... and if you "Resume" an activity from three days ago (or just turn on the device without worrying about "activities") you will still be using the barometric pressure of that time. The receiver will faithfully record CHANGES to elevation but they will all be referenced to that old barometric pressure. The ONLY way to get the receiver to do an altimeter calibration (other than doing one manually) is to START an activity. All previous receivers auto-calibrated when you turned them on (and in fact the original manual for this one still said it did too) but now you HAVE to start an activity. I discovered this after starting a hike at -200 metres of elevation :-) I actually END the previous activity when I start a hike - the receiver is set to automatically start a new one when I do that.
Excellent presentation. Thanks so much also for the Setup -> Find -> Round Trip suggestions option. I could not find that at all in the manual but you knew about it and demonstrated it well!
Hi Victor thanks for your message, yes you can use Wikiloc with the GPSMap66s to download routes to it, a quick link to follow from the Garmin manual advising about Wikiloc, I hope this helps, Regards GPS Training - support.garmin.com/en-GB/?faq=EyqTOy4x2a6I8l4tAI2kv8
Thank you for your videos! I have have been trying to decide between the GPSMap66st and the Oregon 700. Which one would you recommend? I would be using the device for hiking, cycling, camping, skiing, and geocaching. Thank!
Hi thanks for your enquiry, if you want an all season units that can be used with your gloves on especially when Skiing we would recommend the GPSMap66st unit where as with the Oregon unit you would need to take your gloves off to use it - we stock the GPSMap66st with various map options as follows - www.gpstraining.co.uk/store/handheld-gps-units/garmin-outdoor-gps-units---with-topoactive/garmin-gpsmap66st-with-topoactive-maps-covering-all-of-europe www.gpstraining.co.uk/store/handheld-gps-units/garmin-gps-units---with-full-gb-150k-maps/garmin-gpsmap66st-with-topo-great-britain-pro-150k www.gpstraining.co.uk/store/handheld-gps-units/garmin-gps-units---with-full-gb-125k-maps/garmin-gpsmap66st-with-whole-gb-os-topo-great-britain-pro-includes-os-full-gb-1250k-150k-125k-on-microsd-card I hope this helps, Kind regards GPS Training
I am a subscriber of OSmaps on the iphone which I have used for quite a while and really good. On a number of occasions my remote hike has been impossible to complete due to the ground level disappearance of the track seen on map. Is is possible to add the OSmaps system to the 66 series and if so how is it done? Great tutorials thanks.
Sadly you can't put your OS subscription maps on any Garmin GPS Unit, you need to purchase an OS map card that will work in a Garmin GPS Unit - gpstraining.co.uk/collections/maps
Unclear to me, as the reviewer kept using the description "we", if this review is done by Garmin itself? If yes, then that may be why it does not really get into the details and issues many are finding. Some units freeze, requiring battery removal when certain screens are accessed or exited. Also some are reporting their units power off when exiting the track recording menu. And there have been complaints about Garmin's use of the soft material around the power button which eventually breaks open and does away with the water resistance. Any comments of experience with these issues?
Hi William apologies it was myself who created the video, at the time we had only been using the unit for a short time and the video was not to be a review of using it but to talk about some of the new features, since then we have been using the units ourselves in our own business for walking, cycling etc and have only experienced one screen freeze when I was downloading a large area of satellite imagery otherwise all has been working fine for us when out on walks using the track recording functions etc, the material around the power button looks similar to other units and since October we have sold 50+ units and have received no feedback from any of our customers regarding issues with the power buttons, I hope this helps, Kind regards GPS Training
William, thanks for your heads-up re: the "material around the power button which eventually breaks open." I was about to buy one of these as an upgrade from my 30x. I had a similar material failure around the joystick button of my previous etrex 20, and as a result I think the joystick contact points picked some dirt and slowly became less and less responsive. I'm done with Garmins.
I cant get the street names up on the map screen apart from at the top of the screen except main road names ..is this jst the way it is or is there a setting i dnt kniw about..ive tried the zoom options in settings.64st.....thanks its cracking me up.
I hope you do more video on this. I just received mine but so many feature. Can you help with turn by turn. It is now working and I did purchase NT Nag.
