We REALLY need more of Garlan in the book! This man is funny, fearless, badass in combat, chivalrous and honorable. He goes from openly scolding Joffrey for pouring wine on Tyrion, to being the FIRST to rush to his aid. He did what Jaime did in the show, since Jaime hadn't returned in the book. I. Love. This. Absolute. CHAD
I can understand why the show merged and cut the elder Tyrrels, I'm still a bit disappointed. In the books, I want more of both of them. For instance, Sir Garland dressing up as Renly to trick Stannis the Mannis's men was a stroke of genius. His elder brother isn't the only brains in the siblings.

Garlan Tyrell, I really ohpe he gets a chance to shine in the story, perhaps saving Aeron Damphair while the Ironborn battles the Redwyne fleet, though that'd require the silence to be taken and Euron sent running. Though admittedly, that's not the best way for him to get a place in a POV chapter in Winds and beyond, that's going to Oldtown and meeting up with Samwell Tarly. Garlan's kindness and support might be exactly what Sam needs to get his hopes up, and explain just what's going on at the Wall.
Garlan and his wife being kind people and mostly conventional types who do what is expected of them, I doubt we hear much more from them, unless he comes in as a secondary or tertiary warrior, who, like Jamie, provides an example of a knight having doubts, or like Ser Kevan a man who is killed BECAUSE he is a good guy in the way of someone's power grab. *This is not a story of happy people*
