Nice bloke, many years ago when he was playing for Middlesbrough, I was working in his house, he would bring me cups of tea and chat about football, he didn't have to do that..lots of respect for him.
Wow that’s an incredible story. He’s clear a stellar man-professional, full of integrity, gives his 100% relentlessly. That said, I don’t think he’s a great manager strategically. He’s good and should be proud of his results. But after this tournament, I’d like to see someone even better in the role-nothing personal, just think there could be someone who gets this insane crop of players playing even better.
As a 40 yr old villa fan, gareth has always been the epitome of cool calm and intellectual to me. Not surprised and very proud of what hes done for England. Win or lose tomorrow thank you gareth
As a Spaniard I support Spain but Southgate is a very nice man. He has achieved what nobody did before. At least not since 66. A final is a bit of a lottery. It is 50/50 I'd say.
I agree with you.Back to Back Euro finals and a World Cup semi final in 2018.Only Sir Alf in 66 has a better record because he won the World Cup.YET Southgate’s STILL getting criticised.Yes the football hasn’t been great, but did the Golden generation of Rooney,Beckham,Ashley Cole,Joe Cole,Owen,Ferdinand,Gerrard,Lampard,Scholes,Terry,James, etc get to finals?
Think he always get criticised part of being British is moaning 😂 we are never happy defo a 50/50 hope both teams attack we should be in for a great final
This man does not get enough love or praise. He has turned England from failures to competitors. Win or lose on Sunday the FA must keep him. Such a decent, honest, talented guy
I'd let him stay for the next World Cup, if we get there they will stick us in Canada as they won't want us running amock in America or Mexico. The 32 Euros are split between Italy and Turkey and they don't even border. But neither do Wales and Scotland and they have games in Euro 28
I really, unabashedly, unequivocally love this man and what he's given us. Came to our rescue at our most humiliating moment, given me my best moments as an England fan. Whatever happens tomorrow, thank you Gareth, I'll forever be grateful.
I absolutely agree. People can say past managers were better (they're wrong, but fine), but people forget to say that no manager took England at a worse point than he did. A team that was characterised by humiliation, fear, arrogance, thoughtlessness, and fragility, and you could actually see it in the football they played. To turn them into a team that comes back from behind 3 times in a tournament, scores 6/6 penalties on the road to a final, and have subs that come on and contribute immediately and according to a plan, it's such a remarkable achievement it's tempting to think nobody else in the world but him could have done it.
@@DavidLowe-xh3or youre talking bs... france was the only topnation that didnt top their group... even in 2018 you finished second and got the easier side of the bracket.. Thats the only Reason why you reach Finals and Semis. Cuz you only Face Average Teams... But hey keep going, so Southgate will stay in Charge and you will never win anything again
The reason why he’s taken so much grief is that some people just haven’t taken to the guy’s character which is sad. You can see that he’s a calm, considered thinker about the game. A lot of people want a heart-on-your-sleeve chest-thumper and would sooner lose a knock-out game 4-3 than scrap our way to the final in narrow, tight games. You cannot argue with his tournament record, especially when you consider the England record since 1966. Hats off to him ⚽️ 🏴 🏆
GARETH SOUTHGATE! The whole of England is with you!!! C’MON ENGLAND! 🏴 🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
@@joshd8777 As someone who has already been in Gelsenkirchen, Cologne and now Berlin on/off for a month I can assure you that 95%of us are behind Gareth Southgate and the boys 🏴
Southgate needs congratulating on how the WHOLE setup has become an amazing TEAM. stay on until the world cup Mr Southgate and continue to build both personally and with the TEAM
@@zacurrya9485 i'm not sure you're right about favourites, he's loyal but the way he left rashford and grealish out shows a fair bit of steel and he's very good indeed about introducing younger players where most previous managers haven't...it's not all about southgate, I think those supporting him are also to be praised
Let's be honest here, at the end of the day, its just a game. The players there are going to be working, just as they don't watch us work.. why should we watch them?
This Guy Deserves Respect from Every English Football Fan... His Record in Big Tournament Competitions speak for Itself 2 Finals 1semi finals 1 Quarter final That alone is a hell of an Achievement and I Wish Gareth Southgate & All his Staff and The players The Best of Luck Tomorrow night against Spain..Go and make yourselfs Heros...And im from Scotland and we beat them 2-0 in the qualifiers so England are well capable 🇬🇧
Gareth mate you have done us proud and some of us have taken the disrespect for you to levels that no one should ever experience. Whatever happeneds mate you are a quality human being and have represented us like a true gentleman. Thank you 💯🏴🦁🦁🦁 Come on Lads
That’s such an excellent point ! I’ve thought to myself many times over the last month we could all learn a lot from his calm demeanor and ability to handle the abuse with grace , big up to him 👊
This guy reminds me a lot of a previous manager I had at work. Really calm demeanour, a deep thinker, never had a bad word to say about anyone and always helpful when needed. As the saying goes, "You can't do enough for a good boss". I think these England players feel just like that about Gareth Southgate.... They'd run in front a bus for him. He deserves a lot of respect from the nation, and all he's got in this tournament is criticism. It's such a shame... we'll miss him when he's gone!
Thank you, Gareth. I doubted, but I was proven wrong. Win or lose tomorrow, I hope you stay because you have changed English football for the better and it is safe in your hands. Go well lads! 🏴🦁🦁🦁
Regardless of what happens tomorrow - as a life long England fan, if you told me 10 years ago that England would make back-to-back Euros finals and the last two WCs we'd make the semis and quarters I would've thought you lost the plot! Respect to Southgate for breaking down the barriers and making England a competitive team
@@Erbzino The bar is so low for you fossils. This is the bare minimum with the squad of players that we have and the level of opposition that's around these days. Have some pride instead of being happy about losing.
I really hope we win for his sake tommorow. I don't always agree with his tactics, however it can't be denied that he's vastly improved the England football environment. Also he's a good guy and it would be nice to see a nice ending to a up and down tournament.
So much respect for this man. He has been a remarkably succeasful England manager, and through it all he's stayed hunble and respectful. People say he has had the players but in reality he got England to a WC semi off the back of a loss to Iceland and average team. Now he's got them to back to back Euros finals. Incredible that some England fans still criticise him.
I’m thankful for Gareth Southgate and all he has done. He brought us all closer and the players are proud to play for the shirt again. Love it. Here’s to winning the Euros tomorrow.. cheers 🏴
It’s absurd that he is still being questioned. 2 x final, semi final, 1/4 final against France….prior to that, the last time we looked exciting was 1996. You can moan about tactics, but what he’s done for the England team can’t be overstated. So sick of all these teenagers in the comments who don’t even remember 2000-2018 and how absolutely abysmal we were. Who else would you have? What other English manager would you pick? The England manager should be English, who else is there? I almost wish he’s quit just to say up yours to all these ungrateful idiots that think management is like playing fifa.
Yeh but he’s played trash teams. Apart from Switzerland but I genuinely don’t remember them beating any top teams. If they beat Spain then yes hats off.
@@pejpm like I said if they beat Spain then yeh but otherwise no, they haven’t done anything impressive wen you look at the teams they’ve played against esp w the squad they have
The most humble manager ever england has produced due to his discipline character he has instill that these new crop English players he deserve more tittles would the luck on his side this time around
Watch Lineker with Rio & Shearer, Gareth has the best Ingenuity now installed with the England squad, Never happened with all our old legends, its the Key, Amazing England 🙂
Except Jose would bench Kane for performances like this, make changes sooner and make England play a better brand of football than Southgate lol. Southgate would really make Mourinho look like a genius for making common-sense decisions.
@@jamesduffy7549 Yes I am. I've watched many years of football to know the variety of football styles Mourinho has employed over the years especially when he has had great players at his disposal to play a very attacking brand of football as he did with the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid where his team was responsible for the most goals in a league season with 121. I almost forgot to mention his brand of football won titles unlike Gareth Southgate. Nice try though with that failed attempt of a gotcha.
@catalyst2155 if we cheat and hire a foreign manager in Jose, we will be out in the groups at the 2026 world cup. How many finals did we reach under fabio capello?
Gareth Southgate, history will be very kind to you. These days in the last three tournaments, now the final push. Hopefully, the infrastructure that is now in place at St George's , Burton will put England Football in good stead and bring us more success to come.
He makes decisions i dont understand but im just a football fan He's took us to back to back euro finals Best of luck to Gareth Southgate & England Come on England 🇬🇧🦁🦁🦁 (Still think he should drop kane for Watkins, as he'll most definitely be involved and create more chances to score goals)
Southgate needs more praise for the things he done for english football i think he should stay on as england coach whatever the outcome 2 finals 1 wc sf an a qf we could of won
I actually think he’s a great manager… might be the in the minority but I think he speaks well and has built a relationship with the players that has given them real confidence, this group is together as one and a lot of that is down to him
Whatever people think about the tactics and the performances of this England team they is no way anyone can take away the fact that Southgate has made England a team that can actually do well in tournament football and has managed to do more for England in the 30 years I have been watching than anyone else so people should put some respect on his name we was In a terrible place before he joined and has made it so the fans actually have faith in the team now to win stuff come on boys bring it home!!!!!!!!!
I really hope the team show up tomorrow and win for Southgate, he has had so much criticism from everyone at the start and a lot of people have been calling to let him go for a while.
Best record of any English manager we should applaud and appreciate him he’ll be sadly missed when he departs I just hope we do it tomorrow for Gareth he deserves it…COME ON ENGLAND
Absolute top guy. Results speak for themselves. People calling for his head just because England are not entertaining . Winning is the best form of entertainment . Never forget that
Southgate, you have ignored the critics and done what you think is right.. we are in another final! I am 50 years and under your management I've already seen one final and about to see another. You will never do right by some.. but the majority love ya! Whatever the outcome you have done this England team and our country proud. However we could do with a final win!! But no matter the outcome you will go down in history as one of if not the best England mangers this country has ever had... The best of luck to all of you! Its coming home!
Quite how we have got to the final is beyond me, I'm not a fan of southgate, never have been but by hook or by crook he's got us to this final, even if we win I think it's time for him to depart, pass the baton on to someone new, come on boys we can do this, finish the job tomorrow!
No other English manager could of done what Gareth has for this team, he is calm, looks at every aspect of tournament football, no one is better for the job. A great man who deserves massive credit.
I have eaten humbke pie time and again with regards to Gareth. He has changed my stance on him. After listening to him talk on the High Performance Podcast, he is very intelligent, and has been amazing for the whole set-up. The one pin of the 10 for me remaining that he has to knock down is the tactical acumen pin. And if we beat Spain tomorrow, then he has earned another layer of respect from me. Best of luck, Gareth and the boys!
International football is not like club football. The fact the whole squad respect the manager is proof that he's doing it right. Remember when we had the Man U/Liverpool/Chelsea/Arsenal cliques where they didnt bond as a team. Gareth has changed all that.
Its been disgraceful how he's been treated the past few weeks. Hed have had every right to hit back but has handled it with grace and now the fans are doing a 180 on him and talking like they always loved him. I dont blame him at all if he leaves after this tournament, if he wins he's our best ever manager, and i hope he knows that there were a lot of people who stuck with him in the bad times as well as good
Just appreciate for a second that the guy got two bites at the cherry and employed the same tactics both times. Prior to the second Spain goal, Tripper and Gallagher were coming on to force it to extra time!!
I question his ability to manage a team full of talent. However, his ability to manage a team and enact his game plan is unquestionable. Hes clearly a good bloke who has earned respect from the people he has coached, and I respect him as a person for the human he is.
Grown to like Southgate, maybe out of pity because he receives hate yet still delivers, shame there’s only ever 1 winner in football skews judgement on people who do well yet ultimately don’t win the prize at the end he’s done a terrific job
I can explain why Southgate is so important in 1 simple way: What's the job of the next England manager? Do you remember how we felt every single tournament before Southgate? The number 1 job of the next guy has always been, for decades, 'rip it up and start again'. For the first time in generations, the job of the next England manager will be 'build on the work of the last guy'. That's a really admirable achievement. It's something we should all aspire to, whatever walk of life we are on.
