Garry Kasparov
The youngest world chess champion in history at 22 in 1985, Kasparov remained the top-rated player in the world for 20 years, until his retirement in 2005. He then became a leader of the Russian pro-democracy movement against Vladimir Putin and is currently the chairman of the NY-based Human Rights Foundation. The Kasparov Chess Foundation promotes chess in education around the world with centers in the US, Europe, and Africa with more soon to come. Kasparov speaks and writes frequently on technology, decision-making, and risk. His book, "How Life Imitates Chess," has been published in more than 20 languages.

Almost all great chess players have an extraordinary memory. Contrary to what many people think, memory in chess is key.

A very bizarre documentary of one of the chess legends. The weird editing, prolonged shots, time at the top of the screen, different languages, and Gary's general demeanour all combine together into a haze of random scenes and interviews from simul to beach workouts. The scene with the art lady describes the film as a whole - unsettling. I was caught off-guard by the ending and the whole previous hour felt like a dream. That's my 2 cents at least. I don't usually comment but the video was so unique that I couldn't help myself.

@@kevinmurphy3307 Hey, that's great to hear, Kevin; the fight, being the victor. Our having this area in common is cool, too- as well as music... I'm just receiving my 1st dosage of Folfox, the strange brew that'll fight any remnants of the larger-than- a-grapefruit-mass I had in my guts. Unfortunately, a psilocybin mushroom-based tea is not part of their treatment plan....😎 I also love music, but not so much that was made after, say, the mid-90s... When Phish was still relevant ?... I consider The Black Crowes to be the last great, true rock 'n' roll band, really... My tastes in music tend toward prog rock, jazz & classical. The Beatles, Stones, KinKs, The Who, The Nice, Yes, Genesis, Zappa, King Crimson, ELP, Argent....see the English thread through all of 'em ? 😎 I run in cycles with music. I go strong at one or two given bands; almost like rediscovering them, (not that I'd ever forget any of it...) at random in an intense fashion. I'm running out of box sets to purchase ?!! I dig the odd time signatures, several movements within a given song....that kind of vein. Essentially, nothing that is danceable, lol. I'm truly happy to have had this opportunity to chat it up with you ( btw, thumbnail pic is of Amber, my sweetheart of a daughter. She's cute- I'm sorry if I've disappointed you. I'm a 50 y/o dude- but HANDSOME !!) So, the Fischer DVD isn't lost on you, huh ? Is there anything else out there that is comparable that you're aware of ? Meaning, chess in general... Did you see Pawn Sacrifice ? My father loved chess & taught it to me. I actually became better than him, somewhat. But, we were still basically patzers, never having entered any sort of competition. But the love of the game is all that matters in the end, and the Fischers, Kasparovs, Carlsens, Karpovs, ect. are just something that the rest of us just get to marvel at and behold. Heck, my skill level has me marvelling at the guys who blitz in Washington Square Park......😎 Good to talk with you, brother !! Stay in touch if you'd like, for whatever the reason, ok ?

Hinduism and Taoism, the Kung Fu monks practice of Chi Gung was understood all over the East and middle east ..Christ accomplished same miracles by virtue of this ancient science. When you begin to practice you will have your mind blown and your heart will be at peace because "Grace " enters every sincere devotees life once that spiritual contract is made and at THAT point you will KNOW and you will know that you know and no one or nothing will ever take that away from you once you arrive there. Not likely. If the games were heavy theory then he most likely remembers the games to a certain point and the critical tactical points but doesn't remember the entire game. Dates are fairly easy so that's also possible. you are really ignorant about the incredible memory of the world chess champion, even the past world chess champion. They will not become world chess champion if their memory is just like an ordinary. Chess training need a powerful memory to remember all the moves or games during the analysis. Bobby Fischer remember all the games he played in a blitz tournament and recited all the thousand moves while on dinner.

A corrupt chessfederation which probably made Kasparov leave them and found PCA. It could also mean that Short was a junior worldchampion once. It probably can be investigated. Excellent description. The isolation endured by many top achievers and intelligent people compounds the problem. But I've also thought for some time that the inclination to strategic thinking, of viewing everything in terms of tactics, can leave a great chess player mentally unbalanced. Anyone who spends 18 hours a day focused on just one thing like chess is already pushing themselves to the limit. But if they begin to view everyday life as a chess problem to be solved, this is very damaging. People like Fischer seemed to have Aspergers, and was already probably predisposed to schizophrenia. Give him super intellectual abilities and world fame and...well, we know what happens then.

Some might consider the total dedication to the game as a kind of an insanity.

Beyond a certain level, focused genius in one discipline is usually attended by notable deficiencies in most others. Kasparov has the benefit of his deficiencies being in benign aspects of life. He is no lunatic, merely eccentric. And he has accomplished much which benefits mankind.

Garry Kasparov was world champion when I first learned the game of chess. I was 14 years old when I got introduced to the game. I've been playing for close to 30 years now, still know my chances of ever winning against Garry Kasparov is None. It would be equivalent to a white belt fighting an 8th degree black belt

I have no doubts about Harry's abilities. But I see how this film was made in a hurry. Short - was never a world champion, but here he is listed as such. There were only 12 world champions before Kasparov - how can you not find out who they are before writing something like that?

Hello. Well that depends how you define "decline". He kept his rating like always...about ~ 2840-50....like many years before. Carlsen is THE ONE have surpassed him at rating....and I know rating is not all.....also I guess you know rating suffer from "inflation"....and still with that Aronian can't get a higher rating.... Another point of view..Carlsen (who is clearly the best) have been trained by....precissely Kasparov. That don't mean of course he couldn't beat Kasparov, but not so "destroy"
