I don't know if this has changed in the remastered version, but (Chaos)Fire-Storm/Tempest actually has a longer range downhill. If you stand on a hill and cast, the fire-pillars will appear further away down the hill than up. It's still a bit luck based, but you can sometimes catch people a really long way off because they don't expect it to hit them (there was a spot in the catacombs where it would actually cross the gap and hit someone on the opposite ledge). Once again I haven't played the remastered version, so this may not apply anymore. That's all I have to add, other than I'm enjoying your videos =)
It's really interesting seeing the resurgence of these DS1 videos with new people coming to similar techniques as old uploaders. Dex/Pyro is definetly one of the more dynamic playstyles in the game.
Fire Tempest is way way way better than firestorm. To the point where firestorm is useless. Chaos firestorm is still ok vs fire Tempest due to the lava pillars. I still prefer tempest. How do people now know this exists? To upgrade your pyro to +15 then ascend +5 and get all the best ones you deal with the Chaos Covenant and Quelana. She specifically tells you hey guy, do me a favor and kill bed of chaos which might be my mom. So ya like ok master. On ya way you get invaded by her sister. She's like noooo stay away from my mom. You kill her. Kirk gets mad prob was his girlfriend so he invadedes 1 sec later and you kill him. That awards you a chest that gives chaos fire whip around the corner. Must use for PvP imo but each their own. Anyway you kill BoC and you remember Quelana ask you to do it so hmmmmm maybe we go back to her?? When you walk back to her she says yay you did it thanks yada yada here's mof'in fire Tempest. You can also kill an egg dude to make one mad let it attach to you. Wait 4 mins and your head turns into a parasite. If you talk to egg dude by spider waifu in chaos covenant then he will cure you and start selling toxic mist.
This is pretty cool and super similar to DarksoulsMindEye's pyro build for gank hunting. If you look him up he has pyro tutorials that are super helpful. One thing you can do is go from fire surge to fireball since fire surge forces them to walk or roll in one direction which makes landing fireball super easy.
Interesting video and take on pyro build, I have used pyro sense I played dks1 but don’t see any in-depth videos about them. I go for 37 poise instead of 76 because everything above that I just toggle and without the extra health helps if u get BSed. But with most ppl not as backstab hungry the poise helps u get chaos storm off.
Really cool video. Awesome build. Excellent explanation. I do need to ask though, you clearly got backstabbed a couple of times in that video, and each time you lost no health whatsoever. How does that happen?
When two players backstab each other at the same time, rather than awarding 1 of the players the backstab at random, it plays the animation of one person getting backstabbed without actually dealing any damage, and without locking the backstabber into an animation. It's most often seen when 2 people both circle around each other and get a backstab on their screen. It's somewhat connection-based, in that sometimes one player will actually just get it every time, and at other times it will deal no damage every time. It can also happen if the person backstabbing takes any kind of damage during the startup of the animation, but it's less common than the simultaneous backstab.
Yo black flame doesnt scale with the dusk crown or Bellowing Dragoncrest ring. I do about 900 damage with great combustion while I have power within active. Chaos firestorm also one shots anyone with 1200 health or less. I made a female pyromancer and named her The Hot Grill.
The Crown of Dusk and the Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring definitely increase Black Flame (and all Pyromancy) damage, despite their tooltips not actually mentioning Pyromancy. Power Within is a good choice, and has an additive effect with the aforementioned two items, which can make for some crazy damage for sure :)
Love the video, but I don’t agree with your opinion on Fire surge. It’s great for chip damage, and finishing off people at low health. People also, in my experience anyway, try to run and back stab me while I’m using it, which I can usually punish
I like the idea of backstab baiting, but I don't think chip damage really has a place in the forest. You basically need to 1 shot someone or they'll just ninja flip away and heal behind phantoms, so the amount of time where it's useful (compared to something like a Fire Storm) is on the lower side.
When two people backstab each other simultaneously, one person gets stuck in the knockdown animation, while the other person can move freely, but neither take damage - you can just about see how the other player is moving prior to their animation ending on my screen, since they aren't actually locked into the animation (and on their screen, they aren't even in that backstab animation).
With only 1 slot, Black Flame is probably your best bet. It's extremely strong in both PvP and PvE. If you don't have it yet, Great Combustion is also fine.
For PvE I absolutely think the best spell is Power Within. Just wait till the bosses and then cast on yourself to up your damage output and stamina Regen. Using the Lingering Dragoncrest Ring (which you can switch to just before the boss fight) and you'll have a ~40% damage buff for the first 100-150 seconds of the boss fight.
I just tried this chracter and I hate it. My other one was doing way better with dex/pyro 1990 hp and 77 poise with ring of favor and havels ring. This gold tracer is shit, chaos blade was way better. I have no health now and backstabs are tough. I'm dueling in oolacile township getting smashed when before I was winning. My other char was mask of mother. Havels chest, black iron gauntlets, hollow soldier waist cloth, chaos blade, Grass crest shield, havels ring and ring of favor. Fast roll 1990 hp tons of stamina and 77 poise. I just can't play with your build it's not good for me
What really sucks is I killed manus in ng+ to get the crown of the dusk to try out this build and now all I can get is gank squads cuz I can't get invaded anymore in oolacile township. So yea I went back to my normal build, it feels way better and has way higher stats. I'm not sure about these gank squads in the forest but the ones in oolacile township are much harder and higher level, use walk of peace heavy weapons etc. also, I feel like your build is just a fish for backstabs which sucks if you're playing People who actually know how to duel. Chaos blade is way better imo
