I love my Ganzo knives. When I started out the thought of spending $50-$150 on a knife was crazy to me. The Ganzo gave me a chance to try different things out at a reasonable price. Over time I then developed the desire to see what the "real thing" was like. I went on to purchase half a dozen or so Spyderco knives I would never have owned but for Ganzo. I like my Delica and my PM2 but it's the Ganzo equivalents that end up in my pockets most days. Regarding the knife at hand, I bought one of each color except black for roughly $33 total--about half the cost of a new Delica. As long as they are putting their own logo on it I'm good. I probably have as big an issue with America makers producing in China but maintaining incredibly high mark-ups. At some point design is a sunk cost. If "X" can produce at the same level and make a profit at $8 why are you ripping me off at a 200% mark-up?

Ganzo manufactures knives for Boker Plus so how are you gonna say that the steel is softer than Boker when they are exactly the same.

Great review. It convinced me to buy the Ganzo. If I can have a delica with 440c for 10 bucks why wouldnt I? I can have 5 of them for the same price. All this means is competition. If Ganzo can produce a better Spec knife for cheaper it kinda tells you what spyderco is doing. You're paying for the name again. Ganzo all day baby

The CEOs of Benchmade, Spyderco, and Ganzo sit down at a bar. First the Benchmade guy orders, then Spyderco, then the bartender looks over at Ganzo's CEO. He says "I'll have what they're having... in six months"

Thank you for your review. I immediately went online and bought 10 different Ganzo's, I love them. With all the $ I save not buying Benchmade's, Spyderco's, etc. anymore, I can buy way more Ganzo's. I buy Ganzo's as Christmas, Birthday's, Mother's Day, Father's Day gifts, etc.. Glad I did not pass on these great knives.

Spyderco tried to defend their Spydiehole. Courts said they could not patent a shape of a hole. Ganzo stopped calling their locks "axis-lock" (at the request of Benchmade)... they now call it a "G-lock". Ganzo's 440c has been proven to be good by many many people. Birdshot IV did a side-by-side testing and found it held an edge better than other knives steel. Again, Ganzo has never tried to say they were a Spyderco, they mark all of their knives and boxes as being a Ganzo. A copy not a ripoff or counterfeit. If you are buying a Ganzo it is because you want a Ganzo, you dont think you are buying a Spyderco or Benchmade. It is sad you have changed your view of them. You have, in the past, had good things to say about Ganzo... but I guess this was your limit or whatever. The Byrd line from Spyderco is ok, but I dont like the steels they use most of the time. I own a bunch of Spyderco blades (EDC at least 1 all the time), but I would never buy a Benchmade because of the prohibitive costs. It's funny this year everyone said Benchmade brought their quality up and did better QC checks... and I believe it is because they saw what Ganzo was doing for 1/10th the cost... and realized that they were making mistakes. Ganzo has their place in the lower end market... even if they are direct copy, people dont mind spending $10-$20 for a beater knife that is as well made as what Ganzo seems to produce. I would rather have a Ganzo blade to use & abuse than one of those Walmart/Gas-station/Dollar-store knives, for about the same price. Also, I would rather use a $20 Ganzo on something that might damage it, rather than risk my $75 Spyderco or $125 Cold Steel.

Your argument is kind of bogus. You have no problem buying a Byrd knife that costs 3 times as much as the Ganzo, that is made in the same place, with the same materials, that is marked up much more than a USA made Spyderco, but complain about a company that puts their own logo and spin on the Byrd knife for a price that matches the build and materials. You probably have no problem either buying a Delica 4 that, although made in the USA, is overpriced like the Byrd, just because 'Mericans made it. I can get on board with the argument if they were literally stealing the IP of Spyderco and labeling them as Spyderco and are true counterfeits. I would be willing to bet that Spyderco has an agreement with Ganzo that they can sell this knife the way it is, with the majority of them being sold in and to a different market than a Byrd or Spyderco. The smart knife buyer can make their own decisions and your tired "China made sucks" rant is just about making you feel more patriotic while you shop at Walmart for all the junk you need and the soap that obviously doesn't clean your hands that is made in China. I really doubt Spyderco is losing much money on this knife as the buyers of the 2 are in totally different knife buying classes. Also, I can bet you that there are plenty of people that buy the Ganzo to see if a Delica would be worth the money before they spend the $70 for a plastic handled knife that honestly is hard to justify the purchase for the money. You can get a Benchmade mini grip for not much more that is much better than a Delica. When a $10 clone is as close to the quality of a $70 Delica, it speaks loudly of the Delica and its price. I have a first generation Delica that I paid $30 for new that is much closer to what a Delica should be, ala the Byrd. Heck, I can get a G10 Byrd Meadowlark that is sooo similar to my old Spyderco Wegner for like $35 and I can actually take the Byrd apart! What has changed in that time but the greedy American manufacturers and high paid American workers. The labor cost is what makes a USA made Spydie so expensive, not even close to being the quality/cost of materials. The only difference in materials cost is a slightly more expensive blade material.

I have never been a fan of the Spyderco brand. My brother has had several of them over the past 25 years or so. That’s what made me buy a Ganzo copy of a Spyderco for $14. I simply was not paying what Spyderco wanted. Was not happening! A co worker has a newer model and I am not that jazzed with it. I went on a binge and bought 4 Ganzos on the low to see what the fuss is about. I bought a brand name as well.

Firebird Trans AM vs Chevy Camaro....no one complained they were copies....almost every hunting rifle you can find can be called copies...all my 30.06's look the same from across the room....and the bullets that go in them...every brand makes the same type of bullet with subtle differences....but if the chinese do it with knives...we get bent....I for one think that Ganzo has impacted this knife industry in a postive way towards the consumer end...without companies like Ganzo, Sanrenmu and others...the high/middle end companies like Benchmade can price their over priced knives at any level without worry....Ganzo and these types of companies tend to bring back dollar to value concept.....its only time that over priced knives will have to compete in the dollar range...and thats good for the consumer...I cant complain about that.
@Zelrick42
@Zelrick42 5 лет назад
Usually I don't respond to this video any longer but your arguments are so full of holes.... Trans-Am and Camaro - made by the same parent company, it's totally legit to copy yourself. Guns- the majority of the mechanism patents ran out about 100 years ago. Bullets are standardized, with the exception of wildcat rounds because the industry realized they needed to do a bit to keep idiots from hurting themselves. I own several hand guns, most of them work exactly the same, however none of them are exactly the same, they are each significantly different from each other. If not, Glock would have sued them all for trade dress. If Spyderco could prove that Ganzo warehoused knives in the US or Europe they would sue and rightly so. However, Ganzo uses third parties to warehouse outside of China, making it impossible to do anything legally to stop them. It is no secret that designers learn from those that went before them, however the honest and moral designer doesn't blatantly copy nearly every detail of the previous designer. They iterate, making the design better or more in line with their own style.

@@Zelrick42 Let me ask you something my friend....is there a public post or announcement from anyone from Spyderco or Benchmade putting out statements putting out a public complaint about this...anywhere????? If so please direct me to those posts or videos...and if not...why are you so upset about this? The consumer is the one that benefits...not the multi-dollar corporations....and dodging Ganzo as a product off your review list only alienates a very big part of the market....not everyone can afford a 200 dollar knife....but way more can afford that cheap 20 dollar knock off and and many more will defend the right to buy one without being judged for it.

@@Lemonhoko I'm a designer, these companies rip off my work. Go ahead and support them, get the Ganzo. Or you could spend a dollar or two more for the Byrd model and support the company that pays the designers engineers and Craftsmen and women that brought the item to life. Your choice, but if people like us stop getting paid, your available selection grows very narrow, the price/quality gap grows wide, Ganzo no longer has to use reasonable materials and all your cheap but reasonable knives go away, but that doesn't matter because you saved $2 by not purchasing Byrd model. Have a great day.

The G759 is so close to the Meadowlark that there must be some sort of agreement between Ganzo and Spyderco - otherwise Spyderco would have them in court. I think the G759 is actually a marketing tool for the Byrd line (and probably Spyderco in general). As some other commenters have said, I too purchased several Byrd and Spyderco knives because I was so impressed with the G759.

When a company decides to have their knives made in China, this is what they get. Spyderco may have even had to agree to allow the factory to sell similar knives to get this Chinese factory (essentially owned by the government) to make these knives for Spyderco for cheap, or if not, they knew this could happen. As far as I am concerned, that is on them, not on me. Spyderco could say hey, stop making these ganzo copies of our knives or we will have someone else make these knives - in other words, it is up to Spyderco to protect their designs if they want. When you buy a ganzo, I suspect you are buying directly from the supplier, rather than going through a middleman like Spyderco. You could buy a ganzo and send a check for 50 bucks to Spyderco if it makes you feel better.

The Ganzo 740 isn't a clone of anything and its a BEAST folder. Its a 4" FFG blade in G10 scales and sports the "G Lock". Ive found it to have equal cutting performance to my $130 dollar Spyderco Millie, It doesn't hold an edge as long as Spyderco's S30v, however Ganzo's 440c is far easier to sharpen and keeps a working edge longer than AUS8.

When you outsource the manufacturing of your products to China, to take advantage of the manufacturing costs and sell it at three times the reasonable price for the sole reason of your name, you KNOW that the same factory will produce a ripoff with the same materials and sell it for the real price. Worse, since Spyderco wanted its low-end line to have blades made of an equivalent of 440a steel to not disturb its hig-end line, when, for few cents for blade more, they could have had them made of 440c like the Ganzo ones, so the result is that the rip-off is better than the original.

The sad thing is this happens in manufacturing every day. In the industry they call it a logo change. For example you have two cans of corn on the shelf. What can do you pick. The more advertised brand or the cheaper? Both cans are out of the same plant. That's where branding takes place. As consumers it's best to know your maker.

I do agree on this about many Ganzo design but they gave me the opportunity to buy many knife design i would of not been able to do so in the major make for the 70 ish i've bought, (yup crazy) i would of gotten only 10 spyderco or benchmade or any other design, so the question is do you like me care about shape, style and color or Make. I fully understand trade marl issue but couldn't resist owning style more then make, At least they are not sold as there counterpart as real spyderco or others, they at least have there own branding. No make believe spydi. But all in all copy of sort. As for quality 440C steel Birdshot IV demonstrated that it outlasted the 8Cr13 Mov in the Rat 1. That is my take on it but your opinion is as valid as mine. Always entertaining.

Why should a Spyderco PM2 cost now arkund 200$ as I have seen them and an Ganzo 729 costs 23$? As long as the Ganzo has really 440C stainless steel. I have seen Ganzos of an different model with an 440A steel which sells for 10$. So the steel usedis a factor but they claim the 440C has an HRC of 58. As long Ganzo does not lie about the steel used I am fine with them. On Spyderco you pay at least 150$ for the name and american salaries again which are 10 times higher asthe chinese ones. An Spyderco Paramilitary 2 should cost around 40 USD and not more.

Lots of people giving you crap about this but I do see you're point. I know a lot of people like ganzo due to affordability but for me it's just not a quality product. I wouldn't trust their locking systems as much as a a normal companies like benchmade a axis vs theirs. I can tell though use that benchmade sis just better. Spyderco liner locks are also more consistent than theirs. I've owned the 732 and a copy of an HK knife as well as one other. However I've never owned a Byrd. If I'm gunna buy a spyderco, I'll just buy a spyderco. And as for steel. I don't care for their supposed 440 it seems more like 3cr13 or 440A. Very soft.

I was okay with them doing "spin-offs". Ontario Rat 1 (G727), Benchmade 940 (G756), especially some Protech (F753M which I own and love). They had different sizes, proportions, handle constructions, two of them different locks than the "original" knives. Really they were Ganzo knives designed to remind of some familiar shape (blade type, handle curves). But here they made an exact copy of a design in every detail. Don't you think it's going a little too far? They could easily have changed some elements to appear different, even just screws...

thanks for making this video zelrick! i hate ganzo for copying other peoples designs for their own profits. people clearly buy them because they look like well known knives, so its clearly an issue. they also have lots of shills that go around saying these things are great, when they are complete junk in most cases. very soft 440C g10 with carbon fiber layer on it lol these are nothing but poor folks letter openers. if they made there own models no one would buy them anymore.

Extremely arrogant comment. Us "poor folks" like and enjoy knives too. I'm not speaking to the Ganzo debate, but I do know that not everyone can afford benchmades and ZTs.

Talking a lot of shit about a Chinese knockoff of a Chinese made knife... What Ganzo does is take good features of different knives and build them into their knives using budget materials. And made with better steel.

Sorry I don’t get this? It’s okay for an American knife manufacturer to get some of there knives made in China,but we can’t buy a Chinese made knife because it’s cheaper.Ganzo knives are an excellent made knife for the working class man who can’t afford $100 for a VERY similar made knife.

Knife snobs. Like car snobs. I'll pay more for the logo so others can see me flash my cash. A knife, sharp steel, folds, going in pocket, and can cut. A car, steering wheel, seat, door, and can go fast. It's all a matter of how much you're willing to pay.

I disagree with your idea of what a "copy "is. I have never seen Ganzo copy a knife. I used to work in rapid prototypes and we could copy any Spyderco so close the manufacturer couldn't tell. I'm sure Ganzo could do this if they want. I really never liked the "form and function" argument since Apple used it on Samsung, I mean what is a cell phone supposed to look like? A knife is a handle with a blade. Who came up with the flipper? They s/b rich.

I think you’re overthinking it. It’s a knife! If it’s made well why care where it’s made from. Ridiculous video.

I believe it is better to have one or two good knives than 5 junk knives. They feel better in the hand.

“Probably,” “I don’t know,” “maybe” - you didn’t do much research before offering an opinion, rather than review and in either case you come off sounding like you don’t know what you’re talking about.

When they use their names or styles is because their patent pending rights have expired!😉

I used to own some Ganzos and other Chinese knives. I've gotten over the fixation about getting similar designs at cheaper prices. I sold them all so I can get the real thing. For a knife fan, you just don't feel pride in owning them and they're definitely not worthy of showing off.

Great, when the knife is reduced to just a pocket jewelry instead of an actual tool

I doubt they are made in the same factory. Designs are stole/copied and built in different factories all the time. Ive bought a 3 meadowlark 2's (2 as gifts) and one of these G759's (to throw in my range bag) and the main difference I can tell is the Ganzo's FRN doesn't feel as nice. I still hold that Ganzo does the knife world more good than harm. I never buy Ganzo's 'instead' of the original. They are more for beater blades or gifts to non-knife-nerd people who wouldn't be buying themselves knives anyways.

Zelrick, knives have being made for so long now that every knife made is a copy or has imitation designs of other knives. Stop being so but hurt about it and get off your high horse.

The ripoff is paying 50 more dollars for the same Chinese made knife. I don't care about spydercos profit I just need a knife on me and I ganzo is delivering that knife.
