‘They should know whom to blame when the sky falls down upon them’
- Daenerys Targaryen
I have a lot to say about the last battle in the GOT. Probably I hoped that won't happen at all and our favorite characters could finally find a compromise and make peace with each other. There were so many mistakes they've made and so many things went through, some of those they went together.
I don’t have an unambiguous point of view to Cersei’s decision about the Great War when she decided to abandon northerners in the battle with the Night King. As the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms who she has always wanted to be, she should have protected her people from the foreign threat. But she chose to avoid the battle to save and increase her power while northerners were fighting the Army of the Dead. 'Let the monsters kill each other', as she mentioned in dialogue with Jaime just before he left her in season 7. And she lost.
As well as Daenerys did. She's one more broken queen who couldn't find the right way to move further. As Jon noticed to Tyrion, still trying to justify Dany’s actions in KL, 'she saw her friend beheaded, she saw her dragon shot down from the sky', so she really had many reasons to attack the Red Keep and the whole city. I'm not her fan at all but I felt bad when after everything she did for common people she wanted to protect, she got a knife in a heart, by her lover, by the person whom she trusted and for whose sake she postponed her fighting for the throne. By the way, I don't judge Jon for what he did cause he've been trying to do right things all his life, he was 'a shield that guarded the realms of men', so he just did his duty by killing Dany.
Cersei's end isn't so bitter because she died with Jaime and knew that she was loved. Was that prophecy or not, but Cersei chose her fate herself when she left her army standing down in KL instead of sending them north. She was lucky to have her brother/lover by her side all these forty years in spite of her selfishness and arrogance. She was lucky to be the love of his life. That's why Jaime came back and tried to save her. I know she loved him deeply, not as pure as he did, but Jaime was the one (except their children) whom she loved not for a purpose.
And in the end, Cersei had her loyal Hand Qyburn she has grown rather fond of. I'm not sure he was a good political advisor but he always was there for Cersei and supported his queen no mater what. If it weren't for him, Cersei could have lost this war long ago. I mean, thanks to Qyburn she got the Mountain as her personal bodyguard, thanks to Qyburn's curiosity the Crown got the weapon against the dragons.
These are my thoughts about all this misery, so you can agree with me - or you are welcomed to discuss it in the comments below ;)
