I've got s12 last week, it's pretty good clear looking, no troublesome, light weight, long life battery, and necessary function. Thank you for your helpful review.
I've just received the S12 yesterday for my birthday and this video was brilliant in it's explanation on how to use it, I am now looking forward to my round tomorrow.
I personally don't like the measure shot feature because it shows me exactly how far I hit the ball, hahaha. Great review. Your review convinced me to buy the s12. Very glad I did. Thanks!
I have just literally ordered an S12, I have never owned a watch for golf and I cannot wait to use it, the review was fantastic and looks very easy to use as well... Happy golfer here !!
I’ve got the S62, and I bought it thanks to your on-course review! Love the watch, I never take it off. I use it to track my runs, walks, workouts, everything.
Gabe, you are on fire! Long and short game looks dialed in! Cool features on that Garmin! I really like that it tells you how far the hazards are and distance to lay up. Also the fact that you can move the pin around for a more accurate distance is pretty sweet! Great review!
Thank You, I will get mine on monday by post, hopefully before teeing time. Now I will be more confident starting to use it after this lesson/review 👍🤗
I have the G12. Looks exactly the handheld not watch. Played once, love it....push buttons no instructions needed. It's a small unit, perfect for the pocket. 😉
I had an S1 for years, but the strap broke and was not replaceable, so I have binned it and am looking for a replacement. I currently have a smart watch that keeps track of steps, excercise, plays music, answers calls etc, so am thinking of either getting the shotscope V3 or the Garmin s12. Your video helped me as I did not think a £120 basic watch would keep score, record putts etc which is the same as the S62 my buddy showed me today . Great video, Thanks
Good review and great to see the genuine joy of scoring back-to-back birdies. I just replaced my old Garmin S2 which did the basics but was chunkier and also a lot clunkier in terms of scoring and lacked info about hazards. My only comment is that on a busy day and/or in comps, I'll probably not use things like shot measurement and scoring as it may be a bit time consuming? 20 secs say 3 times per hole is c. 20 mins per person per round. Added to others with golf watches and laser range-finders etc it's a lot! If I was a good enough player to hit the ball within 20 yards of my target every time - rather than into the general vicinity - maybe I'd take bit longer. I find these devices most useful, really, in terms of speeding up confident club selection. I used it for the first time yesterday and the hazards feature is very useful; it's good to know that, eg, water is easily flown over or is maybe on the limit in which case, be sensible (in my case anyway). Will watch a few more of these then probably subscribe. Thanks Gabe (weather not so sunny up here in the NW of England 😜).
Thanks. Yes, in practice it's actually much quicker than it seems. You'll likely be walking to and from cart hitting the buttons on the watch. It can be a very seemless experience once you're used to it.
I just ordered the new 2022 Version of the S12. My first Golf Watch. Hopefully it works with these CT Sensors of Garmin. My Approach G80 could not really handle them…
GREAT review! One part I'd like to know more about is the Garmin App that the watch can connect to. Is is that ALL app features are free (lifetime) except the green reading? Thanks very much!
Brilliant review mate, the question i want to ask is, is the a app for all your round ro be stored on? And do you click each club for each shot on the watch? Thank Two birdies🔥🔥
Gabe, Your video was the most informative of the many I watched. Thank you for that! I'll be buying an S12 a little closer to the start of golf season here in Michigan. If I get a pin placement sheet before I start my round, can I change the pin placement on the S12 for each of the 18 holes prior to starting the round instead of changing it one hole at a time during play?
Great to hear it’s helpful. Yes technically you can change any hole at any time. Though you may still want to see what side of the green it’s on when you’re on the hole for more accuracy.
Looks like a gr8 watch, I just ordered mine! One thing I don't understand. doesn't the watch know where you hit your tee shot and where you hit your second shot because of the movement of the swing? So can't it like that calculate the shot distance? I don't understand why you have to use the feature to see the shot distance when I thought you could already see all your shot distances afterwards?
Enjoyed your review. Looking to upgrade my garmin so hoping you review the new S42 soon, as is between that and the S62. As if it has the feature for automatically taking the yardage off uphill and downhill slopes on the S42, might buy that.
A Garmin at a reasonable price. WOW. So many choices. I settled for the Shot Scope and is very happy. I know you didn't seem to like the look, but I wanted more for the GPS and tracking. Was able to retire my Game Golf tags, and now I don't need to worry if I forgot to tag the club. My choice was based on your review along with a couple of RU-vidrs. Good job, and obviously the new clubs are working great. Did you continual the round and how low did you go?
Yes, I think they nailed the price point on this one. Glad you’re happy with yours. I did play 3 more holes, went par, bogey, par. Wish I could’ve finished.
Got a s12. Love it. But what is the reliability? Played with 2 friends. One had a s40 the other one a bushnell. We compared what the distances were with each device. None of them had the same distances. With differences up to 15 yards !! Even the 2 Garmin watches were not giving same distances. Therefore yes it’s nice and helpful but reliable ??
Well you are never going to get super accurate yardages from GPS devices due to GPS margin of errors. Just as an example, most modern smartphones have an error distance between 3-5 meters under good conditions. If you need super accurate distances and not just estimates then you need to go with a laser rangefinder.
Great review, when I enter my score it just asks for my number of shots, not number of puts of where my drive ended up. Do you know how to change this? Thanks
Did you ever try the B21 driver? Not that you needed the anti-fade attribute, but I would love to see you demo it just to show us what it does, distance, spin, etc. If possible.
Thanks. The S12 is pretty golf centric. You will get more of that once you step in to the S 42. It will track your steps, runs etc. The S62 will add a heart monitor also
LOL...the first thing I do when I get to the course is take off my watch. I hate wearing a watch while I play (if that's what you call what I do). I have always been a "passe it off" golfer....I JUST started using a range finder.
Well they are very similar, but I do personally like to have stat tracking capability. So that alone would prob make me want to upgrade. I also think it’s a bit nicer form factor and probably a bit faster all around as well. Is it a must upgrade? Prob not. Would it be nice? Definitely.
Great review! And congrats on the 2 birdies. Would you know the battery life for a full charge? Can you get 2 full rounds without charging? I have a Vivoactive 3 which can get me 1 round plus only. It’s a few years old though.
I have the S12 and like it a lot. I have a problem, in playing with friends and checking distances with their watches, I find my distanaces never sync up with their distances to front, middle andback . What have I done wrong in setup and/or how do I fix it?
HI ! I went through all your S12/S42/S62 review. And thanks for that ! But still not sure about which one is suitable for me. I am looking at tracking all my shots with club# used + distance for each + possibility to review afterward the full round/hole map with each shot traces. I am not relying on "AutoShot" type of feature for automatic shot detection, I would prefer to secure with manual entry for each shot : Start/Used club/ measure disctance/stop. Any guidance then for which product would do that for me ? If S12 (+ garmin golf app) is enough to do that, I will buy it now. Thanks in advance for your feedback.(PS : I already have the Garmin G80 for radar usage, and I didn't find a way to store all my shots distance/club data)
What do you do with the S12 if you are starting on another 9 holes (i.e. back nine first in a cross over) or playing a different 18 holes on a 27 hole course (i.e. south and east course vs east and west course)?
Hi, literally just subscribed as enjoyed your review very much. I'm seriously intending in purchasing this watch, I've never had a GPS watch before, do you happen to know if the updates are free at all Looking forward a your reply Many thanks, Mauri
What do you guys think about the S12 vs the ShotScope V3? They are about the same price here but the S12 seems to have more features with layup and dogleg information. But the Shotscope does have the carry to and over hazards. Whats your opinion on these 2 watches?
On this watch after each hole can I turn off all the questions it asked like how many putts did I do did I hit the fairway or miss left/right? Would love to know if I can turn that off because Am after a watch just like this without doing that after every hole
Does it allow you to select red tees (ladies in UK)? And, can you clip it to your bag and use it completely passively, read-only, or do you have to click "Next hole" every time you move to the next tee? (Thanks in advance for any answers from S12 owners.)
An update: I see from the online manual that the user can set their gender, so I guess the developers have catered for ladies tees. My 2nd question doesn't get answered in the online manual, but surely it knows when you've moved on?
I did buy it and pleased to say it works fine in sort-of-passive mode. And yes, gender can be specified in setup options, which then defaults to red tee pars for females from then on. Great!. Only quibbles are: it doesn't default to the course you're physically at, the only course for 5 miles, and, after you switch on in the car park (near the 18th green) it thinks you're on the 18th hole and doesn't then recognise when you've moved to the 1st tee. A bit of a faff to remember how to force it to move to the 1st. Hope Garmin read this! Charge lasts well.
@@LetsPlayThru Perfect, have you seen the other colours in person? The white looks sick at the video, but marine looks pretty cool aswell. Can’t decide 😂
@@LetsPlayThru I just ordered one diretcly after seeing this video. One more question, when I get onto my course, I just search with GPS out there or do I need to do something before at home? :)
