This time showing some geocaching specific functions of the Garmin Montana 700 series GPS units. Even with the menus in German, I think you can manage to navigate around yourself, as the symbols are the same in all languages.
Great overview! Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Very helpful. Just thing...I wish I had spent the extra dough and gotten the 750i, but oh well, hindsight is 20/20 right?
Thank you for this! Hoping to upgrade in the future from my trusty oregon 300 to either the gpsmap66 or this. Just not sure due to costs! Really want to go live though
Ab Werk ist eine Freizeitkarte dabei. Das ist lediglich OSM. Sind die Navigations und Orientierungsmöglichkeiten bei der TOPO 9V Pro zahlreicher? Lohnt sich die Investition der Pro Karte?
Thanks for the video. One quick question. Do you know if you're able to 'mark as found / log offline' without it logging to Geocaching.com but while still logged into the Geocaching App (i.e. I would like live cache data / updates - and to be able to mark them as found and even take notes - but I don't want to log them from the GPSr.)
Hi Chad! I am not entirely sure if I understand your question right, but lets have a try. The 700 series is communicating via bluetooth to the Garmin Connect app in my iphone. I can download the geocaches in my current when I am in the geocaching profile of the 700, including all additional info like hints and logs. I am most times then using the GPS to log a found or not found GPS. This information is then transferred back via BT to the connect app and from there to Geocaching.com. I am not sure how fast this happens, but caches I logged in the GPS three hours ago are now marked as found on the geocaching website and the geocaching app. My guess is, that if the 700 does not have an internet connection at the moment of logging, it will be stored in the GPS and then transferred to the geocaching webpage as soon as the internet connection is back. Of course I could also log a found / not found cache also using the geocaching app, but then the info in the GPS will not be updated before I actively download the caches again.
@@kai-uweoch1159 Thanks, that part was understood. However, I want to be have to 'save the found' offline, i.e. mark it on my GPS as found like has traditionally been done and it could dump a list of caches that are marked as found as well as any notes I took on the cache. This way I will have a list of the ones I've found and the Icon Change on the GPSr screen, but not have the device log it to Geocaching.com (if/when it has a data connection) But I also want to enjoy the benefits have having a live data connection in case new caches have come out, or I'm in an area that I don't have a GPX for. I personally don't want to log in the field, but back home on my laptop.
@@ChadCourtneyTAZ427 I know this question was a long time ago and you have probably found the answer by now, but yes you can do this, you need to go into geocaching setup/geocaching live/Turn off Auto Upload Logs, that way it will not upload the logs but will still save it to the geocaching visits file in the Garmin Folder for you to upload to geocaching.com via the drafts option or any other method that you choose, I upload them to GSAK myself
