Jefferson was in the final scene of the game (Not seen tho) I can understand why Rachel did what she did. After being a goody goody for so long, and meeting someone like Chloe, you want to go and try a different life style. The reason I can relate to Rachel so much is bc my story is pretty similar. Anyways, someone like Rachel meeting someone like Chloe and actually liking someone like Chloe a lot can truly change your life

A Touch Too Much I think it's actually elemental powers in general, not just fire. It looked like she was controlling the wind. I also think she caused the storm, like an angry ghost not liking that Chloe was "taken from her" when Max saved her with time travel. It would explain why only Chloe's survival had such a strong effect in one week, but her father's didn't in five years. If so, Max might be able to save both in LiS 2, if she figures that out and finds a way to save Rachel.

Jared could Max never have gone back to an old photo and meet her with Chloe? She must have had a photo taken from around the time her and Chloe weren’t speaking and chloe was best friends with Rachel, and then she could have just prevented what happened anyway? Chloe didn’t even suggest this in the first game and I feel like if I were chloe and I lost my best friend and had another best friend with rewinding powers I’d be like rewind the fuck back, see what happened and stop it! I just don’t get why it was never even mentioned considering she could go back to save Chloe’s father.

She didn't tell Chloe about the photo power til episode 5, when it was too late to start hunting for more old Max pictures. She uses them to focus on points in her own past, so she'd have to somehow fix it without meeting Rachel. And there's no telling how much evidence was in the bunker six months before season 1, so it would be difficult to pull off. *But* if Rachel's...idk, unruly ghost did cause the storm because Chloe was "taken" from her with time travel, and *if* Max figured that out somehow, it might work as a big puzzle for season 2, like putting all the evidence together in episode 4 of season 1. **Or** I'm totally wrong about all of this and this was just a filler cash grab that won't affect season 2 much.

@yarpen26, What they should have done was give her the same powers as Max, but have her keep quiet about it. It'd be a funny way of explaining why practically everyone loved her (she could redo conversations, just like Max), it wouldn't conflict with her murder since we already know Max *barely* escaped with the help of David, and they could have written a lot of interesting scenes where her having time powers would make sense...but we wouldn't know for sure since we're seeing it from the re-wound perspective. Honestly, that's what I thought they were going for at first, when they played "two truths and a lie". Since she guesses *perfectly*, I was thinking she rewound and I only saw her successful attempt. It would have been like guessing Chloe's pockets, but from her perspective instead of Max's. It would have also explained why she knew about stuff she hadn't seen. But...nope. She's just a good guesser and spied on Chloe in episode 1.

Jared I think this also would have been a good way to explain how max got her powers since they never did in the first game. Idk. Maybe they will in the sequel. However if this game is any indication, whatever explanation they give us will probably contradict what happens in the first game.

Dart is wrong for that one. I know it's a joke that Chloe made but how could she eat a baby in the womb if she wasn't present in the womb with said baby. Dart didn't really think this one trough. Just like every "everything wrong with" channels they overanalyze stuff and throw pointless sins.

My main questions are: Why is it that Max can rewind time by a grandiose amount, and though I know she can't travel too far back without hurting herself, why doesn't she rewind time in certain plot events to make sure things turn out well? Like when she first learns of her ability, she can reverse time to certain areas. This would allow her to better figure out things. When Max learns of the storm, why is it that she or Chloe try and actually think on it. Max even later learns it happens in just a few days. Surely with the intellect these kids had (and they do know a lot of crazy things) and their abnormal ability to study, Max should had been more than enough able to come to the conclusion of the Butterfly effect. Max never again stops time. She only did it once so she could reach one of her classmates. Max shades Warren a little too much. People feel so bad for him because he's a great guy, considerate, and is okay with trying to get close to Max but lets her have her space when she asks for it. Seriously, I hope Max eventually gets together with Warren, he deserves it. Max learned of the ability to rewind time to certain events in photographs. This allows her to go years into the past without straining her abilities. Sure this didn't go so well with Chloe but she could had at least saved Racheal if she used a image that had her go back to before Racheal was known to die. Would this start another catastrophic event? We don't know. And most importantly, does Max still have these abilities after the end of the game? Does she save/send Nathan to jail? And her teacher as well? What happens to her class? Did Racheal also have a power? Why did Chloe not know Racheal was doing drugs? Why does Max recognize Chloe with blue hair? Why are there so many plot holes?

Rew T she can't go back in time using a photograph from when Rachel was around because Max has never met rachel and so Max can only go back in time if she's in the picture or if she was there when the picture was taken. So bringing back rachel is absolutely not possible using the game logic. she can go back to when they were kids before chloe's father died and maybe use a pic from when she was outside of arcadia bay studying to go back to that period of time and maybe call and warn chloe from driving the car? Tho if this happened it would be really silly and the game would lose its value because u can't do everything the way you want it

I feel like I do remember it being briefly mentioned in the first game in episode 1. Even if they didn't mention her dad was the DA, Chloe definitely says that her parents gave up looking for her early on because they were in denial that something bad could have happened and because everyone knew Rachel wanted to run away, so they figured she had just left town.

yep. I've had a friend who was in a very similar situation to Chloe's and I even had some deep talks with her mom about it. Her reasoning was, that she was allowed to be happy and that her child should be happy for her and suck it up. But the truth is: if you're a single parent and your partner mistreats your child or they just don't get along, reevaluate your relationship with your partner or at least don't let them move in until your child can move out. Get family therapy and individual therapy. The child can literally not move away in most cases and is stuck with whoever the parent chooses as a partner. You don't have to stop dating forever, but at least don't force your child to form a relationship with your partner. Joyce seemed to think that if she just forces Chloe to accept David as her new parental figure, it would all work out somehow, but she was actually making things a lot worse by forcing her.

And rachel is a shitty person anyway who just manipulates people to get what she wants.

They are indeed _more_ likely but that's by no means a rule. I've heard that if you hail from a dysfunctional family, your chances of repeating the same mistakes is somewhere around 1:3 so two out of three people from abusive backgrounds are perfectly able to start over. I'm mentioning that because this whole "I'm destined to do the same" narrative has prevented way too many people from just simply enjoying their lives. This is *not* a scientific fact, just an excuse brought up by people in depression.

I’m late but, I don’t consider BtS cannon because it’s such a mess, BUT when I do try to make it fit, I imagine that the affair with Jefferson didn’t happen, that was Jefferson’s obsessive delusion. He was a teacher so he may have had access to some of Rachel’s writing from assignments and wrote her love letter to himself, using her schoolwork to mimic her handwriting. The dude does come off completely delusional and unhinged in the end, so I feel like it’s not too much of a stretch lol The other theory, is that Rachel didn’t have romantic feelings for everyone, the 3 people she was manipulating into thinking she loved them were just possible options for her to escape with. Chloe was an outcast that seemed wild enough to run away from life with. Frank was a drug dealer with an RV, they could ride off and set up almost anywhere. Jefferson is a respected and famous artist, so he probably makes good money from his art and would be able to take her traveling around the world while he does his photography. Rachel does come off pretty fake in BtS, she just chameleon’s into what ever the person/people she’s around need. They did not write her the way LiS 1 alluded to.

I feel like how rachel acted with chloe played a big role with how chloe was with max. Rachel was a very manipulative person and overall just a terrible person. Rachel in my opinion was a TERRIBLE influence on chloe. Thats why I think max and chloe are so much better. They bring out the best in eachother. and how chloe acted towards max in the first game max deserved it honestly.

Well except those parts. The distressing moments were powerful BECAUSE they came in direct contrast with the somber, calm segments of the game or even brought abrupt ends to them. You spend 2 hours having fun with Chloe or goofing around with randoms or sitting by a tree thinking about stuff then BOOM a dead body, a shooting, a suicide, something fucked up. Meanwhile on BTS everyone is constantly on edge. Other than the D&D segment there's not a single moment that something stressing isn't happening. Even the "relaxing" parts put you on edge, with Rachel lashing out at viewfinders or setting towns on fire. And I get it, it's intentional but I'm still conflicted about it.

@@Uroboro_Djinn I don't think it's intentional. To me it was more like a caricature of Life is Strange, like someone took the general idea of the game's story and atmosphere, but had no idea or wasn't paying enough attention to how these elements were put together.

Jade Annabel I don't mind it because it's basically like a movie or a show that gives you trophies (or achievements) along the way. Plus one of Telltales first games (BTTF) didn't really have all the choice stuff and it was a great game

Don't tell me you expected choices to matter in a prequel to a choice making game.

Not in this, but in the first game- (Spoilers obviously) You do all this to help, you save (or don't save) Kate. You help Alyssa multiple times, you help fix or break relationships among multiple students. But at the end, you either just... kill everyone (so none of your choices matter) or go back and kill Chloe (So none of your choices matter.) Really this game should've been more focused on filling in backstory then making choices. The most interesting part really was seeing how Chloe got expelled, because it was something we KNEW happened, but didn't know HOW. I just... this entire series seems more like 'life is pointless/horrible' with the way it treats choices.

I feel we both watched the same review because I remember watching one based on Before the storm and they brought up the exact same point. It makes sense, but it doesn't make me hate the game less.

Jade Annabel there's a point for that in the first game. In this game it's because they decided to make an unnecessary prequel.

Out of all the LiS franchise, I will say that the Kate suicide scene was handled absolutely *beautifully.* So much so I believe it might actually dissaude somebody from killing themselves in real life. It was portrayed respectfully without giving in to cringe and cheap sentimentalism, especially when they later showed Victoria crying in her room over what had happened, instead of simply brush her off as this unredeemable bully-and I really love that one take when you approach the dorm door and you walk past a frozen David, who's running frantically to save Kate, even though he intimidated her before. For that, I give Dontnod my kudos and while I admit that overall it's probably not really a good game, this one scene wasn't just decent, it was *amazing.*

Dude, it’s a all a matter of taste. I fucking despise K-Pop and all of it’s cringy ass fans, yet I still let people listen to what they want. LiS can be cringy as fuck, yet some people can still relate to it and have fun with it by ignoring some of the aspects that people (mostly rightfully) criticise. It’s not that much of a big fucking deal that people enjoy a game like this.

I'm speaking from my own perspective, but it felt like no matter how much one would sympathize with Chloe in LIS, any good that came of it was only temporary. Her personality is such that she follows a stereotypical template--one that is very cynical and selfishly irreverent, and doesn't really grow or evolve from that template through experience. I felt many times like the only reason she was around was to add conflict to an otherwise ordinary, albeit weird, slice of life scenario. If I were Max I would have been completely burned out from being with Chloe within a few days' time, lol. In BTS however, Chloe comes off as a bit more tame, like she is supposed to be the more "level-headed" between she and Rachel. This contradicts what we already know, therefore it makes her personality seem all the more flippant; and I don't see how the events in this game are so profound that they cause her to be as negative as she is in LIS.

Max is boring af and she just plays the victim the entire time in the first game. Making up poor excuses for the fact that she straight up ignored her best friend for five years after her dad died and she was clearly struggling. How chloe acted towards max in the first game was fully justified. max deserved it.

I've heard several teenage girls defend this game, saying that adults or guys simply don't get it, that this kind of angst _genuinely_ exists in this particular demographic but I just don't buy it. Yes, teenagers are self-obsessed and obnoxious but Chloe just breaks all the counters here. And teenagers *do* get tired of this BS too, when it's delivered in too big doses. Having a young character go through a drama that an adult would find irrelevant does _not_ have to be an exclusive story that only appeals to one specific group. Hell, we get stories with completely different stakes that still manage to get us invested to roughly the same degree: whether we need to save an entire galaxy (Mass Effect) or just find out who we really are (Planescape: Torment), if the story is _well told,_ everybody will be able to find it interesting. An infant child who dropped his teddy bear outside his crib and is now crying because he thinks he'll never recover it can be just as tragic and heartwrenching as a single mother desperately looking for her long lost daughter. You just need to take some _effort_ instead of be like "Oh, this thing is just for this crowd, you won't get it so don't even try". Life is Strange failed _spectacularly_ in this regard. Here is a troubled teenager who lost her father in a car crash. Why do I feel like strangling her on the spot instead of hugging her? You tell me, story writer.

Warren turned out to be a genuinely nice guy, if not a dogged one. Eliot isn't like warren as he lacks a real character, is a yandere for no other reason than to get the fans to not ship him with Chloe, and is overall poorly written with even less relevance than Warren. At least Warren if you choose not to get close with him learns to back off and even roots for you and Chloe if you for some reason choose to get with her annoying manipulative entitled ass instead. Eliot was just... Terrible. And pointless. And bad.

"Genuinely nice" might be stretching it a bit far. I agree he's not like Eliot in that he's ultimately harmless, but he's still a creep with serious boundary issues. In any case, I'm not one for romance mechanics in games to begin with (especially if it's kids), but I found the fact that the emotional core of the story is supposed to revolve around Chloe and her relationship with Max to be extremely bizarre. Or...maybe...funny in a way. Even if Chloe WAS the greatest girl/friend to ever walk the earth, in what universe am I gonna let an entire town of people die for her. Like, it's such a non-choice. And then they made her totally unlikable (if not completely unsympathetic).

That it connects with you on an emotional level is fine, but objectively speaking this game is gutter trash. Life is Strange had a platoon of flaws too, but at least characters and such, core aspects to the game, were consistent. The ''development'' of the characters in BtS directly contradict what we see in LiS.

athorist I think the point was to give her a dnd build that sort of reflected Chloe’s look and character. I’m just acknowledging that it’s not a very common build to see. I also thought it was funny that an elf barbarian is a miniature and a character sheet they happened to have on hand

SuperBry23 well It's like Degrassi or Dawson's Creek or whatever portraying teenagers and what not plus they do have some neat designs when it comes to ironically making somewhat realistic looking rooms, the town school and such It's like you want to see what real life drama they can put in Plus hey pretty nice soundtrack

Both games sucked, I’m in the same boat as you when it comes to questioning why it gets so much praise.

People were trying to call it best game of 2015. I never understood it. There was a nice twist nearish the end of the first game, that was it. I didn’t like the graphics, didn’t like the gameplay but then again it wasn’t exactly expensive. The story wasn’t even that interesting to me either. I think it’s just like, a lot of people love seeing the whole socially awkward lesbian thing because it doesn’t get a lot of attention. That’s just what I feel like.

I enjoyed some of the elements of Game 1, Part 5. Specifically, the murder basement, David's heroism, and when Max breaks time. Other than that, yeah, Game 1 was so bad (Max is the most hateful protagonist I've played as...but she IS a teenager, so...), that I was never going to buy this game.

Max was bland, Chloe was unbearable but several characters did stand out at least high enough for me to give a fuck about their arcs, specifically Victoria, Kate and David.

Its not chloes fault why she acts the way that she does. People who blame others for things in their life and lash out is just a coping mechanism. If you actually try understanding her character you would like her a lot. And as someone who has went through the same struggles as chloe and lost a parent I relate to her so much. She is just a mentally unstable teenager who unfortunately had a terrible life. Its not her fault at all.

So many flaws in this game, but i admit i play BTS because the first one really destroyed my heart. Plus i love chloe.

@@manusiaberuntung891 I also love chloe so much. And this game impacted me WAY more than the first game. I never cried so much in a game before. I sympathize with chloe so much. I also lost a parent so the way chloe handled it was so accurate. It really changes you as a person. Thats why I also sympathize with her a lot in the first game too. Blaming people and lashing out like chloe did in the first game is just a coping mechanism. Thats why chloe apologized so many time. People just lack so much empathy.
