As I take a walk around my stepping stone pathway, and as the bees try to stop me several times, I am reminded of how lucky I am to be able to do what do, I have a small space but I utilize every single corner as much as I can to plant flowers that bring me joy!

This area is looking really beautiful. Your coleus does not like sun. You can take them out now and pinch the top and plant the rooted part abd it will grow in a shaded area. You can just plant the top part with the scorched leaves in a pot ot in the ground and keep it watered and it will grow. Coleus is super easy to propagate and grow in shade. High bright sun they don't like. I love your garden🥰
@susans1679
@susans1679 Год назад
I am continually pinching my coleus to get more. I put the cuttings in water til they root (takes only a few days) and then in nursery pots so that I can baby them for a couple of weeks before planting. And I agree part shade to shade is best for most. There are some gorgeous sun lovers but I find even those droop for awhile in the heat of the day.

Alliums really are amazing. I love love the big purple balls of joy. I wish they were in bloom all summer long. Just have to plant more purple things.😊 I'm really going to work hard on irrigation this year. I hate the amount of time I spend watering every day, and it's not even summer yet. I just have so many plants and shrubs. I keep getting more, and they need extra water until they are more established. It's not going to be easy, but in the end, I'm certain I'll be glad I took the time. Thank you for sharing🤗

Two things, I saw Linda Vateur I am not sure how to spell her name but she loves cement planters but hates that stark whitish color too. She takes dirt and rubs the surface and even adds moss sometimes. It is cool and not super clean looking but it makes them look old. Ok the second thing, there is a glue you can spray on your gravel or mulch. It really works on pea gravel to lock it together and it will not move. You might like that. It is a little pricey but might be worth it. You can get that kind of product t big box stores or online. I love your garden and the aliums oh my they are awesome!

Looks gorgeous, particularly the purple and green shades together. I chuckled at the lovely symmetry of your dog in his peeing spots. He's got a design eye too! Although not so good if you are the boxwood. Could you put sacrificial pots in front of the damaged parts? Or would it ruin the look? Or would he just move to where there was a plant? Better than feeding him with something highly unnatural sounding though.

oh my goodness lady, that space is absolutely gorgeous and I love that path! Gardening is magical isn't it? I always think to myself, this is the closest to real magic we are ever going to get. Your garden is beautiful. Also, I caught your grafting video and it inspired me, so now I have a sungold cherry grafted to chocolate cherry and cherokee purple grafted to a mortgage lifter with an especially strong and healthy rootstock. Also, I wanted to add to be careful with that rose, alot of roses these days are grafted to rootstock called Dr Huey's, an ugly red rose with no smell and gangly branches that try to climb. I bought beautiful roses once and planted them out too late. The beautiful roses died but I thought came back the next year waited a long time for a bloom and it was Dr Huey, ugh. That rose is not only ugly but invasive. Anyway, Lovely garden and I enjoy your vids, thanks for sharing!

Concrete stains very easily. They have specific stains for it. If you want to age it up try distressing it with paint. I’ve done it with concrete pavers (the $2 ones from Lowe’s or HD) and cheap acrylic paint from the dollar store. I wanted the pavers to look as though they’d been here forever. So I took a metal file and rounded the edges a bit. I painted them with black brown and green paint to look mossy. I figured once the paint wore off they would be naturally dark and distressed. The paint hasn’t worn off but they look really good.

Beautiful garden. And good videography. For the boxwood browning, you might try to place fence pieces around them, if you can squeeze them in. The urine will eventually kill the boxwoods. Then try to give your fur baby his own place to pee and train him. Hopefully that works for you. It’s worth it to share our gardens with our dogs, or rather share his their yards with us.

You really created a nice side yard. I just planted alliums last year and they are just starting to get ready to bloom. I just got the rest of Botanical Interests Dahlias I grew from seed planted. It will be interesting to see the colors as I’ve never grown them before. Maybe a couple of statues in front of boxwoods would keep the pup from using them 😊 I have so many flower seeds to plant that I saved. I’m on the search for a counter top for garden shed. I know what you mean about wrong color of flowers. Geraniums that said violet are more fuchsia. I have a large property and a lot of wildlife and it can make design difficult when it’s so large and you have to be mindful of what needs fencing. I have one boxwood that I would like to propagate if I can find some time. I told you I covered that and Alberta Spruces and they are in the best shape they ever have been so burlap wrap is key for winter protection. We are Very cool today and I’m a bit nervous about the next 2 nights as tomorrow I’ve seen 42* and 39* and this morning we had 43*. I planted well over 50 tomatoes and peppers each and the cool weather tends to make plants look pale even the dahlias. I sure hope it doesn’t freeze. This weather is difficult to grow spring crops as they tend to bolt because it was 94* yesterday and now really cold. Thank you for the slow view of your garden so a person can really absorb the beauty. It was welcomed as my sister passed away a couple days ago after an illness and it’s been a difficult time. I made a planter for her a week ago from flowers I had grown. She wasn’t home when I wanted to take it to her and then it got cool out and I waited. I waited too long I guess as she never mentioned and nor did anyone else let me know she was in hospital. So I will have it as a memorial to her ❤.

I had given up on alliums as the gophers gobble them up. I had so many and they were such a great early flower for me. But seeing how gorgeous they look here makes me determined to give them another try. I am starting to use gopher cages for things I now know they will eat. All my roses I am planting in my rose alley are in cages. Have you thought of using those small edging fences that are only about a foot or two high on that corner of your boxwoods? It could keep your little boxer far enough away he couldn’t us those boxwoods for his lavatory and they can be quite decorative. Or maybe a nice sized stone? I spotted those heucheras, gorgeous color, I was just wondering how I would use the ones someone gave me in the same color. I grew a bunch of the shorter verbena bonariensis from seed this year to pop around as I love the taller ones in my garden.

I am actually going to purchase some “antique” looking ones (little fences) just so that I can somewhat block him and make some distance from the shrubs. I have some but I’m not super happy about how they look, I have seen some semi circular ones just not sure exactly where to find them yet

Just lovely. A thought about the boxwoods... I have two dogs and you can't fight dog nature. So adapt. What about tropiary?

The garden is starting to wake up, looks very nice 👍🏻 Have you considered adding a privacy fence around the house? It surely would give your garden more definition and lots of privacy for all of you 😊 I have heard from many, including myself losing plants in their garden from this past winter ❄️ I guess you win some and lose some, doesn’t mean that we have to like it 😅

Thanks so much for the video. Can you make your bird bath look rusty with water? I've seen water make cement look rusty. I don't know how it works, but it's worth considering.

Hi Roxanna do you have old footage show how you created your walkway with the pebbles? If not can you maybe walk us through it ? I’m making the same kind of paths with the flagstone & all.

Hi there, I just removed the grass and weeds from the path, added a heavy duty weed fabric (look for a very thick one), placed the stones and threw the gravel in between. Super simple and nothing to it.

Thanks for the video. Your gladiator allium ( GA) are so beautiful. I planted my GA in the fall , the foliage sprouted this Spring, and they produced blooms at less than 5 inches tall. None of them grew to the height of yours, now they’ve died back. I’m hoping next year they grow and bloom correctly. Was this your first year growing the GAs?
@SoilandMargaritas
@SoilandMargaritas Год назад
These were their first year, I planted fall of 2022, that’s so weird about the tiny stems, maybe grab some from a different company, I wonder if your batch of bulbs wasn’t the best.

I got them from Dutch Grown Online, I got a lot of my tulips and my sensational alliums came from them as well. I’m getting ready to start thinking about my fall order because the nicer varieties do sell out quickly.

How did your steel raised beds fair over the winter? I’m in Ohio and would like to put some out with some hydrangea in them but do not want to have to worry about them over the winter and the freeze thaw cycles.

They did well, one of them had tulips and the other day was empty (no plants) I don’t have plans to put perennials or shrubs on them so I can’t help you with that.

I absolutely adore your garden! I'm curious about your redbud. Google (lol) says forest pansy redbud will get to 20 ft tall and 25 ft wide. I know you said you prune it to keep the shape - is your pruning also to keep it small? It doesn't look like you have space there for it to get as big as it could. I'd love something like this in my yard but not at its full size. Are you really able to prune it to keep it smaller? How many times a year do you prune? How old is your redbud? Sorry for all the questions lol!! Thank you!
@samivelable
@samivelable 11 месяцев назад
(I know I could just try to get a smaller tree and I likely will but I'm wanting decent height - just not the width - so I think I'm going to have to do some pruning.)
@SoilandMargaritas
@SoilandMargaritas 11 месяцев назад
I really think is doable but it’s something that you have to constantly keep an eye on, many people probably will be againts this but I don’t have the space to fully grow this and I want it in my garden so I’m gonna make it work for me.
