Did you have any problems with it not coming on when new?

What I recommend you to try is to charge the device before using it. Plug it until it says it's fully charged and try again. I should work after that. Don't forget it only starts reading when it's in the water. Hope this helps

You mentioned one important item that I had not thought of--the required minimum line test. You said that the Garmin unit requires at least a 20lb test line, which I never use. I fish small ponds in Florida and use lightweight equipment. I will now always check out the line requirement before making a purchase. Very helpful. Good luck with your channel. Bob

Thanks Bob!! Yeahh the last thing we'd wanna do is go swimming for it if it snaps off the line 😅 Goodluck the next time you head out!

A lot of it is based off of what lures/tackle you’re sending out. With super light tackle using 2-4lb line is recommended. You can catch 100 pound fish on 2 pound tackle it would just require some skill. When you’re throwing big bass lures I like to use 6-10 pound braid it seems to work the best with my medium heavy rod
@GIOUTDOORS
@GIOUTDOORS 5 месяцев назад
For sure but the rod that we use to cast the sonar isn't the same as the rod we fish with. The rod with the sonar we prefer to have stronger line and protect our investment just incase. Especially alot of the areas we fish have current. If the line breaks say bye bye to that sonar 😅

You're right man it's not the same rod you got to use a different rod. We fish for salmon and I just have an old heavy duty tuna rod look for few bucks Will put 50 lb braid on it more than enough

It's definitely easier to have it setup on another rod so you can quickly cast nearby. You will love this sonar, it's a really great tool to find little honey holes. Goodluck

The only downside is unless the water is deep, the actual scanned cone, is very small
@GIOUTDOORS
@GIOUTDOORS 6 месяцев назад
It's possible but so far we've used it mostly to find structure, and depth and it worked super well for that.
@poepflater
@poepflater 6 месяцев назад
ok, yeah, that certainly is useful. I know there is a little submarine camera that you can control too. that would be pretty neat if they could combine the functions @@GIOUTDOORS

Hey how do you determine how far away the fish are? Like how do you know where to cast? If you cast the sonar 20ft in front of you how do you know how far out to cast?
@GIOUTDOORS
@GIOUTDOORS 4 месяца назад
Hey, after using it for quite a while the best thing to do is to cast it out a couple of times and find areas you find structure. I don't rely on only the fish icons. Finding structure you'll definitely find the fish. Also it depends on if there's alot of current or not so you adjust to the situation. But in general you cast close to where you saw good structure or fish and keep trying. If you are fishing with bait even if you are a couple feet away the fish will come in because of the smell. To answer your question on how far out to cast that's what's cool about this sonar, you just cast a repeat and you'll know everything about the body of water your fishing. You'll be surprised sometimes it's deeper closer to shore than it is further out. So use this sonar as a tool to find the deeper pockets and structure and your success will drastically increase. Hope this helps

I’m wondering how this would work if it was just tied off a kayak a foot or two
@GIOUTDOORS
@GIOUTDOORS 6 месяцев назад
Hey, it sure would. It comes with that braided line to throw off a kayak, canoe or boat. You'll be surprised how well it works. It's definitely a gamechanger for finding structure on the bottom.

I heard or read it's not any good if the water flow is greater than 5 mph or dragging it along a kayak is that true?
@GIOUTDOORS
@GIOUTDOORS 14 дней назад
So far every time we've tried it, it worked really well. I think if it was really windy and choppy waters maybe it wouldn't work as well but most of the time it's a great tool to have. We haven't trolled with it yet but I don't see a problem with that. Especially with a kayak.. When we reel it in, it keeps working so it should work without problems.
