Parasitic drain is not only annoying but it can run down your customer’s battery, leaving them stranded. Finding the source of parasitic drain can be a time-consuming process when using the traditional method of measuring the voltage draw across the fuse while it’s plugged in. In this video, Master Technician Ryan Payne of Garage Gurus shares a technique for tracking down the cause of parasitic drain using a thermal imager. Ryan demonstrates how to use a thermal imager and how to use the information to compare to the fuse layout to find the source of the drain. Count on Garage Gurus to help you get your vehicle repair done right. Visit Garage Gurus at www.garageguru... for more tips and information for your vehicle.

That’s works very nice with a 10amp draw and shows great, but how often do you get a 10amp draw it’s normally 500 milliamperes or less. How well does it work on a milliamp draw?

Verify valid point, I’ve had vehicles draw .050 mAmps and kill batteries over night, I’m skeptical to see how the thermal picks up that little of current.

Yep, That was my first thought. However, this technique does work well with small currents.

What about a small drain?

Depends on the quality of the tool bought. I have a Flir that attaches to my phone.....it'll show a .030 very well, and that's a standard draw on a lot of vehicles today.

Wouldn't it be great if you had a actual vehicle with a problem so it would be a real demonstration? Why would you even show this?
