Great Vid walk John as always. I have the 66st so it was great to watch. Nice to hear a mention of the Walking Englishman, Mike used to be my big boss at BB, great guy and man of leisure these days. thanks.
Steve, Mike is a great chap, you where lucky to work with him. I interviewed him on our Podcast - gpsonlinecourse.co.uk/gps-training-podcast-episode-7/
Thanks for your question. If you watch the start of the video it takes you through loading a track on the unit, which will then gives you the navigational experience you are looking for. I hope this helps.
Thanks for this video, recently bought one off these and found it really fiddly to work, so this video is a god send and exactly what I’ve needed. God bless.
Thanks for your feedback. I think the hardest thing with a Garmin is trying to get your head around the 'navigational experience'. Once you know what that looks like it is half the battle, then it's just a case of learning and practice, practice and yet more practice.
Thanks for the video! Got one question regarding the navigation. Is it possible to set a sound notification for turns (is it called turn-by-turn navigation?) ? I'd like to use it for hiking and cycling. A single 'beep' as waring about upcoming turn would be great for cycling.
Hi Marcin, on our online training course we have some videos in the Basecamp section showing you how you can create Proximity Alarms in Basecamp and send them to your unit, our Online courses can be purchased from this link - gpstraining.co.uk/products/online-resource-digital-format kind regards GPST
Nice video, got my 66s couple months ago, great piece of kit. Only thing I don’t like is glass screen, already got 4 small chips on it and it hardly touched the rock where it got them from, wish it was a lot more tougher like my fenix 5 garmin watch. Frank.
Thanks so much for these videos. They are an invaluable resource. Is the Garmin GPSmap 66st basically a 66s with topo maps? So i could essentially get a 66s buy the topo maps and turn a 66s into a 66st? Also is the multiband technology really necessary in UK and europe? Thanks again.
Many thanks for your question. Yes the 66sr is similar to the 66st, but with the addition of the built in battery (25 hours of battery life) and as you say the multi band. This will give an accuracy of 1.5m, compared to the 2m accuracy of the 66st. The main thing you need to check is that you are using the GPS and Galileo. You can check this within the setup of the unit. By using the Galileo it will give you the best accuracy. I hope this helps.
Hola, tengo el mismo GPS. El problema que tengo es, que los caminos se desvían mucho entre 20 30 metros. Sabes cuál sería el problema? Como solucionar Gracias. Muy buenos sus videos
I would try a number of things - 1. Master reset the unit - gpstraining.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/6000135806-how-do-i-perform-a-master-or-factory-reset-on-my-gpsmap-62-64-or-66s-series-device- 2. If this does not sort it I would send it back under warranty (2 years with Garmin) I hope this helps.
Great video. I recently received my 66s and really enjoying it. I thought that the arrow would only point to the next point if you were following a route and not a track. What is it following on a track? Thanks
Many thanks for a great video. It covered a lot of the things I was struggling with. I purchased the 66i which I have found brilliant when I get it right. If I import a route as a route I can copy it to courses so I don’t have to worry how many points are on it. Thanks again.
Great video. For a future video. I’m not that great on planning. Can you talk us through what to do when we are lost. Especially lost in an area where it is a lot of steep hillsides, and unfortunately maybe foggy. I now about the trackback but are there any other way. I live in Norway and I bring the gps unit for safety purposes. I need to learn how. I Norway there are a lot of high mountains and I love hiking.
Will do, I will look at the tracback function on one of the videos. If you are really wanting to get to grips with your unit we have an online training course with 55 on how to use the Garmin GPSMAP 66s - gpsonlinecourse.co.uk/
Hi there. I'm running a 100 mile ultra marathon in snowdonia later in the year and I'm after a handheld GPS device. Would you recommend this one for such an event? Cheers 👍🏻😊
Sounds an exciting challenge ahead. I would encourage you to look at either the Garmin GPSMAP 65s or the Garmin GPSMAP 66s. Walk and talk with the Garmin GPSMAP 65s - gpstraining.co.uk/blogs/news/walk-and-talk-an-in-depth-look-at-the-practical-use-of-an-outdoor-gps-unit#GPSMAP65s
@@SSD92_x Yea thats the one. I've already got the GPS map downloaded to my watch but I'd like a proper handheld device. I feel it will give me a lot more confidence in not getting lost 😂
Very helpful video, thank you for posting it! I just purchased a 66sr. Question if I may (can't find an answer anywhere yet). If I am at a local national park (I live in southern Illinois, USA) and decide on the spur of the moment to talk a long hike, how do I track my walk so that I can also get back at the end of the day, if that makes sense. Thank you if you have time to answer!
This video takes you through starting to record 'your track'. Then at any you want to 'track back' you go to Find > Recorded activity > Current activity and track back. If you are wanting to properly get to grips with your unit we do have over 50 training videos on how to use your unit in our online resource - gpsonlinecourse.co.uk/
I understand your problem, lets look at the pros and negatives on each - GPSMAP 66s - Better operating system, larger clearer screen. GPSMAP 65s - Better battery life, more accurate This may help, my 'walk and talk' with the Garmin GPSMAP 65s - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-575jvwC_O6w.html
I try and be inclusive. I personally use 1:25k maps on my own unit but equally happy using 1:50k. If you plan routes on BaseCamp before you go do we really need the extra detail we get on the 1:25k maps? It's a debate we need to have on our Podcast I think!
It is a lot of GPS for the money, please make sure you buy it with an OS map card if you are in the UK, as you get a 1:50k map card for half price (saving you £100.00) if you buy it at the same time as the unit - gpstraining.co.uk/collections/handheld-gps-units/products/garmin-gpsmap-66s?variant=37901144293547
