How to adjust the data screens and data fields on the Garmin Instinct. Hope the video helped, for more videos like this I hope you will visit my other channel:@WatchJumble #garmin
Excellent. It's great to watch someone explain the very basics; too often assumptions are made about a level of knowledge the viewer has not yet acquired.
You seem like the guru for the Instinct. When I'm in navigation mode and on a saved, downloaded course (Section C of the PCT that I uploaded from AllTrails) and just on the Map view screen, what is going on in the circular data screen in the top right? I'm just messing with it in my living room right now (I got if for Christmas) but there are 3 little vertical dots, some filled, some not, and they change in that condition and order. What do they represent? I live about 1/2 mile from the PCT and intend to hike about 130+ miles across my area using the Instinct as a backup GPS. But I can't find anything explaining what these vertical dots mean.
There is not. That is one of the disappointments with Garmin is that your step count is always per day but there is no way to see your step count per activity :(.
Yes you could have one screen with a single data field (that is just the time). . . then have other screens that have multiple data fields with other values you care about. . . . and you just view it when you wish. You can also use the auto scroll feature which will automatically flip between the different screens vs. you doing it manually. Hope that makes sense and helps.
I was using hike to track walks because of the map data screen. Now I added map to the walk activity and all is good. I still don’t know what the difference between a hike and walk would be though.
Great video, very helpful. But I didn't see how you could delete a data field for an activity. If my layout for that activity says I have 4 data fields, and I only want 3 data fields, is there a way to delete the 4th data field that I don't want? I know I can change a data field by selecting the category, like HR Fields, Timer fields, etc., but I want to delete the field and a Remove option doesn't appear. Thanks for your help.
Hi David, that is a good question. Unfortunately Garmin doesn't really give you the flexibility to remove any data field or leave the field blank so it does not show. There are a couple exception watch faces, that do offer a "blank" field as an option on one or two of the data elements, but again it is not global for all data fields. I wish it had this capability as you mentioned, would be nice to just hide fields if you don't really need them. Thanks for watching, have a good day!
Great video, can you remove default data screens? For example during pool swim activity I only want time & distance, I don't won't other data screens & alerts appearingup whilst I'm swimming?? cheers
Customizing the Data Screens You can show, hide, and change the layout and content of data screens for each activity. Hold MENU. Select Settings > Activities & Apps. Select the activity to customize. Select the activity settings. Select Data Screens. Select a data screen to customize. Select an option: Select Layout to adjust the number of data fields on the data screen. Select a field to change the data that appears in the field. Select Reorder to change the location of the data screen in the loop. Select Remove to remove the data screen from the loop. If necessary, select Add to add a data screen to the loop. You can add a custom data screen, or select one of the predefined data screens.
