Its so funny how immediately the devs abandoned the idea that this is supposed to be a kindergarten, now its basically an underground kingdom/obstacle course park. One possible outcome I believe in is that we're gonna get to the end of this The Queen's Scepter plot by BanBan 8 and the games will be like "You did it you saved Undertale" and that's the end of the Garten of Banban series and the audience will be scratching their heads like "wait what about the missing kids"
nah its more like being in middleschool thinking the taks test or whatever is the most important thing, trying your absolute hardest, stressing about what you made for like 2 days after and then getting a 70 and finding out it has no actual bearing on your future whatsoever

I'd hate to give the Euphoric Brothers any amount of kudos, but man those handmade setpiece animations are really funny 1:00:34 1:05:07 1:46:02 2:36:50 One of the things that really struck me about Poppy Playtime were the incredible character animations and BanBan's attempt at replicating those are the only things that are in anyway endearing. When I was watching this stream live I clipped nearly ever one of them, they look like a literal interpretation of what a kid playing with dolls would look like. And honestly if more of the mascot interactions were like that, even by just making the idle and walk cycles from-scratch rather than use premade ones, than I could see a version of this game where I would be a really passionate defender instead of a vocal hater. But as it stands it's very clear that these few unique animations are here out of pure necessity, and if they could do these set pieces easier with a kitbash of store assets or even by not showing them at all; they would.

the "NOOOO!!! I'LL SAVE YOU!!!!" line was delivered really well, and really ices the cake on that first scene. Aside from that, I always assumed this game was kind of mocking the "horror for kids" trend, specifically Poppy's playtime, what with the whole 'the next short sequel is literally already being developed before anyone has even played the prior one', seeing as they go ahead and hit you with a fUCKING advertising-banner for the next one, at the end of each game. like it's not even a coy "stay tuned......" or "to be continued....." that might imply some larger/more complex sequel in the works. nope it literally already has a steam listing. in other words i'm viewing this game as a satire.

i know this word is over used at this point, but these feel like liminal space games, but not by any positive metric. they feel like games i half remember playing once, fifteen or more years ago. memories half lost to time and all i remember are the empty places and vague mascot designs. this is not a good thing, nor am i intending it as a compliment, these devs can sucka my balls.
Some of the conversations can be funny and if they didn't pad their game It'd probably be better and more entertaining for the fan base they're going for
I think the target for these games is gaming youtubers with young audiences (or they just fucked up their game so much that the demographic is children with nasa supercomputers)

i fully believe garten of banban was meant to be some sort of parody of poppy's playtime. The advertisement banner for the next game on the main menu, and then immediately at the end of the game- didn't poppy's like ACTUALLY do exactly that? And I think the breakneck speed with which the games come out is kind of taking the piss out of the kickstarter drama with poppy.(i think it was kickstarter? maybe some other crowdfunding site???). Although I have to wonder if it's STILL a joke. Like, now it seems kind of like. A performance art piece or something. Since it went viral and now it has actual fans somehow, the devs probably feel like they have to keep pushing the joke. Every game seems to have made the lore IMPOSSIBLY more convoluted, it feels like they are BEGGING people not to take it seriously.

The more I think about it the more I think I like these games... They feel like some sort of meta-art to me. Maybe this is just my own weird sense of humor but there's something about the conspicuous intentionality of the low quality (the fucking brushmarks on the character models...), the occasional genuinely funny humor including self-referential jokes poking fun at the absurdity of this whole series (and by extension other games of its ilk), silly little gameplay moments that toy with your expectations, and just the overall stilted awkwardness of everything that someone else likened to a kid playing with toys, that all just loops around to being really funny and charming IMO. I mean, is this ultimately cashing in on the mascot horror trend by churning out large quantities of short "low effort" games with shallow gameplay and nonsensical stories that purport to have deeper lore and themes than they actually do for the sake of capturing the attention of gaming content creators and the children who watch them? Sure. But I don't think it's fair to say it's JUST that, you know? This really feels like a bunch of people fucking around for fun to make something kind of stupid, and maybe that's okay? Maybe making bad and stupid art is important, too.
you completely get it and personally id feel this way regardless of whether it was intentional. there are some types of art you cant make without it being bad and i love banban for its bizarre nature regardless of whether it was deliberately cultivated
Managed to catch the last hour of the stream and really not having context for anything happening in this joke of a game that cost 13 dollars was pretty incredible
