it, wait for it (suspenseful music)..... the baby fades into adult Jon (with gorgeous Stark theme playing) and Nikki & Steven both shout expletives and cover their mouths speechless for a few splits of a second.... a bit later....
