Ocarina is best game of 1998.

The intro music brought me back to 2009/10 in high school. What a throwback oh gosh. It made the hair behind my neck go up

How dare you not put Ocarina of Time at the top! Blasphemy. It remains playable to this day, it is one of the best games ever made, and undoubtedly the best of that year.

@37:09 I'm glad they acknowledged Trent Reznors contribution to the quake soundtrack. He's now an award winning film composer along with Atticus Ross.

As stated elsewhere in the comments, Super Mario Bros 3 came out in Feb 1990 in NA. 1988 in Japan.

As an Amiga kid in 1994 England, Sensible World of Soccer (swos) was the perfect game. That game took thousands of hours from my childhood. Shout out to Jon Hare and Chris Yates from Sensible Software. Thanks for such a great episode of Game Scoop, lads. Perfect 10s all round.

For 96 Tobal and it’s fighting game/RPG combo with a hundred characters was my favorite game that year. Tomb Raider was great but Tobal held all my attention.

Capcom had the best character designers in the business… aside from Nintendo, they had the most iconic videogame characters because of their design team.

Quake was my first 3d fps. Doom is a top down 2d shooter using a first person camera.

Spiritual Warfare was the second best game of 1992, second only to A Link To The Past. But in terms of importance, probably not very much.

It's borderline insane to even think about putting Super Mario World over Street Fighter 2 in 91. And just speaks to the Nintendo bias often inherent in Scoop. Super Mario World even has competition from Super Mario 3 as the best Mario Side Scroller. But Street Fighter 2 forever changed the games industry. It made arcades viable again. You don't have other fighting games, including Mortal Kombat the following year, without Street Fighter 2. Every fighting game, from Dead or Alive to Tekken, to Guilty gear, and the whole fighting game scene, which includes Evo, doesn't exist without Street Fighter 2. It created the genre. And as someone who was a child, preteen in 91, as Daemon was, it's not even a close competition. It's definitely Street Fighter 2. Also, Syndicate from 93 was ported to SNES and Genesis as well, and it was a cool, isometric cyberpunk rpg. It was also reinvented as a cool 1st person shooter on the Xbox 360/ps3 starring Brian Cox of Succession fame, Rosario Dawson, and Michael Wincott, who played the big bad, Top Dolla, in the Crow. It's backwards compatible to play on Series S/X. It's a wonderful game, has a great trailer as well.

Do not miss janky cameras/controls from early N64/PSX/Saturn games, but outside of that, it was a cool time to be a gamer, especially if you were in your teens/early 20s. Old enough to appreciate the golden age and young enough to enjoy the modern era (for better or worse).

Totally agree on SF2. If you were a teen, back then, you know that there was absolutely NOTHING like it before. SF2 is the Genesis of the modern fighting genre. When it came to console, there were 2 games all SNES owners had to have at that time: SF2... and Super Mario World.

If you think Goldeneye doesn’t hold up, you’re wrong and using the wrong control scheme. Yes the framerate can get bad at times on certain levels in multiplayer, but it’s far from your hyperbole

Big disagree about GoldenEye. Plays really well to me, still the best Bond game and one of the best uses of a license ever. The remaster on Series X with updated modern controls is icing on the cake.

Damn no love for donkey Kong country and DKC2! DKC had the best 2d graphics at the time for a snes cart and the music was the best of all time. Could say the same for both games can’t believe those were ignored
