16 years for killing a child that couldn't even live until she herself was 16 years old? That's disgusting. Those people who literally tortured a child should have had a life sentence, spending their lives in a dark, dirty prison for taking away another's life. They should have been in prison longer, so that they could reflect on their horrifying actions. Instead they are free to torture more innocent children.

I think those therapists deserve a death sentence for murdering a child.They went to far.

I don't believe in the afterlife, but sometimes I hope heaven exsists, just so kids like Candice could have the happiness they deserve.

She was not a quitter. She was a fighter and fighting until she dies. She was a strong lady.

It’s kind of sad to think that a child’s life was worth 16 years in prison. She could have lived a fulfilling life.

the part that confused me was.. the therapist say they want Candice to do something to get birth out of the fake womb.. yet Candice DID to the point she cried trying.. why they still sitting on her? even told her to die? whats the point of the "rebirth"? does they really just want to murder a child using foreplay?

It gets worse when you remember that 5 consenting adults agreed to this. These individuals were in the MEDICAL FIELD. THESE 5 ADULTS IN THE MEDICAL FIELD PERSISTED FOR OVER AN HOUR ON A GIRL THAT WASN'T EVEN 11 YET. This should never have happened and if all was right in the world, they'd all have their medical licenses revoked, they would be serving life sentences without bail and parole, and they would be ostracised and alienated in the public eye. That is not just murder, that is FIRST DEGREE MURDER, these people knew what they were doing could cause asphyxiation, and they held the position for 80 minutes. First degree murder on its own is at least 25 years without parole. This was torture, and there are security cams and even a transcript to prove it. This is a true situation where the legal system failed.

The scariest part is we are talking about a REPORTED case. Imagine how many children are suffering or suffered yet no one will ever hear their echoes, for they have faded out.

I unfortunately am one of those children that never found a forever home. It still torments me to this day.

The story of what happened to that poor girl when she was already suffering is truly heartbreaking. Everyone who was part of that awful 'Therapy' should rot in prison for taking that girl's life away.

7 Years is disgusting. I wish that EVERYBODY involved in that got life in prison. They are calling her a "quitter" as they are killing her. Thats the last thing she hears. That breaks my heart.

Coming back to this theory after Matpat announced he’d be leaving, and I really hope that this series gets picked up again at some point. This is definitely one of the most memorable theories of his to me, maybe because of how disturbing it is, that’s it’s based on a true story, that i’ve never seen anything quite like Petscops, or that this series went unfinished. I never fully understood everything in the later theories of this series, but I hold it close to my heart nonetheless. Well, if nothing else, thank you for bringing Petscops to my attention and the first place, and for making these memories for me in the first place.

I can't believe some "therapists" killed a child and called her a "quitter." Candice was a fighter and should be remembered. Rest In Peace

It breaks my heart to know that the last words that child hear was "Quitter". Candace was not a quitter she was not a baby, she was a strong fighter and may she rest in peace.

Ok in all seriousness, after 4 years this still is the darkest and saddest episode of game theory and it will probably be like that forever. That little girl did not deserve what happened to her, and may she have a much better and happier life In wherever we go after death.

Candance's story was so cruel, how could someone do that to a child? Those therapists got lucky they only got 16 years, the others who got away better feel guilty.

It took me a minute to register that the stuff in that story was real, and not just part of the lore of this game. Humans truly are among the most vile creations of nature.

5 years later, this story is still one that is one of the most horrific I've ever heard. This is, without a doubt, the darkest episode of Game Theory to date. Petscop is cool n' all and I'm glad it's doing well, but the story of Candice cannot be understated. It's revolting to hear her story, and I know I'm not the first to say it, but those "therapists" deserved more than 16 years. There was no excuse for torturing a *ten-year-old, traumatized child.*

candice was trumatised when she got taken away from her birth home,even more so to be subjected to such horrors before her death.she deserves more,poor girl never lived the life she deserved

My sister was this way. She very much considered her bio mom her mom. But unlike Candice's story my mother respected that. She didn't force a mother-daughter relationship on her. On top of that my parents adopted my sister because they knew if they didn't she'd probably never have a normal home life. They wanted to give her that in the hopes it would help and because they knew how broken this system is. Every child deserves love.

5 years later, Candace's story still puts me on the brink of tears. And, clearly hearing the anger in Mat's voice makes it even worse. I don't believe anyone deserves to be in pain but, those "Therapists" deserve to suffer the same way Candace did.

The rumors that they said about the girl hitting sibling and destroying things was a lie, the only reason they brought her to that therapy was because they never said "mom," and "dad,". I did my research, they let a child die because of that.. sad. That's what really connects to what Patt said "forced love,", the reason the girl died.

What hurts me is that Jeane, Candace's “Mother” was a nurse. She of all people should have known that the torture Candace endured was dangerous, deadly in her case. I can only imagine what would’ve happened to her if Jeane showed as much neglect towards her patients as she did Candace. People like the therapists and Jeane are why prison exists. Truly abhorrent.

The rage in Mat's voice really got me. at this point in my life I'm used to hearing about awful things, but we all know Matpat was fighting back tears and rage as he read the transcript. It just really got me and surprised me

The therapist's logic: "oh, your 10yo domestic abuse survivor (who probably has a TON of PTSD) isn't acting like you want her to? Well then, let's give her more PTSD before suffocating her so that she learns her lesson!"

even if candace did make it out, she would've been severely traumatized, poor girl.

the thing that really gets me with this video is that matpat kept a quiet and polite tone throughout the video only really occasionally raising his voice to emphasize things which is different from his usual loud and energetic voice. its weird because normally there would be jokes here and there but this video just was quiet and dark which i feel like really makes the whole entire story of this game and everything just a little bit more disturbing than it already is.

I have two cousins that are adopted from the foster system. They are two sweet angels! And the one I believe is around Candace’s age. I couldn’t imagine having this stuff happen, or even my aunt and uncle returning them! This story just breaks my heart and hit really close to home

I was adopted when I was young and after hearing this, I feel very blessed with the family I have. My mother gave me the time I needed to trust her. I couldn't have asked for a better mother.

Hearing this story still sickens me to this day. Knowing I'll have kids of my own, this creates a feeling inside me that makes me wish i could already hold my children close and tell them that I'd never let anything bad happen to them. If I ever caught someone doing this sort of thing to a child... aside from informing authorities, I'm not sure what I'd do.

Put Candace aside for a second. Her siblings, Micheal and Chelsea, weren't taken to a new home. Her siblings were just left in an abusive home.

It's baffling and disturbing that one person would have the idea, let alone a group of adults agree to it. There are so many parts at the beginning that suggest it /could/ have been a good idea and they just take it in an even worse direction every time. Have a child reenact birth? Weird, but okay. I'll buy it. Wrap her in a blanket and put a little weight on her? I suppose that sounds fine. But then the amount of weight, the length of time, the TAUNTING?! Calling her a quitter when it's obvious a ten-year-old child can't escape the weight of even one full grown adult?! How do so many sociopaths/psychopaths find themselves in related occupations?? It doesn't sound like bonding was the goal. It sounds like they intended to torture her from the beginning for being a "problem child." And clearly she wanted to cooperate with this weird and shitty "bonding exercise" and was obviously physically incapable of doing what the adults wanted, whatever that might've been. They could have stopped what they were doing at any time during the whole process and didn't choose to until her body have already shut down. Babies are not "twerps" or "quitters" when they can't birth successfully. Babies aren't even in charge of the birthing process. The mother does all the work. This "mother" stood and watched while a group of people abused the child under her suggestion. I want an explanation for how such a horrible thing could happen and how the punishment wasn't more severe.

This is messed up. She was just little girl. They took her life just because she was scared. At least we know that people care. That people knows she's a fighter.

The character you play as shows what Candace would have gone through during her torture. Inflated cheeks, like holding your breath for an extensive amount of time, and a green complexion like when you are ill with the mouth open like when vomiting. I dunno, I'm more of an observer than a theorist.

I, like Candace, was adopted, and I'm so glad that my new parents didn't try Attachment "Therapy".
