A Garmin video focused on strength training is rare, thanks for the video, very detailed. I'll probably go with Forerunner 45, which is cheaper with all the features I need.
Awesome review! Exactly what I was looking for! a lot of the other reviews are based mainly on the sports features. Yours focussed more on general fitness and the smart watch functions. Perfect!
After watching this video I bought FR 245 and I am extremely happy with "smart" Features and Music Control Function. The sports Features are also OK (they were enough for FR 235). And now I can say - they're even better than I expected ... I wanted more "smart" Watch als Fitness Tracker. Thanks for this Video.
One the best reviews I've seen for this watch. The smart notifications look great but is there anyone else like me who has everything turned on my phone connected all notification settings on and can't receive notifications, don't have a clue why
You made a review in nice user-perspective, I can tell you really "touch" the watch. Some other reviews are more like a specification, too much technical numbers, but no user experience.
Great overview! Got my 245 a few weeks ago and still learning. Your video helped me better understand the features. As for the 245, it hits a sweet spot between price and features for how I use it.
@@Della2010 , it's as expected. It can go several days between charges if no activities are recorded. Always make sure it's fully charged before long bike rides, and it will need a charge after.
@@Della2010 , no, not at all. It is as described in the specs. Just user tip, make sure it has a full charge before you start an activity that requires GPS.
I never even knew I needed Garmin pay. Now I like the idea but it's just a convenience on very limited occasions. My biggest gripe with this watch is the face size. Unfortunately, all these sports watch companies go for style over substance. For those of us that use reading glasses which we will not run with, we need bigger watch faces so that the smaller font is not so small whilst still having four data fields. They should have a line called Garmin Read eg. Garmin 245 Read which will have bigger watch faces, then let the buyer decide if the bigger size isn't to their liking. I'd go for the bigger face every time. I don't care about style this is about running/exercising not picking up girls.
great review, however music feature is not garbage at all, man. I use it all the time. amazing sync with shazam, spotify and also playlist of garmin itself.
Excellent review based on your personal experience with the watch. Balanced and very informative. Not completely Garmin-centric with nice comparison to other models and brands. Fills a gap in review market with good discussion of features poorly covered in other reviews. Agree on price gouging. I personally think the watch looks a little small and chunky on the wrist compared to say previous model, 235. I've wondered about the data syncing to phone & ConnectIQ with the standard Bluetooth v WiFi offered on some models, but seems the BT works nicely?
Wow brilliant reviews, i am totally not technical and i still understood your video unlike many others i have watched and been mistified..Thank you take care Natalie 😁
Just sold my fenix 6 pro sapphire way too heavy for fitness, horrible to sleep in, and when weather is cold its like wearing a ice cube on your wrist!! I just bought the 245 its a great watch so light and all you need to run and ride!
Thanks for the review. Even though its half-hour review (which is long), it is presented very coherently and everything is explained properly. Thanks again.
Those were my options along with Instinct. After research and some thought, I decided to go with the Instinct, but when I was still considering 245 and V4, I dropped the V4 out of the race because the 245 is basically the non touch screen version of the V4.
Very good review. It is expensive, and, I’m also concerned about taking care of my things. I did add an aftermarket screen protector, hopefully that keeps the screen in good shape for a while.
i freaking loved my pebble (1st gen), i went to a moto 360 (2nd gen) and it wasnt the same. i missed the pebbles ease of use a lot. this watch might well be the next watch i love! great review, thanks
happened upon your review because I am upgrading my 230 to a 245. To be fair, you are reviewing a device that is an out an out running watch. So while the cost may seem high for you, you are not really using any of the features that the watch is specifically designed for. As for durability, well I have had the 230 for 6 years and wear it for everything. I do not take it off. It has been through a lot. Ironically, I am replacing it because I know have a hairline crack across the face, but I think that is just bad luck. I got a chip on the bezel a few years ago and I must have banged the exact spot. The watch is stull usable and I still shower with it, but I cant stand seeing the crack. After 6 years, it works out to about 1c per activity I have logged with it
Great review, have been trying to decide if I should spend the extra for the Fenix but I agree that this watch has a better design and look for me and I want light.
Yep I was torn between the 245 and the fenix I ended up buying the 245 after getting to try them both on in the store, the forerunner 245 just felt right on my wrist, plus it has almost all of the features I wanted from the fenix.
Amazing job with this video! Can you please help me a bit more? Is it possible to create your own strength training workout beforehand and then follow it in the gym from the watch? Also, are the Training status/effect/load features working for strength training or they're just made for runners? Thank you.
Garmin only uses proprietary software, that is why it took them so long to do heart rate on the wrist like Tom Tom who use Phillips HR monitor technology. It took them another 18 months to develop their own.
I have watched number of videos before I decided to buy 245, I have omitted yours as the title seems misleading. I have watched it after I made my decision and I am just sure it was the right one ;) This is by far the best video review of that watch! Keep up your work. Thanks!
@@JSyntax Something to indicate it is comprehensive review and detailed features walkthrough. I have just seen "more smartwatch than a fitness tracker" and somehow it did not appeal to me, I have scrolled past your video few times lol Might be just me ;) Anyway I am glad I watched it. Really detailed walkthrough! 👍
Awesome review! Mine has just arrived, I'm so happy! One thing though, what's the name of the watch face you say is your favorite? I just can't find it online...
What a review mate! Wow! And yeah, it’s soooo expensive. For same price you can get the Galaxy watch Active 2 or the Apple Watch 4. Tbh it’s not more than $199 worth. Don’t get me wrong, the watch looks so good but, it’s a whole lot of money for 42mm and all made plastic. Here in France I can get the 245 music for $350. 🤦🏼♂️
Interesting ... I wouldn't need things like Garmin pay, Voice Reply, Music or LTE but it would be nice to be able to officially read power meters. Than it would be the perfect watch to me.
Hey, thank you for the nice review. 😊 I also miss my Pebble Time watch. ⌚️ Can you give me some budget alternatives to the Pebble watch with a MIP display?
Thank you so much for focusing on the Pulse Ox and sleep apnea. Now a year and some software updates later, do you have new experience on the Pulse Ox? You mention other Garmin devices that record Ox more than 4 hours - can you reveal wich?
Just bought a 245 yesterday to replace my old Fitbit Charge 2. Thanks for your super clear review! I have almost the same requirements like you in term of fitness tracker. By the way do you remember the name of the watch face you used in this video?
I also still use the charge 2 😄 Looking to buy a new sport/smart watch now that i'm running allot more. I've heard Fitbit's sleep tracking is the best out there. Does the garmin do a good job at it?
I'm coming from Pebble as well and the reason I'm looking at Garmin is because another Pebble user said that Garmin notifications don't disappear from the screen before I can read them. That's surprisingly rare among smart watches. Voice reply never worked great for me on Pebble. I gave up after a few tries but my son would try and try and try until it works when it would be easier to reply by phone. It reminded me of trying to feed a piece of thread into a vacuum cleaner when it won't pick it up instead of throwing it in the trash. :P
Thanks for the review. Really liked it. Was ready to exchange VA3 info 245 until read your comment to wait for VA4. Can you specify what watch faces you're on 10:37 and 28:24. Is it something preloaded to the watch or one can download one from garmin connect? Thanks.
Great review. Its a great watch, but garmin pay would definately make it perfect. Anyhow, just ordered one after really long market search...just because it is great with sports, and i dont need Oled and calls on my watch anyway.
I like your reviews. Could you do a summary list of all the devices you have tested that measure SpO2 and then order them into classes and choose the best for each? I know some are to only be worn at night so that would be in a different class than those that can also be on the wrist and be used as step trackers. I was going to get a simple finger SpO2 and then the price doubled. I also wonder how do the ones on the wrist actually work as the ones on the finger are sending two signals through the finger to compare oxygenated and deoxygenated blood and then come to a total I thought, so how does the the red light two signals measuring process work on a wrist? People appreciate your ability to assess the SpO2 feature, among other aspects.
Indeed, you can! However, I was looking for a emergency contact only like phone calls and certain sms, honestly, it's not a big deal anymore. Probably should have left it out of my review
Great review man! Helped me a lot. I have a question - not sure if you would be able to help. With the notifications, with your (and with my watch initially), the notification would come through and I'd have the option of dismissing it with the down button or clicking the start button to go into the notification, but now it goes directly into the notification as if I have already clicked on start. Do you have any idea why this is and how I can turn it off?
Het JSyntax. Great video. Would you recommend this to someone (like me) who is starting to get into running again. I'm starting with 5Ks and working my way to half marathons (and more).
Man such an excellent review of this watch. I literally ordered one while I was watching it. Could you please help me with garmin watch face that you actually have in this video? You are right there are thousands - do you have any idea what app that came from and what the the name is of you're watch face?
Great video but what I really want to know is can I set my own targets e.g. Keep walking in HR Zone 2 or 3 and alarm if my HR gets too high or too low. If anyone actually has that watch, I'd really like to know this before I fork out for one.
The pictures I've seen of the 245 map display don't seem to show your current speed or pace. Is it possible to add that data field to the map? Mine just arrived in the mail, BTW.
Hi, great review, i picked up alot on some of the features so thanks. Just one thing, i love the watch display face you have in the video, but i can't seem to find it in the app store? What is it called?
