did I just discover an amazing undiscovered youtuber? I agree with pretty much all of your points. Botw is probably the single best game to introduce someone into the world of gaming and maybe even the best game of all time.

I would say totk is better introducing and the best game of all time, but to each their own.

@@lagzie2301 oh i agree with you on best game of all time personally but introducing no. i mean it's literally the sequel and can feel overwhelming at times

@@PhoenixWrightYT00 oh I agree that’s pretty true. Botw has simpler mechanics. Even though zonal isn’t too complicated, it’s just more overwhelming like you said.

Very nice! That's kinda what happened with my girlfriend, who didn't really played any videogames before. But there are downsides to having such a good and "free" game as a first game: when starting a new game, she didn't stick as much, because it was as free. The number of games being a big free world to explore are quite limited, especially such good ones. She was quite sad when she discovered that no, not all games are like that. A minimum amount are actually. No you can't get on a horse and ride on the whole map in every game, not even in every game of the Zelda franchise. But hey, good news! The story of that game being so minimalist, she could at least anchor on that part on other games: a rich and direct story, that you have to follow to discover. Btw, very great quality for such a small channel. I'm here before you blow up, ahah. Keep it up, you earned a new sub, and i'm sure, many more in the future :)

I do really like the points you are making about it but also, Breath pf the wild is a very long game. Which is a big barrier for new gamers. I would think something like “A short hike” would be better for a new player, since it has a lot of the same things you mentioned, but in a much smaller scale, making it easier for the player. Overall, great video! Keep up the good work ☺️

very good, my only pet peeve is the variety of different fonts you are using. also they come and go kinda fast to the point of feeling distracting

Narrative unfolds gradually? Lol, 90% of it is infodumped in a short cutscene 30 minutes or an hour into the game after completing the Plateau's shrines. Sorry, that one just stuck out to me. There is more to discover after that, though I'd consider most of that to be lore more than story. BotW certainly is designed to be a game for non-gamers, that's for sure though. Not to say it doesn't have things that appeal to gamers, but the "game" aspects of it are certainly tailored for beginners. Better as a game than TotK at least. That one barely even deserves being called a game, they took the game out of gameplay in the sequel, lol. Generally agree with what you're saying here though. It eases people into games, though, does so via cutting back on things that would be considered traditional to gaming. There are pros and cons to thing. It's more player freedom, so the players aren't forced into playing specific ways. They're enabled to interact with the world in organic ways and feel a world that feels a bit more real, in a sense. It follows some real world expectations of chemistry and physics. That makes it easier to be immersed. Points of interest are highlighted, but tasks aren't filling up your map like Ubisoft games with an unending to-do list. The to-do list is invisible outside of the quest menu. This is smart to make the game more approachable. The only question is, does the game set up players to play more demanding games? It does a lot of introductory stuff, but it may also bias expectations for realism in terms of chemistry and physics that just won't be met elsewhere, expectations for freedom or how games should allow players to interact with everything and anything they want. So it comes down to the individual player, really. I do know it got my friend to play Zelda and adventure games for the first time, but I also know that it didn't get him interested in playing any other games in the franchise/genres after, not even TotK, which I got for him for his birthday. Anecdotal, but I'd like to see how many people transitioned from BotW as a first time gamer into other games of similar or petaled genre.

lol no totk is better than Botw in almost every way. Traversing the world, worldbuilding, mechanics, dungeons kind of I guess I mean neither of them have “dungeons”, but totk definitely has more dungeons like temples. But I will say that story can go to either.
@PhoenixWrightYT00

um what are you talking about with totk. that game is absolutely incredible and deserves every bit of praise it got.

@@lagzie2301 I disagree. The arrow fuse mechanic is such a double edged sword it right pissed me off. I hate having to pause every time I want to use a non-standard arrow. Even if it's just for a second, it adds up with the constant bow useage. I also think the story they told was less fitting for the delivery method, which annoyed me, and I didn't like ultrahand and found recall to be more utility for my own mistakes, like dropping something off a sky island 90% of the time, so I didn't find as much fun with the powers this time. Also, The Great Plateau was a perfect tutorial. It perfectly encapsulated the game at large in a smaller, controlled section, and gave you complete freedom once you were done. The Great Sky Island is not quite that. It's the pinnacle of Sky Island gameplay, it's a bit clunkier with going back and forth between Rauru and activating the shrines, since you only get 2 at first, and you don't get the paraglider or ability to activate towers until after you get access to the whole of hyrule. Would've been a lot better if you dived all the way into a small section of the depths at the end of the GSI and then there were skyview towers in the depths that could launch you up to the surface, that way you experience Sky, Depths, and end the tutorial on the greater landscape of Hyrule with the paraglider already in hand. These are just a few areas where TotK doesn't quite live up to BotW. That said, BotW was really incomplete in a lot of ways. Or, I suppose, minimally complete. A lot of aspects felt like they really could've and should've been fleshed out, and TotK seemed to try to do that, but had a lot of stumbles along the way. Like I hate how ultrahand and especially autobuild really invalidate every other mode of transportation and generally affect the pace of the game
