Gaming In Obscurity--Episode 4--Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs 

Hi Truekid, Not a lot of people know that Mammoth Mountain (MM) was the 3rd game in my adventure theme trilogy. Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs (LVD) was first, followed by Escape from Atlantis. MM was based in the Ice Age with lots of Woolly Mammoths, Sabre-tooth tigers, etc..even a Yeti! Never been published. Stronghold did look at the game, but declined to market it. LVD was originally invented as a strategic game with no dice plus Incas, but Waddingtons redesigned it to 'fit' their market.

When you were 8, this was terrifying. You felt for those little guys. The graphic design is fantastic.

Classic game, had this back in the day and loved it.

I remember playing this one as a kid, I had a lot of fun! The TV add was cool if I remember.

I loved this game. Many fond memories of playing it with my little sister and others. We often used the pteranodon to take an explorer back into its nest, hiding it under the cardboard overlay. I don't remember how they escaped from there...

I can't wait for the next episode!

Hi Ryan, About time I said what a great video you've made of Waddingtons Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs! (LVD) Love the intro, perhaps you should get into movies! The 'red box' version you refer to was a special edition made exclusive for Woolworths. Although Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs sold over 350,000 copies, only 5,000 copies of the 'red box' were made. So if you or any of your viewers have a copy, it's rare! My grandaughters love this game, but my grandsons prefer Escape from Atlantis!

I'd have probably loved this as a kid... if Stronghold ever picked up Mammoth Mountain, I'd hope they'd redo this one as well with the more strategic rules.

@CrossoverRPG It's grails, all right. It's a term some folks use for hard-to-find games. Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs is a great example, as it's almost impossible to find a copy in the US.

actually I just came back on this page a year later as I was talking about this game to my friend last night. I'm from the UK so delivery wasn't so bad. We played it with my friends kids over Christmas and it was a big hit with them too "PTERANODON SWOOPS!" - love that dinosaur dance at 2:23 btw. Are you going to review Survive (I know it as Escape).

I do I expect my game to last for generations! I hate the crapy cardboard buildings in games
