Completely agree. The amount of work it's taken me to claw my way back up has been astronomically higher than it took for my channel to climb back in 2011 & 2012. When OneChannel hit, everything changed. I mean, I was making garbage content from 2014 through the middle of 2016, so that much is my own fault anyways. Good stuff Mat!

BUTTERFLY EFFECT: you comment, people like, i reply, people may or may not like, you may reply, someone see's this, goes to the fridge, and drinks some orange juice, wich causes his fridge to be empty and he leaves house to buy new orange juice, accidentally steps on that snail of your story, snail couldn't go to a snail loving 6 year old, 6 year old never got caught on playing with snail, 6 year old never got bullied, 6 year old has a happy life till 13, now 13 year old DOES get bullied, impact slaps him harder becous he never got a bully before, 13 year old becomes a school shooter at the age of 15, it gets on the news, the president of korea starts seeing in that more and more people are school shooter, then kills every non-dictator country... BUT!!! becous i replied with the intire story, person who originally whas going to drink orange juice, now wont do that anymore and the snail of YOUR story never died... BUTTERFLY EFFECT!!!!

Oh, MatPat, I think you may have made an error in looking for Sales data on Minecraft. you see Minecraft is the second biggest game NOT on steam, and Notch had said years ago that he wouldn't put it up on Steam's storefront. So looking for Steam sales data was a waste of time.

I think Minecraft is starting to become so widespread that RU-vid knows so many people come to the site just to watch Minecraft content, that they made Minecraft and other games a lot more popular on the site, just not lets-play series, and not to the extent that it was previously at.

Fhjd Ghcfhc honestly the only time home page has helped me was when I was tripping on acid and had no idea what to type in the search bar. I resorted to cancerous mainstream comedy that had died almost as quickly as it rose up, Vine. And a bunch of songs. Try LSD kids, it's a blast!

Yeah i remember when i was little i watched stick animations (the stickmen zombie apocalypse ...) and i didnt see a single gaming video but a year passed and the youtube was full of gaming videos.

Considering let's play videos were dominating the homepage, I believe RU-vid made the right decision to alter their algorithm to display more variety on the homepage for first-time users of the website. And then after you create an account and watch some videos and like them, RU-vid takes notice of the interests and then offers you suggestions that are similar to what you like. I think their algorithm works well enough. There have been countless times it has shown me channels that I never would have discovered if they want randomly suggested. I found a few channels that I cherish.

Sigh. they do still make good content, but the creative magic is kinda gone. even if there were other games of equal creative power, they just don't seem to be willing or able to try and spark up a story like they did. Now It's combat games, gta maps, and multiplayer games. at least on the main channel. And on others, it's making their way through preset modpacks, random games, and vlogs. The epic tales, the accidental plot twists, the creativity, it's all just kind of gone. And as far as I can tell, nothing has really taken it's place. There doesn't really seem to be another outlet that creates anew tale so easilly anywhere. at least, if there is, It's no longer here. It's trailers, compilations, fact videos, and channels you already know. It makes you kinda sad.

I totally agree. RU-vid completely shut down channels that focused around skits. Makemebad35 got hit very hard in 2012 and he barely gets views anymore. The algorithm change also affected viral videos. Before the change, videos could become viral on RU-vid and get anywhere from 50-100 million views. Now, lots of videos get smaller amounts of views 1-3 million. Seeing a video become viral like the old days (2005-2011) is extremely rare. Most viral videos get 10-20 million views and that's mainly because of clickbait.

I just watch what I like in fact until now I never even noticed a change as I just searched for something I liked example: while looking around for a good game I found another channel with a game that I liked and you just happen to be brought up in it so I searched for your channel and found more content that I liked then that other channel hense why I subscribed to yours and not that other channel.
