I'm glad you enjoyed the video Gardener Scott. It's one of those things, we all have to recognise the gaps in our knowledge but the beauty of building these online gardening communities is that there are lots of others out there who have knowledge where we have gaps, so we can share and create things together. It was a lot of fun to do and I met some great RU-vid friends through organising it ☺️

@@eliandkate subscribed to all the others now - other than neighbours giving me compliments , well more like 'whats that crazy englishman planting in his garden now?' which is fine i dont know any other gardeners locally as yet, so its nice to view videos from all you equally passionate people as myself and im learning loads. My gardens about 14 x 8 metres, so not so much room, but its crammed with planting, couple of ponds, garden house, small greenhouse and so far 4 raised beds - and a few small trees - one apple tree, and a massive 30 or so metre london plane in the bottom corner. Got this idea to use guttering to plant salad leaves and herbs, which I may place on the roof of the garden house, we shall see ;-))

@@eliandkate, Eli, I had to look up Tom Baker. I didn’t start watching Dr. Who regularly until Tenent came along. For some reason, British tv series didn’t catch on here in the U.S. until fairly recently. However, I do remember a U.K. series called The Prisoner with Patrick McGoohan. It was a little before your time, and was a mind bender, to be sure. Loved it … back then.

Oh I remember the Prisoner, I've seen reruns 😀 Yeah there was some sort of joint thing when David Tennant became the Dr and things started getting shown more in the US. Does preventing your strawberries from flowering during the first actually result in more harvest during years 2 and 3. I have also read that the growing from runners results in lower yields? Have you tried the hessian planters. I’ve used them this year and I’m impressed.
@eliandkate
@eliandkate 3 года назад
I've heard this advice about pinching flowers too but to be honest, I've never done it. I know the RHS recommends that for later producing varieties that you should pinch the spring flowers. But I've only ever grown summer fruits. As for runners, I grow from plants created from runners every year. While the runner is still attached to the mother plant, it will require the mother plants energy, so may mean the mother plant isn't capable of producing high yields at that point, but as soon as the little plantlet on the runner is able to be planted, you should cut the runners and free up the mother plant. I grow like this every year and have always had bumper crops. Not sure if it helps but I've got some videos of me doing things like that. My top tips (including runners) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AQi3FuR9VQo.html propagating from runners ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g0jNluOp1Ic.html Mulching your strawberries ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UZfqTS8UsmE.html

@@eliandkate probably another myth. It said you can take runners from the mother plant but the quality and vigour of the fruit will not be as good as the mother plant so I always get rid and just use the runner to replace any I’ve lost or fill gaps in my planter. It always give me chance to try new varieties and check for vine weevil grubs.
