Links to all the bits now in the description - if you want a seperate video showing the winch in more detail just say - more than 5 people want it and I'll do one 😁
"I've used it to winch my kids up into the rafters" *10 seconds later* "I wouldn't use it for anything important obviously" 😂 Top content as usual Mark, keep it up
I lived in a van for 4 years. I live now in an small double room in a hostel. (I can literally extend my arm from the bed and touch the bike). I don't have so much space but my TT bike is permanently on the trainer, ready to get the training done. I trained 3 half IM living in a van (training at the local gym and outside) and 3 full IRONMAN living in our small bedroom. For me, space is irrelevant, more you have more you store. Don't give up on your IRONMAN dream. Keep training hard like you do. Great video like as usual.
One of the best, most useful, relatable and actionable videos I've seen on RU-vid, period. My garage gym is mostly optimized, now I need to apply your 3 Rules for Storage, especially: "Nothing Unnecessary" and "Nothing on the Floor". I am also a fan of extra hooks close at hand, though mine are red! Thanks!
Sink idea is genius. I was watching your fitness videos and this was suggested. It has given me some inspiration to transform my garage now. Thank you.
Painted walls - best thing I ever did - like you I had a crossover of getting the house and moving in, with the garage empty I went wild with the emulsion. Bright, white, looks better and also helps keep the brick dust to a minimum.
Mark, best garage gym upgrade I've seen in ya videos was the hanging 'sweat' towel for the kikr bike, far better than drapping on the bars ... thank you for that one
Too much storage going on to call it a gym. Although I totally agree on the gym flooring as a priority. Painting the walls and lighting are low priorities if your using it to work out and dont care about filming. Love your work!
The winch system and low profile lighting genuinely bordering on genius. Now, what about the stench factor/ air circulation/ventilation? If your sweat quotient is anything to go by, your bike rides must produce prodigious aroma. Do you crack the garage door in the dead of winter? Fan in summer?
This video is perfectly timed, looking at doing a big garage sort. Some great solutions. Could you possibly link the floor tiles, lights and garage door you have.
@@MarkLewisfitness great tip on the lights - am planning to replace some old fluorescent strips with those led panels. What colour temp do you have? Read some reviews saying that 5000k is a bit harsh on the eyes for long periods, and suggesting 4000k instead.
Fun & useful video, thanks. A sound system would definitely be in my top five. Blasting music of my choice makes garage workouts so much more enjoyable than a commercial gym. No dinky usb speakers either, spend a few hundred bucks on decent used components if you can afford it.
Don’t keep hold of crap…..sell it, give it away or bin it……😎 (working on this one) I just seem to move my crap into bigger spaces and areas! Recently rented a lock up to store crap…..🙄
Hey Mark, great video's you are posting and I love what you have done to organize your garage. I'm sure you get asked a lot about the storage units you have in your video for the nuts and bolts the blue and red ones ? Have you got a brand name for the ones you purchased in the UK so I can look on Amazon or some other website I've tried looking for but find nothing even remotely similar? Please if you can help me with a brand name of the units I can focus my search.
Thanks for showing us around, that’s one very organised garage, above average for sure. What was the floor matting you used? Definitely needed in my garage. I now want to pull my down my garage ceiling just so I can fit a winch system 👀😂😂😂
I can live with my cheap floor mats and I can deal with crap on the floor from time to time, but not having climate control makes a garage in south Florida unusable 9 months out of the year. As soon as that AC went in my training time doubled and I looked forward to being on the trainer rather than out on the bike!
how`s the flooring held up? just doing my new garage gym at the moment and remembered you had a video on it a while back and im pondering flooring options.
WOW, that is very impressive. Above Average... actually that's above the rest of the universe. A very much worth it investment in your mental health, I have often thought, gee your pain cave was well set up and after seeing this video I can see just how truly amazing the space is. 👏👏🥇. I'm sure you could get paid to design people's workout areas. You have thought of everything right down to the little scum who like nothing more than stealing what you have worked so hard for. You are an inspiration to the human race of how we all should be and think. 👏👏👏
Mark wonderful video and definitely stealing ideas any chance you can give me a link to the bike racks you use and the storage containers shown at min 2:13 ? Oh the the airwolf intro on the garmin review was brilliant. Thank you for the inspiration....
I'm going to set up my garage/powerlifting gym/pain cave in the next couple of weeks and I knew that saving this video on Watch Later would help me. I'm in a different situation because unluckily the ceiling is just at 2.42 meters but great advice about the light, the wall color, and the floor indeed. I'm also adding a good automatic ventilation control system because we have more than 30°C in the summer with a lot of humidity. I have a question about your ceiling. Did you clean up everything recently over there on the top? Or there are no spiders at all in the UK? Here in Italy, after few days you'd find lot of massive spiders inside your backpacks and all the stuff you have above your head.
Luckily we don’t have too many massive spiders! I don’t know what it is but it never really gets too many webs in here…..I’m sure the odd one hides somewhere but it’s pretty clean. Maybe the Rocky music puts them off 😂
Destroyed your badass image when you panned over the badminton rackets. Quick replace with football (American) or hockey stick. J/K great tips. Thanks.
I don’t think he has any heating methods, he always used to say how freezing it is in there. Something may have changed idk. Nonetheless, if you are worried about moisture, there is paint that will work called dry-lock. There is probably other kinds as well. Also there are multiple heating solutions, maybe you could look into installing insulation and garage heaters. For my small set up I use a garage heater with temperature sensors and timers. Honestly, I would suggest to go to a home depot or lowes and talk to somebody there with experience if you are able to.
Hi.....it's a great bit of kit!!! Here's a link for 20% off!!! mention-me.com/me/referee/registerko/87209169/349283989/er/e18f5d4a436b5808b0c2ba34732d7c4508074f3e/fe/cw?epr=1
but......dont pay extra for their stick on velcro badges/flags, etc - just look on amazon for velcro badge and you can get any you want made up for way less $$$
@@markgallagher1377 ahhh….hooks the door open! It is a fire door so regulations require that it is sprung to automatically close. So when I need to keep it open, it needs hooking back!
@@MarkLewisfitness Cheers. Museum of London has a reconstructed Anglo-Saxon hut and I loved the hooks in that. British Museum has traditional Korean house and the way they made hooks is beautiful. Hooks are a very old and seriously underrated piece of technology. (Yes, my partner thinks my hook fetish is seriously weird - I say I'm an engineer and appreciate good ideas that work well).
@@markgallagher1377 I love a good hook!!! Such a simple idea - when I camp I have little hooks all over the inside of my tent for torch, food, knife, whatever! If its on the floor I always think..."could that be hooked up!" :)
I'm a nurse and have worked in the UK. Budget and save, if you're desire is above average to achieve your goals anything is possible. I have ordered the pully system for rock climbing although never thought of using it for that purpose, shame I don't have a garage or a lift space lol. Remember, buy cheap buy twice, make it last and look good.
@@patbriggsmbr There are always things you can cut back on or go for cheaper options and make different lifestyle choices. I am a single parent only working 20hrs a week and I still manage to save. Not saying it's easy, but it is possible. I needed help from friends, so don't be afraid to ask the people around you for help or advice. It took some serious life changes and dedication to get in the right mind set, but once I saw results, I was really motivated to keep it up, and not fall back into my old ways. It's just like training and fitness. YOU CAN DO IT!
@@patbriggsmbr nurses get paid really well with shift allowances etc. The police in Scotland don’t get any shift allowances, just basic pay regardless if you work night shift or weekends so be grateful
Three fans…. Do long sessions early in the morning and sweat a lot 😂. The temp is the one thing I never sorted (summer or winter) just no cheap and easy solution 🙄
@@MarkLewisfitness Yeah, I'm with ya there. I have some friends who swear by the fancy Dyson ones. Just couldn't justify the spend (well the wife would murder me). I'll keep my money and continue to sweat. Great content as always 👍
Hey Kevin, maybe not relevant now as you might have splashed out on a Dyson but I have a couple of Draper Expert wall mountable fans. This link shows the model but is sold out - www.machinemart.co.uk/p/draper-20-wall-mounted-remote-control-fan/ I'd hugely recommend whatever equivalent Draper are now selling although you might be looking at about £200 each. I paid about £90 for the ones above 5 years ago and they are amazing. Like taking a hurricane to the face on the slowest speed. Hopefully you can find something from them if you're not sorted already.
