Hello and welcome to this Budget Builds Episode...Which is more of a small side project that I wanted to try out; essentially I picked up a cheap smartphone for £5 off of ebay, and well it was uprising, i'm a big fan of mobile gaming, and android offers you some awesome emulators...But can this phone even run them?
From running the 2000's equivalent to Call of Duty to Nintendo's 90's Flagship, oh and even some Minecraft...We want to see if its possible...
If you'd like to see more content based around this kind of style please do let us know, all views expressed during the podcast are our own views....Also we may conciser live streaming this style of chat show if you did want to see that.

Taimoor Ahmed I would not recommend Android 5 because its it recommendations are 1ghz dual core and 1gig of ram.

Totally not Ben walker Yeah, however PS2 games aren't the same as a DS or GBA game since those games were meant to be played on small screens whilst PS2 games were meant to be played on TVs.

It's surprising to me that you could theoretically use a $75 phone from 2012 for daily tasks and even gaming. Great video, though would have liked to seen some more camera tests.

It probably wouldn't even run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich very well if it is from 2011/2012. Trust me, I know these things. My old Galaxy Ace Plus from 2011 is on Gingerbread 2.3 My old ZTE Blade 3 from 2012 runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich very abysmally. It locked up very often and I couldn't use it for more than 6 months. Don't get anything older than 2013/2014. edit: Well, I am surprised! Not bad performance, but still, I wouldn't use that.

I had a Sony Xperia Tipo which has the same processor but a 360p screen and it wasn't that bad! (and got even better after installing an android 4.1.2 custom rom!)

The Xperia Play had the same CPU at 1Ghz and the same GPU, however RAM was 512MB. Just shows how wasted the specs were with the Optimus L3

Xperia Play had Adreno 205, not 200. The Xperia X10 had Adreno 200. Also, the CPU was Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon S2 (Xperia), not Qualcomm MSM7225A Snapdragon S1 (LG).

This phone has 1gb internal. you had 100 mb, and it wasnt because of the bloatware. LG cut the internal. 300mb to apps and 700mb for anything else. (messages,moving apps, etc...) you had 1gb after installing that rom cuz it had the SD Merge feature.

The con is that the rest of the phone's hardware bottlenecks the CPU, meaning it's total overkill and just makes the phone more expensive without any real benefit.

Miruku There was an Assassins Creed, Guitar Hero, Need For Speed and various others for mobile phones from 2005-2010. Programmed in Java mainly. So this is not bullshit. Just search for God of War Java 320x240 or 240x120

@Miruku Nope, Back before android phones ran java and a lot of 2d games also ran on java which were based around popular games at the time. of was pretty cool. if you want to play them try java emulator on android store and duckduckgo it.

I fell kind of identifyied with this video. I use a Sony Xperia E1 as my daily driver, it only has 500mb of ram and 2gb of storage which is starting to show its age. But i have to say is still very usable, i can game on it, make phone calls, text messages, watch videos on youtube at 480p and surf the web with no problem. I dont think i would have too many problems using this LG scince im used to running out of ram.

Definitely. Lumia 930 for me. It wasn't that bad of a phone at all, frankly, but the fact that it runs Windows Phone renders it near-useless especially in the long term.

if all you were doing was gaming, you could have gotten much better specs for the money. For example, the zte maven 3 was 8 dollars on sale earlier this week with a quad core snapdragon 210, and a 5 inch screen. The catch is that it's locked to a carrier but you don't have to activate to get it so if you wanted to play games only, it would be a much better option. It's crazy how good cheap phones have gotten!

AccessGranted - how?? It has 3gbs of ram a "6-core" actually at 4-core at 2.39GHz. with two underpowered cores, a three core gpu and nevertheless the operating system..ah so sad that you know nothing about electronics... Even chromebooks beat it!

It's really an excellent gaming device. I have one that's been dedicated to Game boy and GBA games. When played in portrait you very a lovely native resolution which longs beautiful for these games.
