We ordered four new Llagas Creek turnouts and Mike built them to our specifications! Mike built them so they would drop right in where the original turnouts were.
After rebuilding the outdoor railroad two years ago we changed to Llagas Creek code 250 nickel silver flex track on their new plastic tie strips. Looks SUPER. Works GREAT. However, we had three old turnouts hand laid on wood ties as part of the new railroad. The turnouts were about ten years old, and not in good shape, but I rebuilt them and they have been working. Sort of.
So the plan was this summer to take them up and make repairs. But Mike at Llagas Creek told us about their new turnouts on plastic ties. Mike hand builds these one at a time so they can be any size, any rail, and even different switch stands or throws mounted on either side. Electrical connections can be made to suit as well.
SO... We ordered four of them Three to replace the failing turnouts and one to finish the mine siding. They are GREAT!!!!!!

We’ve been running trains out there, but it’s always a challenge going through those failing switches. Now it’s a joy to just run the train through there and not even think about it! And for the first time ever, I switched out a train at the mine tipple.

Hi Gunny. Yup. Not as hot here this summer. Yet still to hot to run. High 90s. A few 100+. But now mostly perfect. Except for rain. And we had a project dumped on us. We have a rental house and the people moved out and left us the mess from hell. And the roof was leaking and they never said anything because I guess they didn’t want us to see the mess? Anyway two months of work there. But finally back to livable. Oh.. and it’s cost $40,000. Mostly the new roof. But still…

All that type of electrification and juicey froggy stufff is why I decided to convert all my engines to r/c battery control. no more conductivity issues!

I was planning that with aluminum rails. Works well. But I love locomotives. Have 45 of them. And that’s an expensive conversion. Soooo DCC and nickel silver. Amazing stuff.

Greetings from England! Always great to see your trains. Whilst I like the 'Connie' locomotives, how's your K-27 project coming? Didn't you have Accucraft ones; one with an altered cab? Mine's 463. Whoooo whoooo! 👍
@ToyManTelevision
@ToyManTelevision 11 месяцев назад
All 👍. Need to get back on mine. Don has his Accucraft about 90% finished. My Bachmann is still stock. I need to install the DCC at least so we can run it. And my Accucraft is still a bench project.

A turn table would need to be custom built I figure a Y would work better as you don’t need to build anything special
@ToyManTelevision
@ToyManTelevision 11 месяцев назад
At the south end a wye. At the mine probably just this. But inside a turntable. The original plan was a dog bone outside, but it just takes up so much room and would be difficult to mow the lawn and everything so we’re just trying to keep it simple

Dale - This was fascinating to watch. Where do you buy those wire connectors and spade lugs? And, are they weather proof (I would assume so). I was thinking they would be great for 12v outdoor landscape lights (the kind they use to call “Malibu Lights?. Although I am slowly switching over to the better solar spot lights, I still want to keep the 12v lights that I have had for years.

Amazon. The key is having the proper crimping tool. The tee connection is crimped with large pliers. But having the exact right size is key. And using the right size tee connector for the wire. And practice first cause it’s tricky. Then the spade lugs. You REALLY NEED the crimping tool. Expensive. But you load the spade into the tool, strip the wire and stick it in the spade lug, crimp and perfect. Then you just plug it in. But you need to check alignment because the lug can go in behind the connector instead of inside it.
@FunAtDisney
@FunAtDisney 11 месяцев назад
@@ToyManTelevision Thank you - that is great information and tips. Overall I really liked the neatness of it all, and the ease (relatively speaking) of “plugging” in one wire to another. And your outdoor layout is looking good!

Are you planning on adding a turn-table at the far to turn and engine around? 🙂
@ToyManTelevision
@ToyManTelevision 11 месяцев назад
Nope! Well, let me explain at the far south end where the tracks just go up towards the fence that’s going to be a huge wye. The other end, which is inside has a huge turn table at the locomotive shop. For the time being released, and probably forever, mine is simply for mine kind of a dead end area.
@Conn653
@Conn653 11 месяцев назад
@@ToyManTelevision - I understand the concept of a WYE but thought a turn-table would take up less space, so you wouldn't have to build more bench-work.
@ToyManTelevision
@ToyManTelevision 11 месяцев назад
@@Conn653 but a turntable outside is a real maintenance issue.
