@@JUMBLE2015 if there is a new gen of Garmin instinct serires due to release in the first quarter 2022, it is better for me to wait for it. I believe the next gen will have more accurate sensors and Vo2 Max function. Also, I hope the screen resolution should be improved.

@@tvt8716 I don't know much about the new version or when it will be released, but if you Google "Garmin Instinct 2nd Generation" there were some leaks about a week ago that it was coming out. Not sure how credible those reports are but usually when there are that many of them it is pretty legit. As far as waiting I think it depends on your budget and timeline. For me the Garmin Instinct Solar does everything I need and then some, so I am not worried about the second generation and would rather pay less and get my Instinct now. However if you are someone who is not in a hurry and is willing to spend more to get the latest version which might have more features then I could see that as well.

@@JUMBLE2015 yeah, sounds good. I am actually using a Samsung Galaxy watch (been using it for a year). So, at least I have something to track my activities. Well, the article from google says there are some upgrades to new gen of Garmin instinct. Like e-ink display (better readability), Elevate V4 heart rate sensor (greater accuracy). I believe the new Garmin instict pricing will be around $500-$600 which is within my expected budget. If it is like 800-1000 dollars, then ok, I will get the current version. I am not that rich to spend 1000 dollars on a wristwear.

Thanks for the info. I have a question that I hope you can answer. I'm in the Appalachian mountains in VA, I do a lot of hiking and really even just driving to work and back changes my altitude by 200+/- feet. What is acceptable would you say for variance when I calibrate at home, let's say 2000ft then I go to work and it is reading 1800ft. Then at the end of the day I go back home and it reads 2040ft instead of the 2000ft It read when I calibrated it...

@wildaboutwatches
@wildaboutwatches 2 года назад
Hello when you calibrate it asks if to put sea level pressure in. That is 1013.25mb. Do you put that figure in or the zero reference altitude reading? I notice my g shocks pressure seems unconnected to altitude reading. My kestrel 5500 gives two readings one is baro based on elevation and the other is pressure which is not calibrated no options for that but appears to give the pressure for zero m elevation. Hence wondering what goes to sea level reading on calibration settings.

I've had my instinct solar 2 for about a year and now it SUCKS at holding a charge. It says the battery is at 100% and then dies the next day. I used to go about 23 days before having to recharge it. Now its about every other day. Not very impressed.

These videos are so helpful! Does there happen to be any way to get the barometer data to an activity feed in the connect app? Unless that info is already there and I'm completely missing it? ...thanks again for the videos!
@JUMBLE2015
@JUMBLE2015 3 года назад
When you do an activity it should automatically use your Barometer and Altimeter. When you go back and look at the activity you will see that information in Garmin Connect for the given activity. The only issue is you never really see the barometric pressure for the given activity. It just used that to show the elevation gain, temperature and wind (which I am not sure where Garmin pulls that from). There is nothing you really can do, but there is a setting that you can control if it is using your Barometer, Altimeter or both. That video is here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pkmznS37diM.html - hope that helps.

I am getting ready to do a high (4500+ m) hike. Would you recommend changing my barometer to altitude only based or leave it on auto. Also, should I re-calibrate when I start my hike (at about 3000 m) or leave it alone.
@JUMBLE2015
@JUMBLE2015 2 года назад
That is a tough one. Based on what the manual says, it would seem like changing it to using altimeter would be the way to go. They claim if you are doing an activity that is going to require elevation changes then switch it to altimeter (www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/instinct/EN-US/GUID-CDC9DDEE-C576-4E1D-B007-BC737686793A.html). Personally I am the type that unless I see any noticeably invalid readings I just leave it on auto and I have never had any issues. Note sure if that really helps or not, but I hope you have a good hike.

Hello. When you travel does the baro graph reset? Like in Casio watches? You know what i mean. When you go somewhere for a couple of hours the graph in Casio is reseting. Wonder how it looks like in Garmin? Thank you.
@JUMBLE2015
@JUMBLE2015 2 года назад
I am not sure what you mean here. I have a Suunto and a couple Casio Pro Treks with barometer. When I travel the graph never resets. . . . it always just shows a view of the past couple of hours (regardless of the location). The Garmin is the same, it will always show a graph of the given time frame (the last 6, 12, 24 or 48 hours depending on what you have it set for). I hope that makes sense / helps.

@@JUMBLE2015 hello. Ok. When you travel the barograph in Casio will show you one spot only becouse you changed the altitude. It is common issue in Casio. When you change location with Casio there is no graph trend. I wonder how it looks like in Garmin or in Suunto. I am sure that you know what i mean. The barograph always in Casio after you change your destination to another always show only one spot on display and then starting the measurment.

Thanks for the kind words about my channel, glad to hear it is helping someone. Regarding the storm alert, it will depend on how you have your notifications set. If you have vibrate on only it should just vibrate. If you have tone on, then you will hear a beep. If you have both on it will vibrate and beep. Does the arrow pointing to right under the altimeter reading mean anything?
@JUMBLE2015

That shows your barometric trend. . . . if it goes up it means the weather should be getting better, going down means weather is declining. . . . staying level would mean stable weather. I hope that helps, thanks for watching.

@stevek8829
@stevek8829 Год назад
@@KevAlberta you have it all wrong, sorry. The GPS unit you name is a: GPS with a pressure senaor, like my Garmin watch! DUH! Altimeters are merely pressure sensors. If you set a knowm reading in pressure, you can get an altitude reading. If you know your elevation, you can adjust until the correct elevation (altitude) is on the main dial and your barometer setting will be correct. One reading is dependent on the other. That's why ATC is always giving pilots the barometer reading, so they can adjust it and their altimeter will be temporarily correct. The gauge only senses pressure.

A Pascal is nothing more than an attempt to give some Frenchman credit for something for nothing. It's only a renamed millibar, which itself is only a fancy way to say one thousandth of an average atmosphere.
@wintrymix
@wintrymix Год назад
Thanks for this. I don't know much about atmospheric pressure but I do enjoy learning new things when they come up. So while I've been playing around with my watch, I became interested in watching the barometer and seeing how the graph relates to the current weather. It's pretty interesting. I didn't understand why hP and millibars had the same units. I didn't know what to set it to so I left it on mb which is the default on my watch. So why did it get renamed, and why are both used if the scale is identical? Also if it's 1/1000 of average atmosphere, that means 1000 mb is 1 "atmosphere," meaning standard average? Is it the global average?
