Caolan Glackin Garda need to be recorded at all times like anyone else for your personal safety, it's not against the law it's perfectly legal, at the way things are going you'd need a camera on ya 24/7
The Gardai should have just dragged the man to one side and let the van pass. What are we paying them for if they can`t do something as simple as that.
Cameras make them stop and think. Without the cameras they would have been in boots first. Any one want to take my statement under the child protection act. Loads of information about a little weasel breaking the law.
What a waste of time, energy and money Irish Water is causing far too much hassle for everyone. There's bound to be something else the gardaí could be doing. The water lads should realise people don't want ìt and stop installing the meters. Maybe a better idea to fix all the pipes and sewers get them all drip free then tackle the household charges. I think they'll find more water runs down the sewers from an antiquated, faulty system that is in dire need of rejuvenation. As for Irish Water doesn't enough of the stuff fall out of the sky? It hardly ever stops raining here in this soggy little Island so, wouldn't it be better to treat the rain water and pump that to the public from there - then if needed get a proper estimation of the water used (free of leaks). I'm sure that'd be more acceptable than getting everyone to pay for everything and leave the pipes and sewers in the deplorable state they are in. Also the huge salaries that the head staff have are ridiculous obviously just generated by pure greed - water should be free, but, if an excess of average usage is constantly used then maybe that would be grounds for a water bill. It all really depends on the household usage. A family of four will use a lot more than a family of two it's not their fault just a fact of life. If using hot water becomes too expensive Ireland will start to smell/look worse, people won't bathe as often, clothes, dishes, won't be washed as often - maybe toilets wouldn't be flushed as often leading to all manner of germs ➡ illnesses. So fix the pipes first is my opinion and we'll see exactly how much wastage there is from that. Then if it's unavoidable consider the meters. Let the gardaí get on with their job of beating crime instead - there's enough of it around to be investigating.
Sure they have no option, it's install them or be fired but if your talking from the politics side of things it costs a fuck ton of money to purify the water.
The Gardai themselves were threatening to break the law recently by going on strike and admitted they would be breaking the law. That is the whole reason for a protest. A person has to make a stand in a reasonable manner even if it breaks the law in a minor manner.
How is this 'bullying'? Although I agree with your protest, I don't think exaggerating things helps with any cause. It just makes your protest appear weak and pathetic. You have valid points, but to call the Gardaí bullies for doing the job they are employed to do is ridiculous. That Garda was one of the most polite member of any police force I have ever seen. He dealt with you in a very good manner. Also, you claimed that you were recording in case you needed it for evidence.....but yet you neglected to show the faces of any of the protesters. How can you use that video evidence if you don't also show who the apparent 'victim' is??
