Problem is he’s stuck in between a rock and a hard place knowing that Garrett could still have him dominated and on this board texture Han (who can have anything) is very likely to have connected with it… Which means he’s just lighting money on fire. I think Andy played the hand perfectly…Garrett just stepped up and made a big play and put Andy in a very bad spot where he’s just almost never good, facing a raise + 3bet..thus has no choice but to fold.

I think he should have checked the turn. He lost an additional $25k, in effect to find out where he was. If he doesn’t bet, does Han jam? I don’t think so - so would have allowed him to re-evaluate should Han have bet, or even better seen a free river should Han have checked. River was a brick so would have been an easier decision at this point.

You make a valid point that when you have a medium strength hand it’s more +EV to have a short enough stack to just get it in. However it’s also true that when you have the nuts it’s more +EV to be as deep as possible to win the most possible money. So it’s not as simple as to just say a shorter stack I’d better.

@@riffin632 The nuts are equally distributed between the 2 deepstacked players (average situation, same playing strength), so "the possibility to win more money" is not a particular advantage for a deepstacked player (i.e. when one of them has the nuts and wins a lot of money, the other one will lose the same amount of money - and this situation "evens out").

It was Garrett targeting Andy’s exact range of overpairs and wanting to put him in a miserable spot where he just can’t reasonably call unless he’s nutted given the action. Allowing Garrett to flip against a wild player who can have plenty of hands that he’s beating or doing well against.

@@lakerfan1855 if Garrett takes the equity and calls, the worse thing that could happen to him is getting squeezed. It would cause him to play for stacks or being pushed out of equity. There was a small chance that he's ahead and a small chance that he's getting jammed on. Both cancel each other out. He knew that he has to raise or fold. Both were viable options. P. S. Most players would just call, get squeezed and tell stories about the fish that squeezed them and how it was a mistake since they have boats in their range. They would then explain how the only reason they lose is because the other players are so bad

Yes and no. 1. Mistake is because he checked two consecutive streets, now coming back raising to rep AA/KK?? No way! That's what Andy failed to see (that's why he folded). 2. Good play: After flop checked through, he knew: Andy has some middle pair (below AA/KK) or drawing hand (AK, AQs, AJs...), so forcing him out is an option with x/rr turn. Han bets out of desperation as a second 4bet caller and checked-flop-behind player. So: no worry about Han. Now, after that he can surely count on 15 outs (30% equity) to a river winning hand. His 80% pot size call is a good pot-odds call. If a hand is profitable to call then it is even better to raise! So, his $106k risk into 133K pot is 80%! The hand just did not happen to be. Otherwise that was a good play. (Forced a better hand to fold). . For Andy that was either shove or fold. Shoving does not guaranty success as he cannot know if Garret improves on river...I still believe, if Andy shoved, Garret would've folded. Too much risk on a speculative drawing hand. . The funniest thing is that a hand that had no business in that hand - WON THE POT!!?? 😹

This isn’t your local 2-5 game where everybody is playing face up. Keep in mind there are hundreds of thousands at stake here… Probably not the best idea to jam into a turn 3 bet with one guy already all in when you’re not even close to the nuts and are most likely not going to improve.

@Danilo Croce I am not saying that he's raising a hand like KQ suited for value preflop. I am saying that it would be ones of his bluffs preflop. Garrett is a good enough player that he's balanced preflop. He doesn't have value 100% of the time when he raises here. His bluffs here should be suited cards. KQ suited is a much better hand to turn into a bluff than a hand like KQ off or pocket 7s. It will have far more flops where he can keep barreling. KQ also has the advantage of blocking pockets kings, pockets queens, AK, and AQ - a lot of the hands that are at the top of the other guy's ranges.

If you're never bluffing when you 4 bet from the small blind, that's your style. But that's not how Garrett or the professional players play.

@Danilo Croce Middling pairs make horrible hands to bluff with preflop for two big reasons. Hands like A4 suited or KQ suited have blockers to the top of the opponents range - they block hands like AA, KK, QQ, AK, AQ. On the other hand, middling pairs don't block any of the opponents' premium hands, but they do block the bottom of the opponents range. Hands like A4 suited or KQ suited can keep betting on far more flops - they can have straight draws, flush draws, and they are more likely to hit trips or two pair. On the other hand, a pocket pair can't really keep betting on a flop unless it hits a set or manages to get a straight draw with just one card from its hand. It can't really bet a flush draw - it's not a high enough card to bet a flush draw where you'd make a flush with four cards on the board and one from your hand. That's why I don't see people turning pocket pairs into bluffs preflop. I usually see people turning suited aces or suited connectors into bluffs. I could see a very good argument that A4 suited is a better bluffing hand than KQ suited here, but I don't think that pocket pairs make good bluffs preflop here. If Garrett is using weak suited aces instead of suited broadway cards for his bluffs here, the Queen of diamonds blocker isn't as important. If he's using pocket pairs for his bluffs here, then AK suited and AQ suited are basically the only flush draws he can have here. But I think Garrett has suited connectors or suited aces as 4 bet bluffs preflop, rather than pocket pairs.

I do. Garrett is targeting Andy’s exact range TT - QQ. He knows a 3bet looks extremely strong here (regardless of the sizing) and is happy to push him out and flip with Han who can have plenty of hands Garrett is still beating or at the least flipping against..
