Aquilegias, Granny's Bonnets or Columbine are old fashioned cottage garden plants. This particular one, Aquilegia chrysantha, is interesting in that is has large yellow flowers with long spurs and is fragrant, it flowers in early summer. It will grow to between 2' 6" and 4' (75cm - 1.2m.) in sun or part shade. They like well drained but moisture retentive soil that does not dry out. They do not like root disturbance, having a long tap root, so propagation is by seed sown as soon as it is ripe in the summer. Cut back old flower stems after flowering and after seeding if you want this to happen. They are not long lived plants so keep sowing that seed. Please Note they are a member of the buttercup and are poisonous.

Hiya I have 'McKana giant mixed' seeds, do I pot the seeds or start the germination procedure indoors 1st? I live near the coast in Northumberland Uk, maybe not the warmest of places lol!
