He wasn’t to fully blame but he did have some questionable and some bone headed decisions but the team itself is flawed. However. Pulling off a fair value trade or trades is probably going to be hard. This is a change that will bring in immediate results. And Kris will be a great coach
This was just a desperate attempt to save their season. Another week of losing and the Oilers season is probably over. They need to go on a serious heater just maintain wildcard pace.
My twin and I, both lifelong leafs fans, are going to Sweden for the Minnesota game from Germany. Looking forward to hopefully getting to meet you there!
They think Ian Cole is afraid of Max Domi. Stop trying to make max domi a thing. Nobody is afraid of him if he's not jumping you. He literally cannot do a thing to Ian Cole.
Um guys, I hate to break Adam's bubble, if you will, but have you noticed the volume of penalties that the players have been taking in Edmonton, right? You realize some of them are on pace to set current 'highs' for penalties for themselves. Unfortunately Adam, when you start mentioning Edmonton mgmt, I get the impression that you expect mgmt to be able to lace up the skates and fix the problem, when its up to the players to find themselves a different solution then to take penalties, when they're frustrated, right. Knoblauch was also Debrincat's coach, and Strome's coach, and Raddysh's coach, etc etc etc.
Important to note that almost none of the blame goes on Keith Gretzky. He's an AGM by name, but his actual job is managing the Condors. He constantly has the rug pulled out from under him and has run a decently successful minor team despite that. The Condors started the season off 4-2 and are now 4-4 after being force to rehab Campbell (two games that were entirely winnable with good goaltending). As much as I hate Oilers nepotism and nostalgia Keith is just a guy who's grinded his way in management. Nearly zero fault lands on him. He worked as a coach for 6 years in the 90s, spent 15 years in scouting, and now 8 years as an AGM/GM for the Oilers.
The Swedish "Kom tillbaka" is "come back" not "comeback". We don't really have a word for this so we would probably use "comeback". It was an impressive comeback victory. Det var en imponerande comeback-seger.
Poor Woodcroft. Saw it coming, still sucked. Holland has done so much damage to this team and gets to trot out his THIRD head coach since he became GM! How is that possible?!
How? Because this wasn't his decision. This decision was made by Jeff Jackson. Holland is on the last year of his contract and will probably retire after the season. As of right now Holland is nothing more than a advisor wich is probably a good thing for Edmonton.
holland will be gone soon, hopefully. from a wings fan, guy cannot build a team with salary cap in mind. and now seeing that he was handed mcdavid and drai and still cannot build a product around that, dude needs to retire. hes so far past his time. he was good at luring good players to a team and player management, but when you put a cap on a team he looks clueless.
I’m pumped for Knoblauch. He’s a very intelligent man. Players have clearly thrived under him. I’m sure Jesse would agree with how well Cuylle has been. Jay is a good coach as well but Kris is Jeff’s guy and he isn’t going to bring in a loser. Kris is going to coach in Edmonton for a long time. I think he’s a great fit
Guys DO YOUR HOMEWORK! 1.15 million can be buried in the minors. Leafs can waive Reaves and if nobody claims him almost his entire contract can be buried in the minors PLUS he can be called back up if needed. Why would you buy him out?
RE: Brad Holland and Keith Gretzky, they're both nepo hires who are actually good at their jobs. Gretzky was the interim GM between Chia and Holland. Brad Holland might not be ready to take over as GM but Gretzky definitely is. Also the new defensive system did look good in the pre-season so I get why Woody didn't change it up initially. Maybe should have after a couple games. I don't know what the hell happened in the regular season TBH. Their goalies can't stop a puck, and their rush defense is awful, but their in zone defense is actually pretty good.
Going back to a comment I made before: they have made Woodcroft the scapegoat for all the bad things that have happened this season. They jettisoned him, hoping that he’ll take all the bad vibes out the door with him.
Steve seriously you need to rehears wrist shots and handling of the puck. This is humiliating at this point. Next year I only donate if you do real in game goal. Not an empty netter. 😂 Love you Steve ❤, all the best from Finland.
The Squib is back to being a Wizard. Go Oilers Go Go Leafs Go. Honestly, if I were to ask, in 2024, for Canadians, what would be the best Stanley Cup Final match up? It has to be Oilers vs. Leafs, with their current roster, for the cup.
I do not understand how you fire Woodcroft without cycling through a few goalie coaches and make some moves, or firing Holland. EDM is in a bad spot because their last two GMs have been a joke. Imagine being 25k against the cap with 2 great players, no dependable dmen, and 2 terrible goalies. They're like the Leafs but more extreme. At least the Leafs have 4 great players, 1 dependable dman and better goaltending putting them against the cap. Woodcroft could have tried just opening everything up and praying they score enough. However, he's getting scapegoated.
Back in my days of the late 80s - early 90s... "Eat The Rich" didn't mean what it means now... Let me put it this way. Other than "Rich" whats another name for Richard? The "Eat" part is rather self-explanatory...
It’s never the player, it’s the team. The Oilers won a cup after Gretzky but Gretzky never won a cup after leaving.(probably would have if it wasn’t for Patrick Roy but still didn’t )🤪
51:08 it really is only all the defensemen making a $1M more than they should. Nurse maybe a little more than that. Their forward contracts are pretty spot on to where they should be. I don’t blame Holland for taking a swing at Campbell, or C. Brown for that matter. Goaltending is fickle to predict and one has to remember they were replacing 64 year old Mike Smith and Mikko Koskinen. One would think the goaltending would improve over those two. And Brown was the defensive forward they need to play a tighter defensive game. 9 games isn’t enough to evaluate him. I personally would bite the bullet and play him when he gets back to see if he can recover from this understandable slump figuring he hasn’t been playing hockey for over a year.
My problem is Van is a team that can throw some hard, usually clean hits. But that's hockey. You're gonna take dirty hits from a weasel like Marchand and do nothing, then start gooning it up against Van, a pretty clean team, because you took a hard hit? What did the Leafs prove with that? You don't have to fight. Didn't have to fight Marchand either. Throw some of your own clean but huge hits.
On Ryan Reaves, when he was signed everybody assumed he would only play the odd game. Then Keefe played him for 14 (?) straight games and now everybody wants him traded. This is not Reaves' fault. He should be in the press box unless they need an enforcer or someone needs a night off.
The leafs need to take a month to lead in pims and just show they are going to fight tooth and nail every minute of the night feck it let's go 2-12 and lead PIMS by 300 min, we can get the 2nd wild card still but more importantly we will get our players room
Yes Connor hates losing even one game and the other players see his dissatisfied looks and probably not so good comments in the locker room after a lose. I am sure it would get to a players nerve after a bit of that winy crap going on .
Why aren't you taking the non-stop flight between YYZ-ARN (Stockholm - Arlanda) on SAS (scandinavian airlines) instead of connecting through Heathrow?? Even Icelandair via KEF (Keflavik Iceland) is a way better connection. Both SAS and Icelandair are better experiences than north american airlines too! Nästa tid kanske!
The Oilers right now line up perfectly with Steve’s analogy about the coins in your hand aren’t enough to buy the ice cream. You can’t ice different players because of the contracts, so you’re stuck with what you have in your hand. You’re just short. No ice cream.
It was mentioned at the start of the season that Minnesota wanted to re-sign Reaves until Toronto "backed up the Brinks truck." I can't remember whether it was the color commentators during a game or Friedman or whomever but that was what was brought up as a direct quote from the Wild GM.
I don't think reaves should be bought out? If it's a regular buyout it would be 2/3 of 2.6 payed out over 4 years. Since his salary is the same as his cap hit it makes the math simple. I think with 35 + contract it's the whole contract that is payed out in a buyout. I think it'd be 650 k cap hit for 4 years if he was bought out. There is a weird thing about 35 plus contracts, though, where if the yearly cap hit and yearly salary are the same, then he can be sent down to the minors and most of it would be eaten. I think 1.15 of a players cap is eaten if they are sent down. If Reaves were to go I would much rather he get sent down instead of bought out. He would only count toward 200k towards the cap if he's sent down.
That’s not how Reaves is supposed to be seen by his teammates. How it’s supposed to work is whenever something happens you all confetti gloves. What Reaves does is prevents things from escalating further. But Keefe needs to put him out directly after something happens not leave him on the bench so he can do that.
So John LeClair was on my team last year for the Lindros Classic and he told us that after the Potvin fight game and for the rest of the season, they would walk by Hextall's locker, and elsewhere in the dressing room, and meow at him like a cat. Safe to say Ronnie was not a fan of that.
dont ostracize bertuzzi, as a wings fan, he has his flaws but he can be a game breaker. dont do him dirty boys, he had a bad look against boston but hes a true player i promise.
Boilers coach, changed defensive system and team is dumpster fire but that whole front office should go and Katz should sell the team to someone who's not trying to build some BS old boys club. McFraud is also a huge crybaby and should just relinquish the C because he obviously cant captain a team with that cardboard personality.
My favorite podcast moment ever is now Adam trying to say Alianza Lima and Universitario de Deportes, saying it different every time and not getting close once lmao but yeah my family is Peruvian and I can say that level of pettiness is extremely on brand for sports down there
the leafs trying to act tuff getting instigators on clean hits was sad, they should have stood up for themselves against Boston, way to late for a response on Saturday, what a joke
